So hey, here's some good news to close out the year (lord knows we need it, what with *gestures around) - I humbly and graciously and cuss free asked for a grant to fix up the Dragon of Ell Pond and the good folks at @melroseculturalcouncil said "Go forth and prosper!" So looks like the first project for next year is on the books.

HEADLESS DRAGON UPDATE!

A handful of people have hit me up about the Dragon of Ell Pond so I might as well pin a post on it.

Currently it doesn't look like I can fix the dragon, at least not without a good chunk of personal time and money. There's a significant amount of rot at the top of the torso which was made worse by the massive ant infestation from the prior year.

I am, however, trying to see if I can get funding for 2026 and make a bigger, better dragon. What I know about giant wooden monsters now versus five years ago is pretty goddamn big. So fingers crossed the proposal is accepted and we'll see what the next year brings. And if not, you'll be the first to know. Maybe second.

Will keep the head (I have it at my house). I always loved how that turned out.

Gentle reminder (to me as well as you) that this is in fact the social media presence for my side hustle and not a travelogue for Irish funerals, Vermont universities, and Ohio stoner rock festivals.

Apart from the two Rational Vinyl builds, it's been unfortunately quiet on this front. Hopefully I'll wrap up a too long in the tooth project this weekend and get back to making giant wooden monsters. The past four days surrounded by friends and artists and artist friends has me jonsing to create. It's the best kind of itch.

In the meantime, here's Razor Hoof, one of four sculptures I made last year for the #melrosecreaturequest. You can find him at home away from home @hannahsbrewingco (first two shots were from the backyard). Pretty sure next year will see a lot more of these builds instead of full monsters.

Music by @horseburner who played at the aforementioned festival. They crushed it. Goddamn.

We went up to @universityofvermont to see @3kittensinatrenchcoat this weekend and imposed upon neighbors extraordinaire @markerelli and @pollyerelli to watch Milo and now this damn dog is giving me plans for a deck. Bruh, take a number, I got other shit to build first.

Seriously though, good neighbors, good friends, and Leo is second on my list of favorite dogs. Mark's pretty good at this music thing too. He should make a go of it.

(Speaking of the to do list, after I go have stoner rock fun at @emissionsfromthemonolith next weekend, I'm going to finish a long in the tooth commission and then get started on something rad for @cityofmelrosema and @melroseculturalcouncil)

@cathbrodigan, you were taken from us too goddamn soon. You were madly loved by all and you're leaving a hole in this universe that will never be filled. Thank you for everything.

Hey, happy birthday to Boss Lady Hotness @kerrypegorarofineart! Love you, lady person!

We'll be in Boston all day today, spending a mortgage payment on seafood and booze, so if you see us congratulate the best goddamn wife n mother on another successful trip around the sun. Also, go to her website and buy some art. taken in Melrose, Massachusetts by @oddpegswoodworking

"Rational Vinyl 2" (2026)
Cherry

Got a commission for a second record cabinet shortly after I made the first one, this time in 100% cherry. I figured I might as well be fancy and give the design a name, so I asked my pals in @sasquatchrock if I could steal the title of the lead track off their 2017 "Manuevers" album. They graciously agreed and lo and behold the "Rational Vinyl" series was launched. If you're interested in one, you know where to find me.

Hey, it's Father's Day! Weird to think that I've been a father for 18 years (and a couple of months) and all this time I haven't been able to shoot the breeze with my dad and trade war stories about parenting and/or woodworking. He'd have loved his grandkids and he would've been a hell of a grandfather. He'd also be envious of all my sick power tools. Boo.

Be well, all, and take care of yourselves. Enjoy the day and your families.
