Mokele Mbembé?? Mami Wata? Religion and spirituality in Subsahara regions. by @obedtemba

Chimpanzees are one of humanity's closest living relatives.

These great apes depend on the vast forest corridors of the Greater Congo Basin. Protecting their habitat goes beyond saving trees; it safeguards entire ecosystems and the wildlife that rely on them.

Responding to Anna Soy of BBC about the Congo Basin Expedition and the extraordinary word being done to promote Ecotourism. #ashdykes #congobasin by @obedtemba

800 kilometers through one of the most vital rainforests on Earth... mission completed!

Over 18 grueling days, @ash_dykes, videographer @btswithwill, and our very own @obedtemba navigated the Sangha River deep into the Congo Basin. From paddling up to 15 hours a day through heavy storms to connecting with local BaAka communities and encountering incredible wildlife, this journey was about so much more than endurance.

It showed the world why the Congo Basin matters. As the "second lungs of the planet," these vast canopy forests and waterways store critical global carbon, shelter endangered gorillas and forest elephants, and thrive because of the local communities who protect them every day.

We couldn’t be prouder of Obed for representing local leadership, resilience, and the true spirit of the Congo on this historic expedition.

Huge congratulations to the entire team on crossing the finish line! 💚🇨🇩

Tonight, I’ll be joining Lopang Alamu live on SABC News – Late Edition to share our extraordinary Congo Basin expedition, the challenges we faced, and, most importantly, why protecting the world’s second-largest tropical rainforest matters.

What started as a journey through the heart of Africa has become an opportunity to give the Congo Basin a bigger voice.

📺 Tonight, 25 October | 22:20 SAST | SABC News, Channel 404

Hope you can tune in!

The joy of finally sitting in a motorboat after weeks of pushing our way down the river with nothing but our hands and paddles.

Itchy fingers, a sleepy brain, broken bones, sore eyes, an ashy beard, a smelly back, a beaten-up ass, and feet that have forgotten what it feels like to be dry…

But above all, a story has been written, hope has been raised, and a mission accomplished.

Every bit of pain was worth it. The Congo Basin has a story to tell, and we made sure the world heard it. @ash_dykes @btswithwill by @obedtemba

Congo basin mission achieved!!!🏁

What an insane, difficult, challenging, beautiful, enlightening mission this was. I did this because I wasn’t sure I could, and I wanted to find the answer. Finding the ordinary truth in an exceptional person, but this time in one of the most difficult environments I've ever been in.

It’s been a privilege to work with @ash_dykes on this; we’ve only dropped one episode so far, and the next two are in production this week, which is so exciting. What a team, what a place. Thank you so much to everyone who’s been supporting this journey. Very excited to bring you Adventure 2-6.

Stay tunedNext time by @obedtemba
