Welcome to Melbourne’s most haunted gig.

As part of 𝑺𝒉𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔 we will be showing two films in the exhibition space at Oddany Gallery for two nights only in December 🚨. These films extend and deepen the exhibition’s exploration of hauntology in Melbourne, offering historical and narrative context for the city’s dynamic post-punk creative scene of the late 1970s and ’80s.

𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗶𝗼

𝘿𝙤𝙜𝙨 𝙄𝙣 𝙎𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚 (1986) Directed by Richard Lowenstein
Showing 7:30pm | 7/12/26

'Set against the backdrop of Melbourne's late 70s punk rock scene, Dogs in Space, starring Michael Hutchence, chronicles life in a chaotic, squalid share house.'

'The place is Melbourne, Australia 1978. The punk phenomenon is sweeping the country and Dogs In Space, a punk group, are part of it. In a squat, in a dodgy suburb, live a ragtag collection of outcasts and don’t-wanna-bes who survive on a diet of old TV space films, drugs and good music. And the satellite SKYLAB could crash through their roof at any moment…'

𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩: 𝙍𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎 𝙃𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 (2011) directed by by Richard Lowenstein and Lynn-Maree Milburn.
Showing 7:30pm | 8/12/26

'From myth to legend Rowland Howard appeared on the early Melbourne punk scene like a phantom out of Kafkaesque Prague or Bram Stoker’s Dracula. A beautifully gaunt and gothic aristocrat, the unique distinctive fury of his guitar style shot him directly into the imagination of a generation. He was impeccable, the austerity of his artistry embodied in his finely wrought form, his obscure tastes and his intelligently wry wit. He radiated a searing personal integrity that never seemed to tarnish. Despite the trials and tribulations of his career, in an age of makeover and reinvention, Rowland Howard never ‘sold out’.

With recent and moving interviews, archival interviews and other fascinating and original footage, AUTOLUMINESCENT traces the life of Rowland S Howard. Capturing moments with the man himself and intimate missives from those who knew him behind closed doors; words and images etch light into what has always been the mysterious dark'

Many thanks to Richard Lowenstein for generously providing us with these films!

More damn doulas!

14/08 – 16/08
Oddaný Gallery
Artists: Alisha Davenport, Margot de Gier, Sachi Orrock, and Isla Penman.

More damn doulas! is an exhibition about holding.

To hold and to be held are complex actions. As living and unliving material beings, we have a duty of care towards all those made of matter, to listen and to hold in ways that nourish rather than suffocate – to ‘doula’. The need to be held and the need to hold permeates human and more than human worlds, as material forms around material in intimate dances. This need looks different for every thing, and requires sensitivity.

This show’s title is inspired by scholar Sophie Lewis’ article “With-Women: Grieving in Capitalist Time” (2020), wherein Lewis discusses the difficulties of being-with grief in a techno-capitalist world. The article focuses this discussion on the figure of the midwife or doula – a holder/companion in moments of life and death. Following the death of her mother, Lewis notes the many doulas – or “doula-comrades” – that she enlisted to support her in the grieving process, whether they were friends, professionals, family, or strangers (Lewis, 2020).

Every thing has the potential to doula, to be-with, to hold, to mother. Every thing deserves to be doula’d – at all moments of existence, whether good, bad, or neutral. Through communal creation, sculptural installation, and photography, More damn doulas! is a call to action for all doulas, doulas-to-be, and doula-desirers.

We need each other in multitudes, in attentive, careful networks that fold over one another lovingly.

Exhibition documentation by Alisha Davenport.

This exhibition took place on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation. Always was, always will be.

Margot de Gier
Untitled (the egg; the womb) (2026)

This installation invites you to walk inside, to sit, to lie, and to touch.

Untitled (the egg; the womb) is a human holding space, birthed through collaborative creation, conversation, and material experimentation playfully exploring what it means

@artist._.ola’s @art.and_hope initiative
🎨
we have had the immense goi or of working with @artist._.ola from the inception of her young artist project. we have seen her grow her workshops and establish @art.and_hope to bring creative expression to even more of g^za’s children, offering them a safe space to process trauma, connect, play and laugh.
unfortunately Ola has has to temporarily pause the new series of workshops she was planning to begin to deliver last month, as she has been diagnosed and undergoes treatment for a serious medical condition.
🎨
so this month we are raising funds to offer Ola the same love and care she has given so many children
if you are able, especially if you are an artist or maker, please help us reach our goal so that Ola’s medical and dietary needs can be met

‘Contours’ at Oddaný Gallery is a choreographed investigation of how forms occupy, interrupt and depend upon space. Curated by Lilly Skipper, the exhibition treats the gallery as another material within the work: structures become anchors, and empty space becomes as important as the objects themselves. Across the four works, forms protrude, bend, hover and buckle, producing a subtle tension between support and collapse, rigidity and movement.

Lan Anh Truong’s ‘Potted Trio’ draws from her mother’s bonsai garden, reconfiguring the tools and structures of gardening into an abstract, almost architectural organism. Its forms wind and connect like vines, yet their growth is anything but natural. Garden stakes, connectors and repurposed components recall the human desire to train, contain and beautify nature, transforming acts of making and tending into forms of connection.

That tension between softness and structure continues through Arthur Foulkes’ ‘Well’, which transforms textiles into something surprisingly rigid: floral and striped fabrics overlap across an irregular, jagged form, their familiar domestic patterns colliding with the almost crude physicality of the object.

Tomas Ording-Jespersen’s ‘Moonrise Pastoral’ plays with perception. Its vivid red felt initially reads as a flat, almost glowing surface, but closer inspection reveals creases, sprayed areas of white and subtle shifts in texture. Two semicircular forms and hard-edged lines hover somewhere between landscape, architecture and abstraction.

Max Conley’s ‘Untitled’ almost disappears into the gallery itself. Its white, curved form echoes the architecture of the room, dissolving against the wall as though it is simultaneously an object and a fragment of the building.

Through restraint, ‘Contours’ allows the works to lean on one another, creating relationships through distance, scale, colour and suspension. The exhibition ultimately asks us to consider the precarious structures that allow things to exist: what holds us up, what bends under pressure, and what happens in the space between stability and collapse.

‘Contours’ a group show curated by the ever busy Lilly Skipper @lilly__skipper @honours.fineart.monash class of 2023.

Featuring the works by current Honours student Lan Anh Truong @lananh.trg,
Max Conley @mconley782829, class of 2025, alongside Arthur Foulkes and
Tomas Ording-Jespersen.

Opens Thursday the 30th of July, 6-8pm

“Artworks protrude, lean, bend, anchor, hover; oscillating between support and suspension…privileging adjacency and spacing, each composition yields to the work beside or parallel to it, while remaining a distinct structure. The skeletal frameworks emphasise support and balance, tracing differences in uprightness and slippage through observed and invisible anchor points” via @oddanygallery
