Have you ever heard of Andorra? It’s tiny country between Spain and France, known for skiing, biking and duty free shopping.

My summer explorations led me here for hiking, but I also ended up driving winding roads through the mountains, climbing via ferratas, eating the largest plate of escargot I’ve ever seen, and chasing sunsets.

I always get excited about traveling to obscure places and this little gem is worth a visit if you’re ever nearby! taken in Andorra by @oakesadventures

There’s something special about visiting places few travelers have been to.

Madagascar is one of these places. From dramatic changes in the landscape, to the unique wildlife, flora and fauna, we never knew what was coming next.

We rode in a rickety old cart pulled by a zebu, found an abundance of shells along the beach, made @tashauniverse dream of seeing lemurs in the wild come true and so much more! taken in Madagascar by @oakesadventures

Imagine you’re on a sailboat in Southern British Columbia, and the next thing you know, you’re surrounded by turquoise water that makes you feel like you’re in a tropical paradise.

This is the herring spawn, a natural phenomenon that occurs every spring as millions of herring migrate to shallow coastal waters to release eggs and milt (sperm). The water turns a milky turquoise colour and it attracts massive amounts of wildlife looking for a feast.

It’s an event that connects everything — wildlife, local communities and photographers alike. I joined a photography tour hoping to see the spawn. We were lucky enough to experience amazing conditions and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Herring are crucial to the ecosystem, and overfishing has caused their populations to crash. This is one of the few areas that still allows commercial fishing and the population is still at risk. Seeing how much depends on one small fish makes you realize how important it is to protect what’s left, so the species can recover.

Thanks for an incredible experience, hours on the water, delicious food and a tour that was so much more than just photography.

Once upon a time in Mauritius…

Came for the underwater waterfall, stayed to discovery the island had so much more to offer.

I think about this trip often— a long awaited international adventure with @tashauniverse ✨ taken in Mauritius by @oakesadventures

I found myself amongst giants, with new surprises unveiling themselves at every turn!

Humbled by the altitude, captivated by the colours of the mountains and everyday Andean life.

Here are some of my favourite photos from the Ausangate Trek — a place that will stay with me long after I’ve left.

Special shout out to the horses who helped carry our food and extra gear, and the horseman in photo 5 who took care of them. This trek wouldn’t have been possible without them and the rest of the @abexpeditions team! taken in Peru by @oakesadventures

Peru really does have it all and an immaculate colour palette to go with it. It’s crazy the variety of different landscapes I got to experience and even better when unexpected colours appear in nature!

It was wild and windy evening in Paracas. We walked along the coast with nothing but the cliffs, the ocean and that tiny van (yes, the one you can barely see) waiting to take us back down a bumpy road through a landscape that felt like mars.

This was near the end of my trip and just when I thought I’d seen it all, Peru impressed me once again. taken in Paracas National Reserve by @oakesadventures

How special it is to walk through places you once dreamed of!

I bought my first pair of hiking boots in 2018 in preparation for a multi day trek after being in severely underprepared for some hikes in the past. I didn’t know then the places hiking would take me, but I continue to be enthralled by mountains, glaciers, and expansive landscapes.

The world keeps getting bigger in all the best ways. I wonder where I’ll end up next! taken in Peru by @oakesadventures

A few of my favourite captures from the city I call home.

It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with Vancouver, the access to nature is unmatched. It may be gloomy right now, but when it hits, it HITS! taken in Vancouver, British Columbia by @oakesadventures

What a special experience it was to get Rainbow Mountain all to ourselves!

On day 3 of a 6 day trek, our campsite was a couple kilometers away from Rainbow Mountain. Once we got settled, we decided to hike up which took about 45 minutes. At this point, other tourists had left for the day, even the locals vendors that sell food and have alpacas for people to take photos with were gone.

Trekking at a high altitude is challenging, but moments like this made it all worth it! taken in Rainbow Mountain Peru by @oakesadventures
