Another special celebration for Özgün Gündüz and "Burcu’s Angels"! 🎬 Today, KDocsFF hosted a screening of "Burcu’s Angels" at KPU Surrey, followed by an engaging filmmaker discussion celebrating the conclusion of Gündüz’s four-month Emerging Filmmaker in Residence program, in partnership with the Sundar Prize Film Festival. Since winning the 2026 KDocsFF Best Emerging Filmmaker Residency Award at the Sundar Prize Film Festival, Gündüz has continued to enjoy multiple screenings, accolades, and growing recognition for her powerful documentary celebrating queer history, community, and belonging. Congratulations, @ozzozgungun, on your continued success! We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and look forward to seeing where your filmmaking journey takes you next. A heartfelt thank you to Professor Emeritus Greg Chan for hosting today's event and for his dedication to mentoring, nurturing, and supporting Gündüz throughout her residency. Some moments deserve an encore! 🎬✨ We're revisiting the unforgettable third annual Sundar Prize Film Festival through a special collection of highlight reels captured by our talented festival videographer, Cindy Bourguignon. And what better place to begin than Opening Night? There's something special about the moment a film festival comes to life. The red carpet fills up, old friends reconnect, new faces arrive, and everyone gathers for the stories waiting to be discovered. That's exactly how we welcomed the third annual Sundar Prize Film Festival at the North Delta Centre for the Arts on April 23, 2026! 🙌 Our Opening Night Ceremony introduced the festival's theme, "Home Is Complicated, So Are We," and set the stage for four days of courageous storytelling, community connection, and meaningful conversations. Under the opening program "The Weight of Silence, The Power of Choice," audiences were introduced to "Love Train," "Home Is A Feeling," "One Day This Kid," and the feature documentary "Saints And Warriors," exploring themes of identity, belonging, cultural survival, and the courage to speak our truths. More than just an opening ceremony, it was a reminder of why we gather around cinema in the first place: to listen, to learn, to celebrate, and to see the world through someone else's eyes. 💛 Here's a special look back at the night it all began! 🎥 Filmed and edited by @immersion_en_vue. #SherPride #QueerinColour 🎃🍂🍁 Join us for a Halloween-themed session on something a lot of us carry every day, the masks we put on as queer folks moving through different spaces. Code Switching: The Masks We Wear Sunday, 18th October, 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. Room 405, Surrey Libraries - City Centre Maybe it's dialing down how you talk, softening how you dress, or thinking twice about who you hold hands with, depending on who's in the room. These masks usually show up for a reason, safety or basic survival, but wearing them for too long takes something out of you. We'll sit with that together, talk about what the switching actually costs, and what it might feel like to set the mask down. Come as you are, mask included!

DELTA PRIDE SOCIETY STANDS WITH SHER PRIDE Re: CALL ON ELECTION CANDIDATES TO TAKE A CLEAR STAND ON SAFE ACCESS AROUND B.C. SCHOOLS Organization endorses call for consideration of a 50-metre safe-access zone while affirming freedom of expression, civil liberties, human rights and the safety of students, families and education workers. DELTA, B.C., October 6, 2026 - As British Columbia communities continue to grapple with questions surrounding protest, public expression and safety around schools, Sher Pride is calling for thoughtful leadership that protects democratic freedoms while ensuring students, families and education workers can access schools without intimidation or harassment. As we enter election season, we would also like to hear clearly from all candidates about where they stand on this issue. Concerned citizens deserve the opportunity to understand how those seeking public office would navigate the important intersection of frecdom of expression, public safety, civil liberties and human rights. We hope to hear leadership grounded in truth, transparency and an understanding of the protections afforded to every person under our Charter and human-rights laws. Whatever our political perspectives, Icadership must engage seriously with both our democratic freedoms and our shared responsibility to protect the dignity, safety and human rights of the communities we serve. Protect protest. Protect dialogue. Protect democratic expression. And protect our children, families and education workers from intimidation and harassment. Human rights are not barriers to democracy. They are foundational to it. “In the name of safety and leadership that protects human rights, I want to see political representatives do everything within their power to protect our communities from all forms of harm—including misinformation, intimidation, harassment and hate speech. Our schools must remain places where every student, educator, staff member and family can enter safely and with their dignity and human rights protected,” states Sher Pride President Annie Ohana.

From the first welcome to the final applause, what a day! 👏 Today, the North Delta Centre for the Arts came alive for the second annual Sundar Prize Luminaries BC Culture Days celebration, bringing together film, storytelling, learning, food and community. 🥳🙌 We began with a beautiful welcome and song from Elder Ruth Mary Adams of Tsawwassen First Nation. Her presence was especially meaningful at this time, as we join the Tsawwassen First Nation community in mourning the tragic loss last week. The day featured an engaging filmmaking workshop, meaningful conversations, powerful films, a stacked panel discussion, red carpet moments, door prizes and a delicious lunch from Honey Combz Catering. We were also pleased to welcome Delta mayoral candidate Dylan Kruger, Joe Muego of Delta School District 37, and all three of our 2025 BC Youth Storytellers Contest winners, Kexin "Coco" Chen, Jane Ifunanya Diokpo and Wendy Shenglin Zhang. Most of all, thank you to our Elders, North Delta Centre for the Arts, Moving Images Distribution, sponsors, supporters, planning team, media team, volunteers, Sundar Prize alumni, special guests and every person who chose to spend their Sunday with us. Thank you for showing up, sharing the space and making it so special. 💛 Sundar Prize Film Festival is an official project of Sher Pride (est. 2008) www.sherpride.ca www.sundarprize.com Support our work: www.sherpride.ca/donate #sundarprize #sundarprizeluminaries #bcculturedays #northdeltacentreforthearts #delta
