This Hammerhead photo was taken at Tiger Beach in the Bahamas. I am a big fan of black and white photography and I love using this technique in my underwater photography. It’s not just simply turning the image to black and white, but I took this photo with the intention of making it a BW image 🖤🩶🤍

I recently bought the new Sony alpha 6700 and a nauticam housing for students to use when they come to learn underwater video or photography with me.

I took the new rig for a spin with a 16-50 kit lens and the SMC macro diopter from Nauticam. I love this smaller setup and the image quality is amazing 🤩

I shot this flatworm in 100fps with just the 16-50 lens set to 48mm. The focus is set to continuous auto focus and I set it to subject recognition in AF with the target: animal. This works great!

Sometimes all you need is to grab your fins, camera and head into the ocean.

It’s still so warm here on Koh Tao, and there’s no better way to cool off and clear my head than a snorkel.

No plans, no expectations. Just enjoying those last moments of daylight, floating around and seeing what the ocean has to offer.

After all these years, this is still my happy place. 🩵

I’ve been waiting so long to post more from Mo’orea.

Not because I don’t have footage or photos… but because I still don’t really have the words for how it felt to be in the water with these whales.

It’s incredibly humbling to be next to an animal this big. But when one actually chooses to interact with you, it becomes something else entirely.

This whale was swimming past when it stopped and turned towards me.
Slowly came up into a spy hop, almost as if it wanted a better look at this tiny human floating there. And then it turned even more… until we locked eyes.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment.

You suddenly feel very small. Very emotional. And incredibly grateful that moments like this can still happen in our world. 🩵 This photo is just the beginning of that encounter.
I’ll share the whole story soon… because what happened next made this one of the most unforgettable moments I’ve ever had in the ocean.

Moorea wasn’t only about the whales 🩵

One of my favorite ways to start the day was snorkeling this shallow sandbar, surrounded by blacktip reef sharks and all kinds of rays.

Crystal clear water, white sand and sharks cruising everywhere. And because it’s so shallow, you can just float around and watch everything happening below you.

Not a bad morning before heading out to look for humpbacks 🐋

Moorea really has so much to offer both above and below the surface.

First time putting the SeaLife macro lens to the test… and Japan was definitely the right place for it 🇯🇵

So many tiny subjects hiding on the reef, and I loved seeing how much detail I could capture with such a small and simple setup

What a crazy month it’s been 💙

From Bangkok to Tahiti and Mo’orea, swimming with humpback whales, turtles and sharks… and then straight to Japan, searching for the tiniest macro subjects in Okinawa

So many completely different underwater worlds in just a few weeks.

And now I’m finally home… with A LOT to edit 😂

I honestly can’t wait to properly sit down behind my computer and go through everything I filmed and photographed over the past weeks.

Starting with a few moments from Mo’orea 🐋💙
That water… so clear, so blue, just insane. And the encounters we had with the humpbacks are something I’ll never forget.

Tomorrow, editing mode officially begins.

This little lionfish gave me not one, but several yawns in front of the camera

I filmed this with my new Sony 100mm F2.8 Macro lens and love the results

Still testing the new lens underwater, but moments like this make macro diving way too much fun. Can’t wait to do more of this!

Meanwhile in Japan… 🇯🇵💙

After all the big whale encounters, it’s time to change focus completely… macro mode is ON 🔎🤿

Today we did 3 dives in Okinawa, spending most of our time slowly searching for the tiny critters.

Leaf scorpionfish, a tiny frogfish, snake eels sticking their heads out of the sand… and so many little Costasiellas hiding on the sandy bottom🐑💚

It’s such a different way of diving.
Instead of looking out into the blue, you’re staring at one tiny patch of sand thinking… what else is hiding here?

And somehow, the smaller you start looking, the more you find.

From humpback whales to creatures smaller than my fingernail. I really do love both sides of the underwater world. 💙

More tiny Okinawa treasures coming soon… 🇯🇵
