ā€œWhere The Light Entersā€ Sculpture, Wood 16ā€x4ā€x4ā€ Ally Scherer, 2026

This sculpture was inspired by the words of Persian poet Rumi: ā€œThe wound is the place where the light enters you.ā€ That single idea became the foundation for every material and design choice made throughout this piece.

Shattered fragments of raw wood are coupled by a blockade of spent long-range bullet shells encased in a translucent window, deliberately allowing light to pour into the interior of the form. This interplay between destruction and illumination is intentional.

What appears broken on the outside becomes a vessel for something luminous within. The exterior explores the embodiment of trauma and the walls we build to survive a life in which softness once meant danger.

To engage with this piece is to feel what it costs to carry certain experiences. This sculpture embodies systemic harm and the complicated, nonlinear process of seeking healing. It does not offer resolution, but rather asks its viewer to sit with the tension of walking through pain in order to reach the light waiting on the other side.

ā€œAlchemized Motherā€, Reclaimed Steel & Spent Brass

Exploring the weight of the feminine journey and the impossible balance of being the armor and the heart at the same time. These wings are woven from history and hardware, transmuting the spent parts of survival into a new kind of strength. Not just surviving, but reclaiming. taken in OU School of Visual Arts by @obnoxiouslyresilient

Standard uniform…Handmade crochet, teal accents, and enough dog hair to start a second project.

A huge thank you to @houk.jpeg for being the vision behind the lens and truly capturing my essence in this shot.

Last night at the Paseo FEAST, I had the incredible honor of being One of Five Selected Finalists for 2026, presenting From Earth to Art: Rewoven Traditions in the Cross Timbers Ecoregion. I allowed myself to be vulnerable, shared what sets my soul on fire, and stood alongside some truly remarkable finalists.

Huge congratulations to the theatre group @whateverworksisok …their energy and execution were magnetic, and they completely deserved the win! I’m so happy for them and deeply grateful to have been in the room as a finalist.

While my project didn’t take home the funding this time around, making it to this stage was a win in itself, and I truly believe the doors that are meant to open for me will. Stepping up and trying is always better than wondering what if. Onward to the next adventure!

Last night, the Pallet Swap Exhibition opened at @artsat302 , and I’m so honored to be sharing space alongside such a talented group of artists exploring natural pigments.

The pieces I’m showing are pivotal milestones in my ongoing research. Diving into natural dyes started as a way to honor my Persian heritage, while weaving became the medium where I could sit with, process, and give form to grief and rage surrounding current events.

Learning these ancient traditions often feels like time traveling and yet a quiet, powerful reminder that we are still here doing the work, tending to the earth, and finding ways to care for one another. If you’re in the area, please drop by @artsat302 to experience the show in person! by @obnoxiouslyresilient

October is going to be a great month! My curated show Palette Swap opens at @artsat302 this Friday, October 2nd! The reception is from 6-9 and will include some light refreshments. I have an incredible group of artists participating so I hope you’ll be able to join us. You’ll notice some of your favorite Oklahoma artists on the roster, but I’ve also recruited masterpieces from artists in: Iowa, Kansas, Tennessee, and New York! Many of these artists have created entirely new artworks for the occasion so you’ll be the first to see these naturally dyed treasures!

To an outsider, this looks like pure chaos: wool processing, dodecahedron jigs, spray paint, mold-making, and getting lost in library archives on moths.

But the side quest is the quest. Living with a neurodivergent brain means embracing how these hyper-fixations bleed into each other until a project suddenly makes total sense. Earth-to-art research, material experimentation, and a whole lot of proud studio hours. by @obnoxiouslyresilient

Meet Reggie. šŸ‘

Reggie is a Dorset sheep who lives just five minutes down the road from my studio. She isn’t a nameless, anonymous ball of yarn from a big-box store...she is a deeply loved creature, cared for by local hands, and I am profoundly honored to be initiating an interconnected fine art practice with the beautiful fleece she grows.

I'm thrilled to share that my ongoing work, From Earth to Art: Rewoven Traditions in the Cross Timbers, has been selected as a finalist for the 2026 Paseo FEAST Grant!

This project is all about building full-circle material autonomy right here in Oklahoma. By sourcing raw fleeces from neighbors like Reggie and local dye plants for our community work, we are bridging the gap between local agriculture, slow textile traditions, and fine art tapestry.

If you'd like to dive deeper into this research and follow along as the project grows, I’ve just updated my new Projects & Research page on the website:

If you are local to OKC, I would love for you to join us for the live Paseo FEAST event and community vote on Tuesday, October 13, from 6–8 PM at The Ritz on Britton! Let’s celebrate slow craft, land stewardship, and community-connected art together. 🌿🧵

Autumn is bringing some incredible things to the studio, and I’m so excited to share that I have a couple of upcoming shows on the horizon!

Getting these pieces out into the world means everything to me, and I’d love for you to see them when they open:

Palette Swap — A deep dive into ancient botanical dye processes, natural colorants, and hand-painted mordant prints on silk and wool.

Cozy at Mycelium Gallery — Featuring Vessel and Verdure, a brand new mixed-media fiber and wood sculpture that looks at structural containment and organic resilience.

I've put together all the dates, locations, and show details over on my site. Head to the link in my bio and check out the Events page so you can plan to come by! by @obnoxiouslyresilient
