“This piece is an opportunity to celebrate the ways in which young people in this school learn and celebrate each other and support each other. And, [it] gives all of us who are viewing it an opportunity to learn about what feels special about this school community.” - Artist @oh_sabeedee 💜

🌟 “Together, We Care & Create” was created by Sabrina Dorsainvil (@oh_sabeedee) for Beethoven Elementary School in West Roxbury. Sabrina led sessions with the school community to learn about the ways that they uphold the values that are important to them: learning, joy, inclusivity, and creativity.

🖼️ The resulting mural features four scenes inspired by the school community’s ideas and the students’ drawings!

“Together, We Care & Create” is one of 10 murals (with more to come!) as part of “A Canvas of Culture”, a @cityofboston initiative bringing public art to @bostonschools.

This summer @isenbergprojects invited me to paint a 30-foot tall, outdoor mural for a daycare in Kendall Square Cambridge, inspired by the theme: “I want to be a scientist when I grow up.” This is by far the tallest piece I've done to date and did not come without challenges along the way. So, I'm excited to finally share it and celebrate my curious, clever, and creative niece, Nylah, as the star of it. Seeing her face beaming with joy on the first day of kindergarten—with her colorful beads framing her face—reminds me of growing up myself. She inspires me everyday and I hope this piece inspires the next generation of creative thinkers and future scientists.

Thanks to IP for having me and to my amazing friends @koreepiphany12 @itsmetananana @a.d._plus @wandyrafaela @christoff_err who helped this piece come to life, rain or shine! Special shout out to the children and families who checked in on the process daily, used it to discuss their own science knowledge, and shared their love of painting with us. They are a reminder for me of why public art is so special.

Morning all. Sweet little reminder to “Take Care” today. Also swipe for my goofy face from last year when this piece in Blairsville, PA was a wrap.

Looking back on the year so far. My hands helped me grow a garden, support a friend in need, celebrate little moments, paint murals, eat well, make art and so much more. Onwards. #birthday by @oh_sabeedee

You have two more days to see my piece “Arriving” at Boston City Hall. Last time I shared this piece it was at MassArt, a formative place for me BUT it’s even more wild to see little me and my feels on display at a place that I spent such 7+ years developing a perspective, taking a stand, jumping into action all while feeling the weight of the needs of Bostonians. It’s a lot to take in and during this opening I was reminded why this piece means so much to me.

Appreciative of @marianarrey for curating. Grateful to be surrounded by other past and present @boscenterforarts studio residents. To those who have taken the time to welcome this part of my practice with tenderness and curious — thank you. (🫂 @spandexical01 )

Go check it out if you haven’t and see the other amazing artists work!

Introducing Sabrina Dorsainvil (@oh_sabeedee), one of the incredibly talented artists bringing a new mural to @bostonschools through @cityofboston’s public art program “A Canvas of Culture”! 🌈🎨

➡️ Swipe to see Sabrina’s mural, “Together, We Care & Create,” come to life at the Beethoven Elementary School in West Roxbury.

✏️ At the beginning of the design process, Sabrina led three sessions with staff, students and caregivers to brainstorm possibilities for the piece (see some of the students’ ideas on the last slide!).

😊 The resulting mural features four scenes, each representing ways that students and community members uphold the values that are important to them: learning, joy, inclusivity and creativity.

I’ve been a bit quiet on here but there’s so much work to share. Until then…

Thank you to all the new friends and those who have been here for years. Today marks me making it to my mid 30s and I don’t know how I managed but I know I’m blessed and filled with gratitude. Honored to paint my heart out AND work in collaboration and support of so many organizations and communities through design strategy work. I’m in a new neighborhood, in a new home, making new work and in the midst of turning new chapters of my life. Thank you for everyone who has taken a chance on me. I’m looking forward to more.

The world is heavy but keep your hearts open. Much love.

WIP alert! Things are hectic but I’m so grateful to have started my mural season in Lawrence last week. I’ve always wanted to return with a paintbrush and I’m honored to bring more characters to life here.

Cheers to takeout containers getting a new life, this funky green and celebrating mini moments of access and familial joy with these characters.

Big thanks to @elevated_thought & @sawro for keeping me in mind and making this happen 🥹
