‘Janani’ - a film by Flavien Kressmann and Sarah Des Rosiers

We are excited to share that our short documentary ‘Janani’ won best collaboration at the One Day Doc contest of the Art of Documentary and is now available to watch!

'Janani' tells the story of a social activist navigating the new demands of motherhood and her desire to continue bringing social change into the world. As she fights to maintain her voice and purpose beyond domestic life, she embarks on a reflection on what it means to be both a mother and a changemaker.

We met Janani in Basel and we were immediately drawn by her story and beautiful voice. A passionate anti-corruption activist in India, she continues to carry her fights through blogging and building community here in Basel.

Thank you to
@offlineactivist for opening your doors for a day to us
@zikali_production for the beautiful original composition and sound remix
@theartofdocumentary for the support, feedback on the film, nomination and inspiring community of filmmakers

And thanks to our community for watching!

Our film “Janani” created with @sarah_desrosiers_ , featuring @offlineactivist, has been nominated in two categories in the One Day Doc Fall 2024 competition (held by @theartofdocumentary). Best Collaboration, and Best Film.

That's the 4th time I've participated in this One Day Doc competition (with 3 nominations, and won Best Film once with my film Late Frost).
This year, I really wanted to push the collaboration, and asked Sarah if she wanted to join me in the process.
Sarah actually contacted me a few months ago to see if I could help her on her own project.
The collaboration pushed me to sharpen and share my vision, and Sarah definitely helped me to fine tune every single detail in the pre production, take some distance during the filming day to be sure we had all the needed shots and support my ups and downs during the post production, always staying calm and positive (believe me, it was not the case for me!).

Janani is a very inspiring human, and I'm so happy that filmmaking made us cross our paths. I was so fascinated by her vision, goals, doubts, that I put a lot of pressure on my shoulder to make the film she deserves.

And finally, having a place for mothers to share their doubts, difficulties, hopes and vision was my first goal, and I think Janani is a perfect example, that, I'm convinced, will help other mothers to find their own path into motherhood.

Winners will ne announced on the 12th December, congrats to all participants to this contest, and good luck to other nominees!
