I’ve wanted this jacket all my life and I can’t tell you why. Well I can try. There’s usually a reason for wanting…a person probably, a film, a show, a photo I kept.
My guess is it’s herringbone wool for starters, big country house vibes, cut like a golfing jacket that mods wore.
Then my love of vintage labels makes this Pure New Wool a 70s design. So now I’m in my Ysl tweed quilted bomber and flares dreamscape.

I want to keep it but here goes….. A herringbone Harrington cut jacket in a size small, coming to Outside online. 😭 by @ohadorned

Boldoduc Marchand sold clothes in France from 1900 to 1990. Their tag is still sewn into this Rosa Paris coat..jet black wool, A-line piece of joy from the 60s or early 70s.

The small things I like. The stitching isn’t just holding the fabric together. Someone made this caring about how it looked up close. Outside is online. by @ohadorned

Ahhh the Cowichan. Hand knitted, thick undyed wool with bold patterns from the Cowichan tribes in Vancouver.
One Cowichan knitter called it survival as it kept families fed when the colonial rule made it difficult any other way. Coast Salish women were weavers before contact was made and when a Scottish woman landed in the 1800 she brought knitting with her. The people took that and built something of their own out of it. It’s been passed down for over 150 years and underpaid all the way, then copied at scale. In 2011 Canada finally recognised it as historically significant.

Through the 80s and 90s it carried into counterculture, a piece of anti-fashion worn outside the mainstream. I remember them being worn in the early mornings in derelict warehouses and have loved them ever since, long before I knew what they meant.

This harder to find black Cowichan style has a Flash zip, a Canadian brand from the 40s, which makes it an early piece. by @ohadorned

Not using this word lightly. It isn’t an insult for people we don’t agree with. It’s the ideas. The ideas about who belongs and who doesn’t, who gets kept in line and whose voices are kept quiet. It has a history and it has a habit of coming back in new clothes,
sounding all reasonable at first. #fascistscantdance by @ohadorned

•LIEF GUEST•

Introducing @ohadorned

‘Oh Adorned exists because other people made it possible before it was anything. That’s the most political thing about it. They want you small and quiet and still and over it and they want you managing it all alone.

Dressing like you have somewhere to be is a way of refusing that.

Adornment over accumulation means nothing gets made new that doesn’t have to be. Most of it has already had a life, sourced or brought to me from people’s own wardrobes. What I make new, I make because it didn’t exist yet, like Fortunate Souls, built for long nights and longer days with a phrase on the sole only the wearer will find.

It’s all finished by hand in London and none of it is made fast. It’s for people who were told to pick between looking good and doing good and thought, nah..’ by @ohadorned

I design in London and if I’m honest, I think in London too. Everywhere I imagined stocking was somewhere in town. But Lewes has been on my mind recently as a town that hasn’t followed the script, a bit like me. A way of doing things its own way and @liefcollectivelewes feels like that too. Fortunate Soles has just dropped on their shop floor, my first stockist outside London. So exciting! by @ohadorned

I’ve had so many women prop me up. @thebungaloo is one of them.
Trying to decipher anyone’s creative ideas is a minefield and this is what it looks like. Six months of naming and claiming a brand, endless versions of a word, whole goddam name changes in the dead of night. Should it be a continuation of the last brand you did for me, should it feel soft or strong, more political, more loud. Is it caps or lower or a mix of both. Is that font too briefcase. Is it me… Should it be? Who am I.

Sarah my friend, wonderfully weird, the type that will catch you with your mouth open, a wild woman that held me pranging out with such grace, as we went back and forth on the tiniest move on a myriad of reds.

That’s the part not seen when looking at a finished brand, all the versions that got killed to get here.

Oh adorned exists in its current form because of Sarah and her creative process. Thank you 🖤 by @ohadorned
