The Florists’ Table
@jamjar_flowers & @nymphaea.flora

Flowers have always played a role in bringing people together, but the best tablescapes for events don’t compete with the conversation, they spark it.

Intentional design is often found in thoughtful restraint. Limiting a palette to just a few carefully chosen ingredients allows each flower to express its own character, while encouraging us to look more closely at familiar varieties. Increasingly, pansies have emerged as a contemporary floral ingredient, valued for their delicate structure, vibrant colour and unexpected presence within modern floral design.

For The Florists’ Table, Talena and Ebony centred their design around just two seasonal flowers, sweet peas and pansies. Using just these two ingredients, the design celebrated the movement, colour and individuality of each stem. Sweet peas tumbled the length of the table, their tendrils looping and intertwining in what the designers described as a conversation between the flowers. Long-stemmed pansies punctuated the arrangement with quiet moments of colour and personality. Kept intentionally open, the installation allowed guests to look through the flowers rather than around them, ensuring that as the flowers appeared to converse across the table, so too could the people gathered around it.

Introducing our next designer @nymphaea.flora

‘Nymphaea started as a passion project in the suburbs of Brisbane that quickly turned into wanting to know all the nooks and crannies of the floral industry. From working in my own home studio to freelancing and wholesale to retail spaces I eventually found myself learning to grow flowers in Scotland. My style is ever evolving and changing. These days my work is more of a floral diary and is less about creating for people. i enjoy following the curiosities of what’s in season in my little area of Edinburgh.’

FLOWER DIARIES | MAY
Spring is nearly over and I am LOVING the heat but the flowers definitely ARE NOT. The lilac has been and gone, clematis not looking so hot and the iris’s, well mostly they been wind damaged more than anything. After wondering what the hell I would use because all of the ingredients I did want to use weren’t available anymore I simply took my scissors and went for a stroll. Honestly didn’t find much but honestly didn’t look very hard and honestly still found some beautiful treasures. Garden roses and wild carrot! Here’s to *hopefully* a sunny, foxglove, hydrangea, cornflower filled beautiful June🤌🏻 by @nymphaea.flora

Flower diaries ~ April 2025
In the Tupelo studio after a long day of wedding prep I decided to make for the fun of it. All ingredients foraged from the studio grounds. I feel grateful that I get to work on such a beautiful site with Natasha. We’ve had some conversations about allowing things to change, going in with a vague idea but allowing things to move and flow as they please. Flowers take the lead.

This was at the beginning of April and the flowers growing around my area have already changed so much since then. magnolia browning, camilla leaves falling, narcissus all dried up. Such delicate fleeting materials that bring so much beauty and inspiration to the world. Flowers always taking the lead. by @nymphaea.flora

Flower diaries March 2025
To be open and honest, it’s felt hard and tiring in March to create just for the sake of it. Ideas felt fleeting and my body felt tired. Maybe it’s still waking up from winter. Nonetheless I made time and I pulled through this month. I am doing my best to commit to my flower diaries! Walking to work I found myself looking at the ground a lot, and noticing small flowers growing through the cracks. Mainly miscari and a special snakes head filitary (my fave!) and in past months snowdrops did to. It feels really special seeing all the bulbs pop up in the most random places. I moved into my current flat nearly six months ago and I really enjoy seeing things like tulips, hyacinth and narcissus popping up in my garden. Here’s to warm weather and finally, seeing signs of life again. by @nymphaea.flora

I left it until the last day of February to even think about this month’s flower diaries. Crocus flowers are out in full bloom but they felt too delicate to create anything with. I hadn’t quite found any blossom I was able to forage. I wanted to avoid using snowdrops again as well. I spent the afternoon wandering around looking for inspiration and foraging around my neighbourhood. I wasn’t particularly keen on using Daffodils but they are in abundance everywhere so I challenged myself a bit. I often think they look best arranged alone. I saw this Corylus Avellan (Common Hazel) and knew I had to take a few cuttings of it.

This winter I’ve been finding it quite hard to be creative. It can be nice to make with no real direction or plan. Once I picked these few ingredients and started making things definitely started to flow and come together. Honestly, I don’t love this creation but sometimes it’s better just to make for the sake of it <3 by @nymphaea.flora
