Back from an incredible trip to @ocrcwc in Australia!!
🏆 1st place mixed teams with @krisrugloski and @leonkofoed_ 🫶
🥉 3rd place in the 15km Men’s Pro race 🔥
4th place in the 3km Men’s Pro race 🥵
Jumped into the 80m course as well and had a blast, but didn’t qualify for finals! 💥

It felt AMAZING to be back obstacle racing again!! This event was one that originally got me hooked on the sport and when I started endurance training seriously for it in 2014, and has always been a favourite over the years (this was my 5th time back)! Thanks @ocrcwc for putting together an incredibly fun course at a beautiful venue, with some new obstacles I really liked (Fortress was my favourite!). Bonus - getting to see Kangaroos every morning at the venue too 🦘

@ocrcwc was the best one to date! And next year they’re are headed to Tasmania!! Ladies & Gentlemen, if you are an OCR runner, racer , Ninja, a trail runner a fitness enthusiast of any kind! This is your race weekend! We had a great turn out over the few days of racing! But I feel we can get even more people out to the event. There’s is a huge misconception about Australia being so far away. Now that I’ve made the trip. I plan to come back very soon. This place is truly magical and magnificent. All it takes is a little planning, but it’s well worth it! I hope everyone has chance to soak up this beautiful continent. I’m definitely not done exploring.

@ocrcwc 3km PRO 🥉

First, let me recap the last race 😀 — starting with the most exciting event. Before the start, I tried to switch my mindset from Spartan mode, where you only get one attempt on obstacles and I usually approach them more carefully, to a mode where I needed to take more risks and move faster.

Right from the start I pushed to the front, hitting splits under 3:00/km, and I reached the first technical obstacle in the lead, closely followed by @leonkofoed_ 🇩🇰 and @alecbloklandocr 🇳🇱. On the opening technical obstacles I lost the lead, but only by a few seconds.

Then came a short sandbag carry where I went all out and closed the gap again. On the short running section before Pendulum, I moved back into the lead and I managed to stay in front until next technical section with Olympus and three more obstacles where I knew the guys would probably pass me. I moved through them pretty fast for my standards 😂, but it still wasn’t enough and Leon 🇩🇰 opened up about a 15-second gap there.

I was still holding 3rd place, with @austin.azar 🇨🇦 only a few seconds behind me and Alec 🇳🇱 just a few seconds ahead. Around 500m and a few obstacles remained, but the positions stayed unchanged and I finished 3rd at the @ocrcwc 3km, only 27 seconds behind Leon 👑🇩🇰 and 11 seconds behind Alec 🇳🇱.

For me, this performance felt like a victory. Huge thanks to Austin, Alec, and Leon for an incredible race from the start all the way to the final meters. And a big thank you to @ocrcwc for organizing such an amazing event in a beautiful location 🇦🇺🙌 taken in Ivory's Rock by @ocrcwc

@ocrcwc made last-minute updates to the 80m finals brackets.

@ocr_luccketta found out only minutes before his run that he was in finals.

Without a warm-up and running in jeans, true American style, he only missed the win by a few seconds.

He did faster than his first run, but knowing the course was the advantage, not the jeans!

He loves this stuff!!

What an epic weekend!

NZ pulled through and brought home some trinkets, unforgettable memories, and plenty of lessons for the future. 🇳🇿

I raced the 15km on Friday and then backed it up with the 21km on Saturday, where I was stoked to bring home 1st in my AG 🥇

Friday was tough. From the obstacles to the mental battles, there were definitely moments where I considered dropping out. Losing my band early on, having a panic attack, and tearing open my hands made it one of the hardest races and worst performances I’ve had.

But being able to reset, move forward, and complete my first 21km obstacle race with near zero penalties and such a great result is something I’m super proud of. I’m happy I could leave the previous result behind and focus fully on the next race ahead.

Super grateful to be part of such an amazing and supportive NZ team, and so lucky to race alongside some incredible athletes at such a well-run event.

Thanks team! 🙌🇳🇿 taken in Ivory's Rock by @ocrcwc

15KM OCRCWC CHAMPION🏆🥇 /
@ocrcwc
1st place 15km championships
2st place 3km championships

AFTER THE STORM, I FINALLY SAW THE FLOWERS.

What a day.

It’s been a long time since I could truly enjoy sport like this again… and wow, I missed this feeling.
The day started with the 15km race, my main goal of the entire event. And somehow…I won it. Still feels unreal.

During that race I finally felt free again.
Free from physical pain.
Free from overthinking.
And most importantly: free from doubting myself.

Running through the Australian nature in that state of flow was honestly one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had in sport. Everything just clicked. After months of injuries, setbacks and doubts… I really needed this.

Later that day we had the 3km race, and wow… that battle with @leonkofoed_ , @jan.vladar & @austinazar was insane. That’s exactly why I do this sport. Pushing each other to the absolute limit and suffering together, that’s what gives you goosebumps.

Huge respect to @ocrcwc for putting on such an incredible event.

Hopefully this gives everyone some FOMO 👀
And maybe makes people rethink where they’ll race next year. taken in Ivory's Rock by @ocrcwc
