This was a challenging project, but the result made every effort worthwhile. Our client envisioned a colourful mosaic dial in cloisonné enamel, creating a striking contrast with the deep grey tones of the tantalum case. In this intricate craft, fine metal wires are shaped and positioned by hand to form tiny compartments, each carefully filled with coloured enamel. Successive layers and repeated firings in a kiln gradually bring the colours to life, building depth and richness. Every stage demands exceptional precision, patience and control—from shaping each wire to managing how the enamels respond to heat. Bringing so many colours together within the small canvas of a watch dial makes the work especially demanding, and the finished piece all the more rewarding. taken in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam by @oan.gio

Oan.Gio Yellow Tremblage on Leacus strap

A story with color and texture. I had the honor to work with @iamnghia on the overall design of this custom watch. To frame the yellow tremblage, we paired it with an engraved chapter ring. Yellow and silver, matte and polished, irregular and patterned hand engraving.

I’m incredibly happy to finally share my OAN.GIO Piece Unique NAGA Cloisonné Enamel.

I’ve always had a deep respect for NAGA. Growing up in Southeast Asia, it’s something I’ve encountered throughout my life, in temples, stories, art and culture and religions. There is something about NAGA that has always fascinated me. I feel NAGA is powerful, mysterious, protective, and deeply connected to the traditions of this region and deeply connected to my my heart.

So when I had the opportunity to create a piece unique watch with @oan.gio I felt it needed to be inspired by NAGA, I wanted it to be more than just a beautiful image on a dial. I wanted it to carry a meaning.

The dial captures NAGA moving through the water, surrounded by waves and clouds, with deep blue enamel contrasted against the warmth of gold. The more I look at it, the more details I discover.

What makes it even more special is the cloisonné enamel. Fine gold wires are carefully shaped by hand to create the outlines of the artwork, with each individual section then filled with enamel, layer by layer. The wires become part of the artwork itself, giving the dial incredible depth and character.

And because this is a Unique Piece, there will never be another exactly like it.

For me, this is what makes collecting so meaningful. It’s not always about complications, specifications or the name on the dial. Sometimes it’s about finding a piece that connects with something personal....

I have always had a deep respect for NAGA, and having that inspiration captured in a unique piece of watchmaking makes this one especially meaningful to me.

A very special addition to the collection 🌸

The @oan.gio Project Flower of Time (Fleur du Temps) is a beautiful expression of traditional craftsmanship, with a hand-engraved dial adorned with intricate floral motifs, complemented by warm gold hands and sub-dial.

But what made this purchase even more special was the experience with @iamnghia Nghia. From the conversation to finally seeing the watch in person, there is something very rewarding about meeting the person behind a piece that has been made with so much care.

Thank you, Nghia, for creating such beautifully crafted watches for us to enjoy and appreciate. This one feels particularly special.

An optical labyrinth born from traditional artistry. 🌌✨

Getting beneath the glass on the handcrafted dial of the OAN.GIO. The dial face showcases exquisite craft created in collaboration with Japanese lacquer artist Keisuke Sano, utilizing traditional Urushi and meticulous Raden (mother-of-pearl and abalone inlay). Hundreds of micro-elements are hand-set one by one into this mesmerizing, radial rainbow mosaic.

Signed Cadran Main along the brushed chapter ring, every single angle catches light differently—shifting seamlessly from electric blues to fiery magentas, set against the linear spectrum of the off-center running seconds.

I’ve been working on a truly unique piece over the last year with my friend @iamnghia at @oan.gio , and part of wrapping up this project meant getting to meet some of the incredible artisans bringing it to life.

I took the train from Kowloon, Hong Kong down to Dongguan, China to visit a specialized cloisonné and Grand Feu enamel workshop. There, I had the privilege of meeting Master Artisan and founder Xiao, who is creating my dial. Trained by a Japanese cloisonné and enamel master in Shanghai, she later opened her own workshop in Dongguan. Xiao is a renowned, award-winning artist and artisan who is far more than a supplier for Oan Gio, she is a key partner in the artistic vision and creation behind some of their pieces.

Seeing the level of craft behind the scenes, from turning solid silver and gold into raw dial bases, to the complex precision of wire setting by hand and firing the enamel was unforgettable.

The highlight? Getting an early look at my own dial, which is almost complete (you can see the back of my dial on the dark blue enameled piece)😊

A miniature canvas of Japanese art on the wrist: The OAN.GIO Raden Hatsuniji "First Rainbow" 🌈✨

Most watch dials are painted or printed—but this piece takes decorative craft into true horological art.

Collaborating with traditional Japanese lacquer master Keisuke Sano, this piece brings authentic Urushi and Raden art directly to life:
• The Dial: Roughly 490 individual pieces of natural abalone and mother-of-pearl, hand-cut and individually placed in a concentric mosaic pattern to reflect utsuroi—the beauty of shifting light.
• Running Seconds: A dedicated 6 o'clock sub-dial featuring vertical Raden striations, creating two completely distinct light plays across a single surface.
• Movement: OAN.GIO’s customized hand-wound Prestige V2 caliber (ETA Unitas 6498-2 family), beating at 21,600 vph with a 56-hour power reserve, 3N gold perlage mainplate, diamond-polished chamfers, and snailing.
• The Strap: Hand-tailored in collaboration with Adiantes using authentic upcycled vintage Japanese kimono silk.
