“If I Keep Looking”, a group show by Ben Charles-Sendy, Jordan Koudmani, and Eve Murray-Fairhall.

In this exhibition Ben Charles-Sendy, Jordan Koudmani and Eve Murray-Fairhall’s practices converge within the paradox of excessive visibility and unresolved consequence, and around the exhibition’s central concern: what it feels like to inhabit systems where harm is ambient and exposure is no longer enough. Foregoing solutions, their work dwells in the unresolved space between knowing, watching, and
participating.

Writing Room #3: ‘You only possess what you renounce’, is a guided writing workshop which will move participants through multiple creative ‘phases,’ aimed at producing and purifying a written work within a single evening.

It will take place at Oddaný from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday 27th September.

Influenced by philosopher and mystic Simone Weil’s seminal essay ‘Decreation’, Writing Room #3 will guide participants through four progressive mental frameworks. These aim to at first create a work, and then pass it through a more extreme process of self-reflection and critique. Participants are very welcome to bring works-in-progress as well, or adapt the workshop for visual and hybrid forms.

‘Decreation’ is to make something created pass into the uncreated.

For Writing Room #3, ‘Decreation’ becomes a coherent approach to writing and editing, where the writer is guided through multiple processes of active renouncement: an attempt to empty a work to then be filled by grace.

Weil argues that something created must pass through the uncreated to become pure. To participate in Writing Room #3 in good faith, we must, at least for a few hours, take this to be true.

(It is important to note that Weil’s essay has been interpreted for the purpose of the workshop. Each guided phase is informed by the facilitator’s own uptake of Weil’s philosophy for literary, rather than theological, purposes.)

As always, the Writing Room is a free event which invites participants of all stages of engagement with writing to join, suspend disbelief, and participate wholeheartedly in the experiment.

Documentation from ’Weightless Matter’ a collaborative exhibition between visual artist Max Frances & poet Ava Nunan.

Through a series of call-and-response works, Frances and Nunan develop a conversation grounded in ekphrastic principles, encompassing both painting and visual poetry. ‘Weightless Matter’ switches between mediums in an ongoing exchange of questions and responses.

Anchored in their decade-long friendship, the artists’ translation of each other’s works ventures into abstract notions of the ocean, moss, and even dirt. ‘Weightless Matter’ is a series of generative, relational artworks, developed through a unique understanding of each other’s creative processes. by @oddanygallery

Sick Leave (@sickleavepress) launches their first sole-authored book EITHER WAY YOU LOSE, stories by Patrick Hunn, hosted by Oddaný in the Church, Bookstore, and Courtyard.

Writing Room 3 POSTPONED: Sunday 27 September 5-7pm, centres editing and critique, the third of a series of writers open studios that are experimental in style and approach. Some belated photos from our mutual aid winter fete a few weeks ago — we are so grateful and proud of all the people who came together and helped make it happen; be it the generous donation of art works, the hands who helped cooked food, our extended community for running around to pick up all the accoutrements of the afternoon, all who contributed their time and talents from musicians, photographers, volunteers and more.

Together, with the sale of artworks, food and beverage purchases, general donations and bodies in the room, we were able to raise a total of $9,024! The funds have been split between Black People’s Union Solidarity Fund, Osama’s Evacuation Fund and Beit Aam Community Centre in Beirut.

The efforts made on the fundraiser day would not have been possible without the immense work and care of Audrey Habib. Audrey continues to inspire and light the way for Oddaný and many others in their passion for what is right.

Oddaný gallery continues to stand with those experiencing colonial oppression and violence on this land and abroad.

More damn doulas! is an exhibition about holding.

To hold and to be held are complex actions. As living and unliving material beings, we have a duty of care towards all those made of matter, to listen and to hold in ways that nourish rather than suffocate – to ‘doula’.

Every thing has the potential to doula, to be-with, to hold, to mother. Every thing deserves to be doula’d – at all moments of existence, whether good, bad, or neutral. More damn doulas! is a call to action for all doulas, doulas-to-be, and doula-desirers.

We need each other in multitudes, in attentive, careful networks that fold over one another lovingly. by @oddanygallery
