How did you end up doing what you do? 💬

Oakland Technical High School (@othsconnections) 11th graders want to hear the real answer. From October 21 to November 16, they're interviewing volunteer professionals one-on-one to learn about different careers and the paths people took to get there.

You don't need a perfect story. Students learn as much from the detours as from the plan.

🕐 Shifts are 45 min–1 hr
🗣 Each interview is 15–20 min, 1-on-1

More than 700 Indigenous students are part of OUSD.

That number is an important reminder: Indigenous Peoples’ Day is deeply connected to Oakland and to students learning in its schools today.

Oakland schools stand on Ohlone territory. Indigenous cultures, histories, and communities are living parts of Oakland’s present—not only its past.

And one demographic category cannot capture every student’s identity. Many Oakland students have Indigenous roots alongside Latino, African American, or multiracial identities.

Swipe to learn more, then save and share this post to help recognize the Indigenous students and communities who are part of Oakland today!

Today, your DAF can support Oakland students. 🧡

It’s DAF Day—a nationwide day of giving through donor-advised funds. If you have a DAF, you can give to the Oakland Public Education Fund today and help bring more opportunities to Oakland schools.

Today is also the fall deadline to participate in #HalfMyDAF. Help make the Oakland Public Education Fund eligible for a matching grant by committing to grant at least half of your DAF this year. Then submit your grant confirmation to #HalfMyDAF by the end of today.

🔗 Find giving instructions at the link in our bio. Don’t have a DAF? Sharing this post can help it reach someone who does.

What do volunteers make possible for teachers? 🍎💛

On World Teachers’ Day, we’re sharing reflections from Oakland educators about what it means when community members show up to help.

Every organized classroom, refreshed school space, shared story, and extra set of hands gives teachers more support as they create welcoming places for students to learn and grow.

Swipe to hear directly from Oakland teachers. Then tag an educator you’re grateful for—or visit the link in our bio to find a way to volunteer.

One week until DAF Day! 🧡

If you have a donor-advised fund, October 8 is a chance to use it to support Oakland students and educators.

It takes three steps: sign in to your DAF account, find the Oakland Public Education Fund or #43-2014630, and recommend an amount. Your generosity helps create more opportunities in Oakland schools.

And if you commit to granting at least half of your DAF this year, your gift will make OPEF eligible for a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from #HalfMyDAF. Just make sure you submit your grant confirmation to #HalfMyDAF by October 8.

🔗 Find giving information at the link in our bio. Save this post as your reminder for next Thursday—and share it with someone who has a DAF. @dafdayofficial

October 8 is DAF Day! 🧡

Have a donor-advised fund? On DAF Day you can use your DAF to give to the Oakland Public Education Fund and help us create opportunities for Oakland students and educators.

New to DAFs? Think of a DAF as an account set aside for charitable giving. DAF Day brings people across the country together to use those funds for causes they care about.

But there's more! Through #HalfMyDAF, donors who commit to granting at least half of their DAF can help make nonprofits like the Oakland Public Education Fund eligible for a matching grant.

📅 Save the date: Thursday, October 8
🔗 Learn how to give at the link in our bio.

What if teachers had more opportunities to share responsibility, learn from one another, and work together to meet student needs?

Thrive and Teach For America Bay Area (@tfabayarea) are partnering with schools to help teacher teams design and implement collaborative teaching models that move away from isolation and toward shared ownership.

The yearlong partnership combines individualized coaching, hands-on implementation support, and opportunities to learn alongside other Bay Area schools.

The goal: help teams better meet students’ academic needs, strengthen collaboration, improve student engagement, and make teaching more sustainable and fulfilling.

Interested in bringing this opportunity to your school?
