What happens when you put our co-founder Emilie, a handful of brilliant Oddboxers and a box of rescued fruit and veg together in one kitchen? A whole lot of peeling, chopping and chatting plus a totally delicious meal.

Emilie opened her home to a few members of our lovely community to do what we do best: take the ‘too wonky’, ‘too many’, and some extra-good pantry saves (big love to our friends @boldbeanco) and turn them into a food-waste-fighting feast.

The result?
🫘 Creamy leeks with butter beans
🍠 A rich sweet potato curry
🥦 Curried beetroot and broccoli
🍃 Sautéed leafy beetroot stems (yes, you can (and should) eat these!)
🍍Special shout-out to one of our Oddboxers who treated us to their homemade Tepache made from rescued Oddbox pineapple skins!

Emilie took care of the dessert alongside Molly from Team Oddbox, serving up a scrumptious apple crumble and a mango cheesecake 🍎🥭

Chicory gets a bit of a bad rap for being bitter, but char it in a pan and it becomes a whole different story.

Pan-searing caramelises those leafy wedges, turning them soft, tender, and slightly sweet before nestling them into a rich, comforting lentil ragu. Perfect for turning a lesser-known veg into a proper weeknight winner.

Rescue Stats ⚽
You helped us save 682 tonnes of fruit and veg from going to waste this month. As Charlie worked out, that’s about the same as 7,255 Erling Haalands.

Rescue Highlight 🎃
Adèle’s favourite item from this month’s boxes was Kabocha squash. She’s cooking hers up into a squash mac and cheese – you can find the recipe linked in our bio.

Grower Spotlight 🌽
This summer’s hot weather has had quite the effect on loads of crops. Heatwaves are really tough on loads of plants, but luckily, crops like sweetcorn, courgettes and beans have thrived, creating stacks of surplus that we stepped in to rescue. Pete’s got the full scoop.

We’ve rescued loads of wonky carrots recently, and what better way to use them up than with these harissa honey-glazed carrots?

It turns humble carrots sticky, sweet, and gently spicy, served over warm herby lentils with raisins to catch all those gorgeous pan juices.

We're on the telly tonight!

Tune into ITV1 at 7:30pm to see our co-founder, Emilie, visit @barfootsuk —one of our amazing growers on the South Coast. When you’re focused on rescuing as much fruit and veg as possible, it’s always great to get into the fields and see the magic happen first-hand.

The Barfoots team have been working hard growing courgettes, sweetcorn, beans and more throughout our hot, dry summer. Needless to say, they’ve come up against some real challenges thanks to the drought and the baking temperatures, but luckily, some of their other crops have really thrived under the intense sun.

Cabbage is finally getting the main character energy it deserves. No longer just a side dish to your Sunday roasts or thrown into a slaw.

On Tuesday evening we headed to South London to celebrate our ten year anniversary - we even had a birthday cake.

Oddbox started in Balham, so it felt like the perfect place to get together with our founders, our growers, our charity partners and loads of lovely Oddboxers. We toasted to the past ten years of doing good, looked ahead to the future and enjoyed some truly odd entertainment - but best of all, we donated the equivalent of 10,000 meals to @we.are.felix , who rescue food from going to waste and get it to people who need it most. Swipe through for a flavour of the evening.

On top of that, you helped us raise a brilliant £1,036 for Felix - you bought every single raffle ticket we had! Thanks to everyone who made the night a special one. Here's to the next 10 years and, of course, the next event. by @oddboxldn
