The Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swim 🌍🏊‍♂️

This had to be part of my 2025 season.

The jump in, the shift from salty water into the “cold” current, swimming down the strait past historic landmarks… I loved every bit of it 😌And “cold” is generous — it felt more like a cool breeze.

First international swim in the books; and I’m only just getting started.

Finally, water back down to 15°c. FRESH 🧊

Some one-arm freestyle (with fins) practicing:
• A cleaner catch and pull
• Left-right imbalances
• Body rotation and core engagement
• Balance and alignment
• Connected stroke, unleashing a stronger, powered up, pull.

And one-arm camera work — because the cameraman never dies. 🎥

A ‘mini Channel’ experience — back in July in Torbay.

The straight-line course was meant to be c4.25 miles, but the tides had other ideas and drifted us out a little further (must get stronger 😬).

Greatly organised by the BLDSA, a lovely team with my kayaker timing and sorting my feeds.

What Strava doesn’t show:
how bumpy the waves were, or just how many jellyfish there were.🪼

Had an absolute blast — thoroughly enjoyed the ride — and now onto more sea swimming next year! 🌊

Being at sea - my mind’s favourite place to wander 🌊🌊

Throwback to Trinco — where hundreds of dolphins can gather in super pods, and was lucky enough to encounter some pilot whales (alongside some seriously wild open water).

After that first jump — never felt more alive.

Still, beautiful and scary at the same time.

Come to the cold side. But you must sacrifice:

Warmth — you give up the easy baseline your body prefers.
Breath control — the cold takes your breath first; you earn it back.
Hesitation — stepping in means choosing discomfort over avoidance.
Predictability — cold water removes certainty; you adapt in real time.
