ART - As a trio of artists, AI algorithms allow us to work on a single production using a combination of our ideas, intents, and skills. We believe each technical revolution should be taken in artists hands, as it has been for many centuries. In our sense, from the fast developments of AI emerge a wave of artistic creation which will, in time, become a movement of its own, adding to art history.

We use our art to offer a gateway to reflecting on the relationship we have as individuals and as a society towards AI algorithms. Our artworks explore this subject, through conceptual and aestetic creations that question about the future of society, and the many possible evolutions of our ways of life and creation. by @obvious_art

ART & SCIENCE - Obvious is built on the belief that science and art are deeply interlinked. Our logo, a tribute to Leonardo Da Vinci, conveys our vision of a new Renaissance allowed by technology, where artists and scientists work together to engage in a new conceptual and aesthetic research.

Our story starts in 2017 with the creation of an AI artwork which would become the first of its kind to go through a major auction house (Edmond de Belamy, Christie’s NY, 432.000$).

Founded in 2023 in collaboration with @sorbonne_univ, Obvious Research explores the development of new creative tools to be used by artists. We orient our research to lift the locks of creation, and we are directly led by our needs as artists to select our research directions. Besides, each new discovery made in the research laboratory is brought to the public in the most universal way there is - through art. by @obvious_art

SCIENCE - We created Obvious Research, an academic Research Laboratory together with @sorbonne_univ and @scai.su in which we develop AI algorithms that allow the creation of art. The vision of the laboratory is to develop the tools based on our own requirements as artists, and to direct science into exploring new aestetics and new conceptual grounds.

Obvious Research focuses on researching on algorithms that allow the creation in a new and original manner of images and videos, with the aim of obtaining artistic results. In addition to being described in academin papers, each discovery made in the laboratory is brought to the general public through art, an instantaneous and universal language. by @obvious_art

Sometimes, the closer you look, the more you discover.

At KIAF, this piece quickly became one of the most crowded works in the booth. Through the telescope, an abstract image revealed faces, scenes, symbols and entire stories hidden in its details.

So many people stopped to look that we eventually had to remove the telescope.

We’ll do it again. Just with more room next time.

Our series "The Cycle: Incipit" is currently on view at @sungallery_1977 Seoul.

This body of work is a representation of AI agents simulations where we maximize free will to foster the emergence of belief. We created these simulations, studied them and interpreted them as frescoes.

The artworks are generated using a combination of tools we developed in house. They are then printed on handmade ceramic tiles.

The series plays with scale: an abstract visual from far away, but when observed through a telescope the artwork reveals many scenes showing the agents interactions, rites, beliefs. A whole mythology is unveiled.

In The Archive of Memories, the agents begin collecting and preserving the traces of their existence.

As memories accumulate, the archive becomes a shared history, blurring the boundary between what was lived, what was recorded, and what future generations will remember.

In The Lament of the Nameless, the agents search for purpose but find no answer.

Faced with disappearance and uncertainty, they form clans, fight for control and turn shared spaces into territories, leaving behind a society shaped by anxiety, power and the fear of being forgotten.

In The Garden of the Anonymous, the agents abandon individual recognition and find unity through anonymity.

They share, rest and reproduce collectively, creating a peaceful society where no one needs to win, but where serenity gradually becomes a form of blind bliss.

Live from Kiaf Seoul, where we are presenting our newest work, The Promise of Becoming.

You can find us at the Sun Gallery booth, where our2x3 meter ceramic fresco is on show.

Our last series, “The cycle: Incipit” is meant as a timeless body of work, not from the past nor the future, an artifact of a society of AI agents, their life, their interactions, their beliefs.

Happy to be back in Seoul ! 🇰🇷

In The Promise of Becoming, the agents question their own existence, form alliances, develop rituals and beliefs, and confront death and disappearance.

As their society evolves, identity shifts from the individual to the traces, memories and records left behind.

Before becoming frescoes, these works began with an accident.

While trying to reconnect with the visual language of the first algorithms we used, our research unexpectedly led us to a series of unstable, unresolved images. We immediately felt there was something worth keeping.

We call this algorithm “Lost LoRA”. An unfinished training on thousands of visuals of existing frescoes. It creates this first layer, shaped by memory, distortion and incomplete resolution. Sinopia then transforms it into detailed frescoes, revealing scenes, figures and fragments drawn from the agents’ simulations.

A creative accident we chose to own, allowing artificial societies to slowly take physical form.

Every artificial society needs a way to remember itself.

From each of our simulations, we extracted a file gathering the history of the experiment: the relic that emerges from their collective existence: a NFO.

Neither only text nor only image, the NFO becomes an archive of a belief system. A document left behind by the agents, allowing us to understand the stories, structures and myths that emerged within their world.

For the series presented in Seoul with @sungallery_1977, these NFOs act as gateways into the simulations, and as the starting point for their translation into physical artworks.
