What a wonderdul surprise to be amongst this incredible list of 25 Bridge builders. Forever dedicated to building bridges across the roughest of waters, and building solidarity, and community all in the name of truth, justice, and resistance.
Tikkun Olam indeed....when w fight for truth and justice it is always to heal and that healing must be universal and intersectional.

I am humbled to be included in the education category alongside such luminaries as the Presidents and Vice Presidents of post secondary institutions.

I truly believe all in all, that we are all educators in our own ways, no professional certificate needed. What we say, How we Act, what we Do, all set the foundations for those watching and learning.

Teaching, learning, mentoring, growing, and struggling, all within the same cycle of all of our hours.

When we invest in education...we invest in everyone. by @ohanasj

Another special celebration for Özgün Gündüz and "Burcu’s Angels"! 🎬

Today, KDocsFF hosted a screening of "Burcu’s Angels" at KPU Surrey, followed by an engaging filmmaker discussion celebrating the conclusion of Gündüz’s four-month Emerging Filmmaker in Residence program, in partnership with the Sundar Prize Film Festival.

Since winning the 2026 KDocsFF Best Emerging Filmmaker Residency Award at the Sundar Prize Film Festival, Gündüz has continued to enjoy multiple screenings, accolades, and growing recognition for her powerful documentary celebrating queer history, community, and belonging.

Congratulations, @ozzozgungun, on your continued success! We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and look forward to seeing where your filmmaking journey takes you next.

A heartfelt thank you to Professor Emeritus Greg Chan for hosting today's event and for his dedication to mentoring, nurturing, and supporting Gündüz throughout her residency. We are grateful for this meaningful partnership between KDocsFF, KPU, and the Sundar Prize Film Festival!

Congratulations to my racial equity colleague, Adriana Ramírez, an internationally renowned educator who truly provides guidance and mentorship to so many second-language educators across multiple languages.

It is wonderful to see her celebrated for her innovative approaches to language education, but also to recognize that she has been one of the incredible educators who have helped build the grassroots movement for racial equity within the Surrey School District.

Congratulations, Adriana! So very well deserved! ❤️

When I'm back in my classroom, I will share the ways I use my walls to amplify the voices of youth who push back against systemic issues, often through work created by marginalized communities, so that we do not perpetuate colonial narratives.

One of my many posters.

The propensity of racialized capitalism to push narratives of vertical charity, and even empathetic philanthropy, does very little to move us toward justice.

We need to transform power structures and redistribute wealth, meaning truly redistributing the power and agency that wealth brings, by transforming the structures that govern access to fundamental human rights, including housing, healthcare, and more.

We must always remember this when fighting against the human-made constructs of poverty and insecurity.

Resilience must be partnered with resistance if we are to dismantle the systems that perpetuate injustice. by @ohanasj
