Happy people, vinyl, and good vibes. Beat Excavation brought together not just DJs, but music lovers from all walks of life on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the Twin Cities. Already looking forward to the 3rd edition. Special shoutout to @o_dsounds and everyone who participated, hauled in record crates, shared music, stories, and energy, and helped make the day what it was. FOR THE RECORD! With great excitement, Beat Excavation welcomes visual artist, DJ, educator and organizer, Mr. Neighborhood. He will be joining us as a featured DJ. Deeply connected to the Twin Cities, Chicago and Korea as a musician and youth advocate, Mr. Neighborhood brings a plethora of experiences and a belief in supporting systems that bring people together. On the 1s and 2s, he does that and then some. Mr. Neighborhood continues to create and release music and can be seen spinning 12-inch LPs or 45s in town at your favorite cocktail and wine bar. FOR THE LOVE! The good folks of Beat Excavation are excited to announce that @taliaknight will be a featured DJ at Beat Excavation. TaliaKnight is a beatmaker, DJ, graphic designer and illustrator from Chile. Going back and forth between Chile and Minneapolis throughout her life, she has shared her Latin American culture through music around the Twin Cities. Her love and knowledge of music extends to many different genres and cultures, especially hip-hop and electronic, which are the main influences for her personal production work. FOR THE CREATIVES! Beat Excavation is proud to share that the award-winning filmmaker and social practice artist, D.A. Bullock, will be blessing us as a featured DJ at Beat Excavation. A McKnight Media Artist Fellow, Bush Foundation Fellowship recipient, and founder of Bully Creative Shop, D.A. is the people’s champion when it comes to storytelling and documenting the truth. His films have been featured at national and international festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival. He was the winner of Best Feature Film at Urbanworld Film Festival in New York. Recently, D.A. shared with the Beat Excavation crew, "I'm geeked to spin some Purple Snow, unearthed music from the Minneapolis Sound released by Numero Group Records in Chicago!" Don’t miss D.A. FOR THE CULTURE! Beat Excavation gladly welcomes one of the freshest and flyest culture bearers in Hip-Hop, @djtodda. He will be joining us as a featured DJ on the tables with various textures and taste. Todda is a collector of all things dope. His stage moniker derives from his Cambodian name which is Sothara. “In Khmer culture we usually say the ending of the name which is Thara. And in the Khmer tongue it is pronounced ta-dah, which I spell it Todda for the English version. I was a B-boy originally and it was like I was pulling out a magic trick like ‘taa dahh’ at the end.” Todda also let the good folks of Beat Excavation know: “My favorite vinyl find would be The OG 45 of The Jackson Sisters’ “I Believe in Miracles” and I’m excited to play some exclusive vinyl joints that are not available for streaming.” Come through and witness Todda put on for the city with a magical set! 📅 August 30th 📍 ZOMA House Additional Selections by: Mr. Neighborhood @mischark TaliaKnight @taliaknight I-Self Devine @iselfdevine D.A. FOR THE PEOPLE! It is with great honor to share that Chaka Mkali aka @iselfdevine will be joining us as a featured DJ at Beat Excavation! A Bush Foundation fellowship recipient and Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice fellow, I Self Devine is an emcee, father, community organizer, curator, strategist, racial justice trainer, graffiti artist, producer, and muralist. He’s also a thoro record collector and music connoisseur —> @dogon.mega.temple! Chaka recently told us, “I’ve been going through my collection for a few weeks looking for solid grooves to share. Nothing too obscure or far out as of yet. I’ll save that for later. I’ll be playing all 45’s.
