This is the the last day of Mental Health Awareness Month. We're joining @missforgetmenotak and @official.mindmatters to share that
#mindmatters how we contribute to bettering our own mental wellness. Arctic Cactus is my side gig, my side coin. It's actually part of my way of bettering my mental well-being. My career is having a full time private practice as a licensed psychotherapist in Alaska and Texas. My specialty is perinatal mental health and new parent couples therapy. I've heard it say that if your job involves mental load, to destress using your physical body and vice versa. Creativity through creation of makeup is grounding for me. I love what I do, both in the office and at my home factory. Doing well, while doing good. 😊 Also, I do ABSOLUTELY no work on Saturdays. It's hard at first, but it's a necessary thing to recharge and launch yourself into wholesome productivity for the week. I highly recommend it, it's how we are made. We need intentional rest. Veterans are at a 58% higher risk of suicide than those who haven’t served.

This Memorial Day, check in with those in your life who have served in the armed forces. We thank and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice of giving their life for our nation. Simultaneously, we must protect those who are still with us- those who hold on to the memories of friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been lost.

Please help raise awareness of this vital issue by sharing this information: the veteran crisis lifeline can be reached by dialing 988, then pressing 1.

Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Month 2025! I created my community service initiative Mind Matters five years ago as a platform that focuses on student mental health advocacy and education. As a titleholder, my goal is to be a voice for those who have felt silenced by the stigma surrounding mental health. This is especially important to me because Alaska presents startlingly high rates of suicide. This month, and in the months to come, I encourage you to remember that it’s okay to not be okay- help is out there. Even if you don’t personally struggle with mental illness, you can contribute to the fight to end suicide by sharing resources, checking in on your loved ones, and being open about your own mental health. As always, but especially during this month of awareness, I want to remind each and every one of you that your mind matters. by @official.mindmatters

Get to know me! Here’s the basics of what make me who I am as a titleholder:
❄️ I am a lifelong Alaskan and resident of Anchorage

🎓 I’m using my scholarships earned through MAO to attend the University of Alaska Anchorage seeking a bachelors in Journalism/Public Communications

👑 This is my 11th year of involvement with the Miss Alaska Organization

🧠 My community service initiative is called Mind Matters and focuses on student mental health advocacy and education

🫶 I’m an active member of UAA’s Tri Sigma sorority

🎶 The fine arts have been a central part of my life since the age of 3 and for my talent I sing

This is Sycely Wheeles, signing on as your Miss Forget Me Not 2025!

I’m so excited to be taking on this title, forget me nots have always been my favorite flower in addition to the official flower of my home state. I can’t wait to return to the Miss Alaska stage and serve my community as a local titleholder.
