sabato 5 settembre - Radio Silence di Mauro Diciocia
Talk-performance

ATOPOS cvc ร— Office of Hydrocommons
PURPLE โ€” ECOLOGIES OF SALTSCAPES
Annalisa Zegna & Mauro Diciocia

ATOPOS cvc ร— Office of Hydrocommons is happy to present the trailer of the new video work created by Annalisa Zegna & Mauro Diciocia in the framework of Purple โ€” Ecologies of Saltscapes, a multidisciplinary research project developed during their residency in Greece. If you have not make it to their open day, get a glimpse of their research!

Exploring the hypersaline lagoons of Messolonghi, the project investigates the ecological interconnections between extremophile organisms inhabiting saline environments. Drawing on field research conducted in dialogue with scientists, environmental researchers, and local communities, the artists present an audiovisual installation combining video and field recordings that translate the micro-dynamics and macro-rhythms of the lagoon ecosystem.

Inspired by the Purple Earth Hypothesis and the vibrant pigments of microorganisms thriving under extreme conditions, Purple โ€” Ecologies of Saltscapes reflects on resilience as a collective ecological process, foregrounding interdependence, care and coexistence in times of environmental uncertainty.

๐Ÿ’ฆWe are thrilled to welcome Annalisa Zegna and Mauro Diciocia as the newest residents of ATOPOS cvc x Office of Hydrocommons. โ€ผ๏ธPublic presentation on Saturday 13 at Salaminos 72 venue, more info soon.โ€ผ๏ธ
๐Ÿ’ฆTheir collaborative practice explores aquatic ecologies, wetlands and liminal landscapes through visual, sonic, and performative research grounded in fieldwork, listening and ecological observation.
๐Ÿ’ฆWe are especially happy to welcome Annalisa back to the residency program. Previously in residence with ATOPOS cvc x Office of Hydrocommons, she developed research around hypersalinity and saline ecologies, a line of inquiry she now expands together with Mauro through Purple โ€” Ecologies of Saltscapes.
๐Ÿ’ฆThe project focuses on the hypersaline lagoons of Messolonghi and the extremophile organisms inhabiting these environments. Combining sound, video, microscopy, and field recordings, the artists investigate microbial life, red-purple pigments produced in high salinity conditions, and the ecological rhythms connecting these wetlands. Inspired by the Purple Earth Hypothesis, the research will culminate in an immersive audiovisual installation developed in dialogue with scientific and local communities.

We are excited to host ๐Œ๐š๐ฎ๐ซ๐จ ๐ƒ๐ข๐œ๐ข๐จ๐œ๐ข๐š at @trafo_szczecin this February! The artist is in Poland for a residency with the ๐“๐„๐Š๐‡๐๐„ฬ โ€“ ๐๐ž ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ programme. Stay tuned for details of his performative presentation, which will conclude the residency on February 21.

Mauro Diciocia works in the sonic field through active-listening participatory practice, soundscape composition, and sound art. His practice unfolds through listening, recording, and forgetting - exploring the relationships between sound and space, language and narrative.

Building on urban legends surrounding mysterious number station transmissions from Szczecin, during his residency at TRAFO Mauro will focus on radio and electromagnetic reception as an expanded field of listening. His research approaches radio as a space to inhabit: a sonic environment permeated by historical and political traces, invisible infrastructures, and ecological currents. Tracing man-made and natural emissions, his listening practice attempts to dwell within the radioscape as a matrix where human and more-than-human agencies interact across scales, attuning to the subtle flows and resonances that ripple throughout.

Deeply grateful for the research residency at @gap_guilmiartproject in Abruzzo โ€” beautifully curated by Lucia Giardino and Chico Bacci. We dived into ponds and sediments of the Sinello river, connecting with the liminal, wet memories of people and places. We encountered algae, crabs, and frogs, followed hidden trails through the woods, and listened to the resonance of underwater bells.
The voices of Teresa, Leo, Cice, Beppe, Filippo, Mara, Fabrizio, Luca, Maurizio, Pino, Piero, Salvatore, Rosanna, Gisela, Franco, Noa, Milo, Federica, and Nicholas are still echoing in our minds.
Everything keeps flowing as we look ahead to the next steps! taken in Guilmi Art Project by @occhiosordo
