Some surreal 10's

I've been work shopping this idea since the summer, always had it in the back of my head and finally got around to executing it. Had a lot of fun putting these together by illustrating the players and photo manipulating the backgrounds.

1- Diego Maradona in the 10 for Boca in his second stint at the club
2- Ronaldinho in the 10 for Brazil during the 06 World Cup
3- Roberto Baggio in the 10 for Italy during the 94 World Cup
4- Hidetoshi Nakata in the 10 for Parma in the early 2000's
5- Zinedine Zidane in the 10 for France during the 04 Euros
6- Jay Jay Okocha in the 10 for Nigeria in the 98 World Cup
7-Carlos Valderrama in the 10 for Colombia in the 98 World Cup

Every two years, the African continent blesses us with the best international football tournament. This year was no different, I've been really enjoying AFCON, so I decided to draw some of my favorite moments/players/stories from the group stages.

It's a real shame that they opted to make the tournament every four years after the next edition in 2028, all in a time where UEFA and FIFA keep adding pointless tournaments and games so that European teams and federations keep making more and more money. It's a joke.

Ricardo Carvalho ⚪🔵

One of my favorite defenders of all time and someone whose name isn't mentioned when talking about the great center backs when it absolutely should be.

Really happy with how this composition came out, swipe through to see the individual illustrations of Ricardo alone as well as the thinking and process behind all the elements of this piece.

Liverpool Premier League sketchbook, GW5.

Not the best of games but important to go into a long break with a win, especially when everyone bar City dropped points. Isak 4 goals in 5, 3 clean sheets in a row, can't complain too much.

Isak's a Red, olé olé.

Gouache on paper, so happy with how this one turned out.

Only team to set sail through the (B)ermuda triangle and make it out with 3 points.

Ink and oil pastels on paper.

Colors (titanium white, ivory black, cadmium red, yellow ochre and ultramarine blue) and brush used for the painting.

Estádio do Dragão, a digital painting 🐉🔵⚪

I've used these oil impasto brushes on portraits before but never on architecture, pretty pleased with how this turned out.

The frame uses the same azulejo tiles that I designed and rendered in Blender for my Carvalho piece from last year.

And a little noodly boy that just wants to watch the game hangs above the stadium, super fun to paint.

In Ali’s eyes (🇫🇷/🇬🇧)

Ali doesn’t just draw football. He digs into it. From Liverpool to Baggio, the Lebanese artist known as @OfficialBagface turns football into a playground for research, obsession and visual excess.

We met one of the coolest artists in football and one whose perspective comes from far beyond Europe and South America. taken in Beyrouth , Liban by @officialbagface

Liverpool Premier League sketchbook, GW4

A very french spread, disappointing result after a good win in the Champions League midweek, almost as if not strengthening the depth of the squad could take a toll on results in all competitions. Onwards and upwards.

Gouache on paper hero painting of Jacquet who I thought had an excellent game, one of the very few players to do so.

Ink and colored pencils doodle of a frustrated Bradley Barcola. Me too, man, me too.

Colors (titanium white, ivory black, cadmium red, yellow ochre, and ultramarine blue) and brushes used for the painting.

Liverpool Premier League sketchbook, GW3

First win of the season and Alexander Isak has finally arrived. My favorite spread I've done so far, super difficult to try and paint the smallest details in the face on a tiny portion of an A4 paper, really pleased with how it turned out.

Took a 6 months hiatus from gouache and now we're so back. Had a lot of fun with these in August.

Liverpool Premier League sketchbook, GW2

Horrible first half, better second half and a shambolic penalty decision. Boy, I sure am glad that the Premier League is back.

#liverpoolfc #lfc #wirtz #gouache #smsports

Gouache on paper portrait of Wirtz, picked this reference with difficult lighting on purpose, happy with how it came out.
