"I started playing music when I was very young. I got a guitar for my ninth birthday and began playing American folk songs from a book I’d got, like Red River Valley and Hush Little Baby Don’t You Cry. I had a book of show tunes, too, from America. God knows what made me buy that book but I did and I learned things by Irving Berlin and Cole Porter, which was fantastic".
