During today’s public hearing almost 2 straight hours of testimony were shared by individuals from across the globe urging NOAA to deny TMC’s consolidated application to begin Deep Sea Mining in the Clarion Clipperton Zone.

More people were in the hearings que to share testimony then there was time for during the hearing. This is an awesome problem to have! The people showed up, and we made our voices heard. I myself did not make it off of the que to speak during the call, but I am sharing my testimony here and submitting it to NOAA as written comment.

You don’t have to be an expert on Deep Sea Mining for your comment to make an impact. You can simply write “My name is ___. I am from (country or state you’re from) and I urge NOAA to deny TMC’s application.” Make your comment personal by sharing why you care about the ocean and why preventing Deep Sea Mining is important to YOU! For ocean health, human health, future generations, whatever it may be! YOU can make a difference by submitting your comment to NOAA before October 19th, 2026. Together we can defend our Moana.

What does it take to tell climate stories that connect, inspire, and drive action? 🌍🎥

Our second annual Climate Media Training Day brought together climate communicators, creators, campaigners, and storytellers for a day of learning, creative showcases, and meaningful conversations.

From communicating climate science with the IPCC and leveraging storytelling for successful campaigns to exploring creator coalitions, community-based narratives, and climate comedy, we exchanged ideas on making climate communication more compelling, accessible, and impactful.

A huge thank you to The Carmack Collective, Carmack Productions, and Let’s Choose Love for making this day possible, our speakers for sharing their insights, and nomadworks for their support. Here’s to telling better climate stories together! 💚

Esta foi a minha segunda vez na New York Climate Week - uma semana de eventos, encontros e reuniões por toda a cidade, que acontece todos os anos em paralelo com a Assembleia Geral das Nações Unidas 🇺🇳

Foi uma semana de correria, muitas conversas e aprendizagens. Justiça climática, conhecimento ancestral, proteção dos ecossistemas, cultura e arte; painéis sobre a relação entre a crise climática, a guerra, o militarismo e a exploração de recursos; e sessões estratégicas, nomeadamente sobre transição energética e soluções para tornar a energia mais acessível.

Houve também momentos de luta, à porta da ONU, pela Palestina e pelo fim do apoio militar e financeiro norte-americano 🍉

Tive a oportunidade de ouvir pessoas incríveis, como o cientista Johan Rockström, que apresentou os resultados do Planetary Health Check deste ano (um diagnóstico anual sobre a saúde do planeta). Como podem imaginar, isto não está nada famoso: 7 dos 9 Limites Planetários já foram ultrapassados, com a pressão sobre estes limites a atingir níveis nunca antes registados.

Outro momento especial foi ouvir a @dr.sylviaearle, célebre oceanógrafa, bióloga marinha e exploradora, que nos lembrou que “nunca antes tivemos acesso ao conhecimento que temos hoje. E nunca mais teremos uma oportunidade tão boa como a que temos agora.”

Houve ainda momentos de celebração, como a Awaken Action Youth Climate Gala, onde ouvimos a Dr. @robinwallkimmerer, reconhecida por aproximar a ciência ocidental do conhecimento ecológico tradicional dos povos indígenas.

E, claro, não podia faltar uma passagem pelo meu lugar favorito em Nova Iorque @peoplesforumnyc, um espaço dedicado à organização e mobilização das classes trabalhadoras e comunidades marginalizadas. (E pelo meio, ainda consegui o sidequest de ouvir o @berniesanders)

Mas a melhor parte da semana continua a ser reencontrar tantos amigos e colegas de diferentes partes do mundo 🫶 To all the friends I got to see, can’t wait to keep organizing together and see you all again soon!! ❤️Até à próxima, Mamdanistan 👋

RALLY FOR THE DEEP SEA ON OCT. 8 (Info below) 🌊

A scientific expedition near the remote Christmas and Cocos Islands identified 149 marine species new to science, including black corals, marine worms, and sea cucumbers, along with a deposit containing more than 1,000 fossilized shark teeth spanning over 22 million years of evolution.

Discoveries like these are powerful reminders of how vast our oceans are and how much we still have to learn from them.

And they’re reminders of what we need to protect.

On Thursday, October 8, join us to learn how you can help Defend the Deep 💙

We’re partnering with @futureswell @oceanswarrior @oceana and more to bring public voices into NOAA’s review of The Metals Company’s application for deep-sea mining in U.S. and territorial waters.

We need to tell NOAA that deep-sea mining puts ecosystems and marine life at risk, and it threatens everyone who relies on the ocean (aka everyone who breathes oxygen).
