Meet Mark Haver, one of the people fighting every day to make sure the ocean finally gets the global attention it deserves!

At COP30, Mark helped carry the message that ocean action = climate action.
He was there to make sure the ocean wasn’t an afterthought and that world leaders heard what so many communities have been saying for years.

And now, Mark is working with others to build global pressure against deep sea mining. It is the same kind of organising that helped push Canada to ban it just one week after public action. Real people, real pressure, real wins for the ocean.

If you want to help protect the ocean, you can support mark on chilli by taking action with him or making a contribution so that he can stay focused on the work instead of chasing grants.

✨ COMMENT MARK TO BE DMED A LINK TO HIS CHILLI PROFILE ✨

At COP30, we have been on a mission to place the ocean front and center with #CommitToOcean. We do it for the corals and on behalf of the 3 billion people on our planet who depend on a healthy ocean for their livelihoods. 🪸🎣

This is a rallying cry for everyone to get involved, and we are making it easier than ever to take action. Check out my advocacy kit in my bio so we can advance bold ocean-climate action ⚡️❤️‍🔥

In college, I had always dreamed of mobilizing grassroots support for ocean advocacy, but I had always faced so many obstacles, or at least that's what people told me. Not enough people cared about the ocean anyway, people wouldn't mobilize for the ocean in the same way they would for climate, and a protest would be too small. Two weeks ago, we got 200 young and indigenous people out in the streets on a cold and rainy day in Vancouver about an ocean issue as "niche" as deep-sea mining. We captured the attention of national and global media, while @look_down_action @theoxygenproj @ansroux @graine_de_possible @underwaterbaguette @soalliance @vasserseydel @oceans_north @nicole.zanesco @charlie.mz mobilized thousands of people online to support our campaign. Now, people are giving the ocean the love and respect it deserves, and the waves of positive change for ocean health are building. This celebration is for all of us, for it is a signal of the potential we have unlocked and will continue to unlock for ocean optimism. Keep up the focused slayage ❤️ also enjoy my Vancouver photo dump w some incredible people 💚🌊 #deepseamining #defendthedeep #ocean #activism #tmcsucks #lookdown #climateaction

Comment GREENWASHING below to take action and stop the sell off of the seafloor to seabed mining companies

The New York Times wants a show at Climate Week, so they invite the CEO of The Metals Company to proselytize their false narratives. Simultaneously, they incorrectly report on seabed mining in the session description.

It takes a simple Google search to know that the Trump Administration has not given out licenses to any seabed mining companies. @nytimes shame on you. Journalistic integrity out the window. Where is your credibility when you can’t keep the most basic facts correct?

Right now, the Trump Administration is considering giving The Metals Company a license to begin commercial mining in international waters. We have through October 13 to provide feedback. Take action with us and comment below

The New York Times is giving The Metals Company CEO Gerard Barron a climate platform while his company pursues deep-sea mining.

Climate Forward says it brings people together to discuss climate solutions. But climate journalism should scrutinize deep-sea mining, not help normalise it.

The Metals Company wants to collect mineral-rich nodules from the Pacific’s Clarion-Clipperton Zone. A 2025 study funded by the company found that, two months after a mining test, animal numbers in mined tracks had fallen 37% and species richness had fallen 32%. That was just one test, not decades of commercial mining.

Take action to call on The New York Times to remove Gerard Barron from the Climate Forward lineup before the September 23 event. Head to our profile and take the action at our link in bio 🌶️

Climate Forward? More like Climate Backward!

Seabed mining is NOT a climate solution, and giving them a platform to repeat this false narrative would be greenwashing!

@nytimes wtf! We’re calling for Gerard Baron to be removed from the line up. Even with tough questions, you’re legitimizing a business that has no business being associated with sustainability or climate solutions.

Comment below and I’ll dm you a link through @chilli.app so you can take action!

Trump wants to sell off the seafloor to the companies who want to create the world’s largest mine on the BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN!!

Cute creatures like Miss Abyss the Dumbo Octopus live in the places they’re trying to mine, and they deserve to be protected!

Comment and I will send you the link to the toolkit so you can participate in the Miss Abyss challenge too!!

🚨 Our seafloor is not for sale!! Deep-sea mining is moving forward in the US, and there are serious questions about who is overseeing the process.

@noaa is reviewing The Metals Company’s bid to mine the ocean floor, under a Commerce Department official who previously ran a firm with reported financial ties to that same company.

Congress needs to investigate. We’re taking action and need your help 👇🏾

Comment CONGRESS and we’ll send you the action now!
