Skateboarding in the ’90s wasn’t just a sport — it was identity, rebellion, friendship, oversized jeans, beat-up shoes, downtown spots and kids creating culture without even realizing it.

THIS is what made skate culture feel real.
Before algorithms.
Before content creators.
Before every brand tried to copy the look.

One of the most influential photographers to ever document skate culture, Jonathan Mehring captured an era where style came naturally — baggy denim, oversized tees, worn sneakers and individuality shaped an entire generation before trends were manufactured online.
These weren’t outfits made for the internet.

This was everyday life.
Not just skateboarding.
A whole way of living.

NAUTICA

Born in 1983, Nautica brought sailing-inspired style from the water to the streets.
In the ’90s, the oversized polos, jackets and bold color blocking became part of hip-hop style.

If you wore Nautica, you liked your classics oversized.

ENYCE

Founded in NYC in 1996, Enyce came straight out of the golden era of urban streetwear.

Baggy denim, oversized tees and bold logos made it impossible to miss.
If you knew Enyce, you KNOW ’90s streetwear.

MECCA USA

Founded in 1994, Mecca USA became a staple of ’90s urban fashion.
Big logos. Oversized fits. Loud graphics.

You weren’t trying to blend in.

PELLE PELLE

Marc Buchanan founded Pelle Pelle in 1978, but the brand became a hip-hop icon through its oversized leather jackets.
By the ’90s, a Pelle Pelle jacket wasn’t just outerwear.

It was the whole fit.

TRIPLE FIVE SOUL

Born on New York’s Lower East Side in 1989, Triple Five Soul mixed hip-hop, skate and downtown NYC culture.
Relaxed silhouettes and utilitarian details defined the look.

Downtown NYC before everyone wanted the look.

Italian luxury met pop culture.
Iceberg became known for putting cartoon characters and bold graphics on high-end knitwear.

Hip-hop took notice.
Luxury, but never boring.

AKADEMIKS

Founded in 1999, Akademiks arrived right as hip-hop fashion was entering a new era.
Oversized denim, graphic knits and big branding became part of the early-2000s uniform.

Late ’90s energy. Peak Y2K loading.

WU WEAR

Launched in the mid-’90s by the Wu-Tang Clan, Wu Wear was one of the first major clothing brands created by a hip-hop group.
It turned music fandom into something you could literally wear.

Which one deserves a spot in every vintage collection?

These brands built cultures.
From hip-hop to skateboarding, workwear to music, these names helped shape another side of an entire generation.

Swipe through.

Polo Ralph Lauren 1993

Polo crossed far beyond prep culture. Worn by New York’s Lo Lifes and embraced by hip-hop, Ralph Lauren became one of the most influential looks of the decade.

Starter 1992

Starter jackets became one of the biggest status symbols of the ‘90s. Sports, hip-hop and streetwear all collided under one iconic logo.

JNCO 1995

JNCO took oversized denim to another level. Their ultra-wide leg jeans became icons of skateboarding, alternative culture and late ‘90s fashion.

Dickies 1994

Originally built for workers, Dickies found a second home in skateboarding and street culture. Durable, timeless and effortlessly cool, it became a staple of ‘90s style.

Wu Wear 1995

Created by the Wu-Tang Clan, Wu Wear helped pioneer artist-owned fashion brands, proving music and streetwear could become one culture.

Karl Kani 1991

Known as the “Godfather of Urban Fashion,” Karl Kani became one of the first brands built from within hip-hop culture. Oversized denim, bold graphics and relaxed fits helped define early ‘90s streetwear.

Cross Colours 1990

Built around the message “Clothing Without Prejudice,” Cross Colours celebrated diversity through bold colors, oversized fits and one of the defining aesthetics of early ‘90s streetwear.

Girbaud 1994

Do you miss when the streets were the social network?

Mid-late ‘90s, New York.
Before the hype, there was Lafayette Street.

Supreme wasn’t really a store.
It was a place to meet.
Skaters, artists, filmmakers, photographers, and kids with nowhere important to be would spend entire afternoons hanging around the same few blocks.
Nobody was thinking about building a brand.
It was just a place to chill, skate, and hang out with friends.

Some memories are worth keeping alive.
