Come on England! That sounds a little sarcastic perhaps considering this clip of, what the BBC described as ‘the worst football team in England’ but in 1975, the under 14s Addiscombe team were pretty dreadful. Hopefully the boys in Atlanta will do a little better this afternoon by @offbeatfilm

OffBeat is back! We have had some time to recuperate post-festival and are now ready to resume our regular programming of amazing British docs at Walthamstow Trades Hall and SET Social. And what better way to get back into the swing of things than to screen one of our all-time favourite documentaries, Marc Isaacs’ Lift (2001), which is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary of its release this July. The Walthamstow event on the 20th has been cancelled but Peckham on the 23rd is still all going ahead for this very special summer OffBeat screening! Clips from the beginning of the 1969 BBC documentary - Craghead Colliery: A Year In The Life. The whole thing was recently put up on the BBC Archive YouTube channel and I would definitely recommend hunting it down. They seriously don’t make em like this anymore (documentaries and people too (perhaps)) by @offbeatfilm

It’s been a few days since we last posted and I think that mostly that’s just because we needed a little bit of time to recover from the OffBeat Folk Film Festival 2026. It was such a lot of work to pull off but it was AMAZING and we loved every second of it! The festival spanned 25 events across London where we screened 78 films, exhibited nearly 90 artworks for a two week open art exhibition, hosted morris dancers, took over working men’s club, delivered workshops and talks, hosted a maker’s market and had Gwenno performing at Cecil Sharp House. It was epic. And we just wanted to say an enormous thank you to everyone who came (nearly 2000 people!), and everyone who took part - all the contributors, the artists and the filmmakers who made it possible. We absolutely love doing what we do and the reception we have had from it has been incredible. Apologies for not tagging anyone, there are just so many people that I would almost definitely leave someone out!We can’t wait for next year’s festival but, in the meantime, keep an eye out for more events in London and, soon, Cornwall, and elsewhere ! An enormous thank you and congratulations to every artist that exhibited and submitted work to this exhibition, to all of the event collaborators, to Mike and Rita of @offbeatfilm for the amazing work they are doing providing opportunities and platforms for such a diverse field of creativity, to @wilfridwoodsculptor for his visceral eye and curatorial sights, and to every single person that visited 🫶What a whirlwind!
