9th January 2022. Exactly a year ago. Our first digital awareness session. In this village, located in Gondia district of Vidarbha. Where our friend Milind grew up.

Through Chinese whispers, we tried to understand misinformation. Through news clippings, we exchanged incidents from the digital world which we had personally witnessed. A teenager in the village described how he used social media to mobilise help during an emergency he faced. We tried to process what it all meant. To each of us. Digital as such was not new to them. Few of the women worked as computer operators in the panchayat samiti.

Games, singing, laughter, and of course, the POHA and CHAI served by the local women's group who had invited me there

To a 15-year long friendship that called for a late night catch-up last week. Thank you for completing class assignments on time and generously lending it to needy ones. :P

I was invited to participate in a seminar titled 'भारतातील असंगठित श्रमिकापुढील समस्याचा डोंगर : काल-आज-उद्या ' today, alongside 15 others from diverse fields/sectors/backgrounds.

Spoke for about 7 mins in a mix of hindi and marathi approaching the topic from a gender and technology lens, keeping away from any occasional English rescue words, especially in analysing tech impacts on welfare schemes.

Other speakers in this particular round included an anganwadi worker and an ASHA worker, both of whom described extremities in workload and financial stress exacerbated during this pandemic.

The most impactful speaker of the day was Kantabai, a domestic worker and leader. She made the shortest speech, won everyone's love and attention and simply disappeared thereafter, presumably to continue her work in people's homes by @offlineactivist

Kamla ji sitting beside me as I sing O Ri Chiraiya. Year 2017. This was on Women's Day. Mumbai. I remember just how delighted she was.

Thinking of 'tod tod ke bandhano ko', 'husband kehta hai', of her many, many songs...

Thank you for fuelling my imagination. For teaching me the power of songs.

RIP
