Thank you to @thefamilybehindgirlscouts and @bookpublicityservices for one of the best non-fiction books I’ve read in a long time. Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts in 1912. Daisy came from two successful and influential American families. This book is a 200 year history of those families. Being a professional genealogist, this book hooked me from the beginning. For those who don’t do genealogy, this is still an astounding book. The research is impeccable. It was a walk through American History. I loved that none of it was sanitized to make people look good. History is not clean. People are not perfect. Daisy, as the founder of the Girl Scouts, is the one whose legacy has continued. If you like history, are human, like genealogy, or were or are a Girl Scout, you need to read this book! by @offmybookshelf

I read this for a remote book club that I’m not a member of with @verdict_is_in_booksta

Inspired by the true story of an au pair who k!IIed the children she was hired to take care of. I had to let this sit with me a bit because the true story is horrific and so is the fictionalized version. We start with the crime scene. There is no question about who did what. We are then taken through the investigation. There are plot holes. We are left with questions. That’s what nailed this book for me. When we see horrible events on the news there is never a neat and wrapped up package. There are theories. There are pieces of information. Yet, we will never fully comprehend what happened. We can’t enter the mind of the perpetrator, nor do we want to. We will never know the final thoughts of the victim. Even if we think we want to, I’m not sure we do. This book deserves every award it received. The only thing that was missing for me was more perspective of the parents. Solid 4.5 ⭐️ by @offmybookshelf

Today I attended the first book bash hosted by @basecampbooksandadventure. @bannedwagonbooks & @roadrunnerbookshop were there! I bought books from local authors @christopher.m.salas @andrewingram88 @author_georgehayward @brians.converse @themindedchef @gabriele_illustrations and Jimmy Sena. I bought treats from @batchpleaseco and @thecupcakedoctor. Lines were long-camping out to buy concert tickets long. I had a blast! Loved seeing @thebookgeekfrau. Joe organized an amazing event! by @offmybookshelf

Instagram proved how small the world is. @beccasullivanbooks was brought to me by the algorithm. I saw her photograph and screamed “I know her!”. Well, I knew her and not well. She didn’t know that I liked her and would prefer to hang out with her than who I was hanging out with. I was young and insecure and didn’t say what I should have. For that I am sorry. That being said, I am so glad the algorithm brought her to me. She has two published books and I am ecstatic for her! Today I’m going to her book signing. Her books are not my usual genre but I am excited to read them and to support a very cool person. Hubby was also excited for her. BTW, she also is the photographer of the most amazing wedding photograph that I have ever seen. by @offmybookshelf
