Life lately 🇸🇦🇦🇪🇶🇦

* The Middle East is unapologetically excessive and proudly extra.
* A night owl’s paradise - only mere peasants (like me) work in the mornings, everything opens around 1pm to sunset until 12-4am. No one walks outside (again, except me) and I constantly get stopped asking if I need a taxi.
* I am forever exhausted and forever confused what day it is because their work weeks are from Sunday to Thursday.
* Al Baik is the best. Period.
* Going from an alcohol-legal country to no alcohol to alcohol back to no alcohol, really makes you want a drink.
* Someone will serve you Arabic coffee at least once a day.
* There is art randomly everywhere and it’s all beautiful.
* Experienced my first rainfall in Jeddah aka casual flooding which shuts the whole city down but it all disappears the next morning and it’s business as usual.
* This is an extremely family-oriented society: being single here is worse than North America because there is no “dating” culture lol
* UberEats has nothing on HungerStation/Noon/Doos.
* Gas is 40 cents/litre or less.
* The traffic is like no other: it is socially acceptable to cut you off, drive the wrong way, create 5 lanes in a 3 lane road, but miraculously I haven’t witnessed a single car accident.
* The safest I’ve felt in any country.
* Getting lost, stranded, derailed, blocked, inconvenienced, and regular power and data outages are a normal way of life, even for the locals. taken in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by @ohheytrish

Who needs birthday cake when you have birthday pho? 🍲

Happy grand opening day to the world-famous @thelunchladytoronto 🇻🇳

But really, don’t sleep on the desserts! The food was delicious but the desserts were shockingly good and not-too-sweet.

*Pho spiced old fashioned
*Vietnamese horchata
*Off the menu: focaccia with scallion butter, pate and pickled vegetables (shoutout to @mrwillwong for this secret menu item - it was sooo good like a deconstructed banh mi)

*Bò tái chanh - Beef carpaccio
*Phở bò wagyu - Wagyu beef pho
*Bò lúc lắc - “Shaken” steak with cassava
*Chè ba màu - Three layer dessert: pandan sticky rice cake, coconut condensed milk gelato, strawberry red bean puree, mung bean streusel
*Tiramisu cà phê - Viet coffee tiramisu

2024 was the worst year of my life: the year I almost died, the year of constantly being ill, the year of needles, surgeries and medical appointments, the year I physically and emotionally lost a part of me, the year I had my heart broken in multiple ways, the year filled with only flickering moments of happiness but so much love, the year where all I did was survive. taken in Montreal, Quebec by @ohheytrish

It was a Cruel Summer but The Best Day in the fall 🍂

Night 4 of #TheErasTour
It was rare, we were there…

Scrambled to put together a surprise bachelorette for my favourite Swiftie bride in less than 72 hours 😓

After months of me getting no where with contests, joining the Swiftie discords, refreshing Ticketmaster and still unable to get into queues…the Eras gods blessed @aliza225 with an amazing opportunity for tickets. She cancelled her planned bachelorette and we had the time of our lives at our second Taylor Swift concert together 🥹 We sat in a box suite, exchanged friendship bracelets, took shots of tequila, met some new friends, and of course sang with Taylor! Did you know her parents wait backstage after every show? It was so heartwarming to witness that moment (pssst a cameraman was following her so maybe it’ll make a doc - see 17th slide).

Josh is a lucky man and I am the luckiest friend to have you in my life - since we were 22! 💕

Are you ready for it? Happy week 2, N4 of the Eras Tour, #Tayronto! Celebrating one of my Swiftie bffs tonight at the concert 💍

Featuring Taylor’s chai cookies from her November 2014 Instagram post. I added extra chai spices for added flavour and depth.

You can easily tell my favourite era is #Fearless ✨

It took a week to recover after this photo, worked out of my bed 90% of the time, but I had to get up for my 15th #TIFF.

10th year working festival and a full circle moment back to supporting independent film 🎥 What a decade it has been 🥹

Being sent to a cancer centre and having major open surgery was not on my 2024 bingo card. Having two surgeries within three months was not the plan.

This time, last year, I was experiencing one of the happiest periods of my life, personally and professionally.

It is astounding how much can change in less than 365 days. In the weirdest twist of fate, my efforts to be proactive with my health went awry. The mass grew rapidly to 24cm. Everything I was trying to avoid in my previous post, happened. The craziest feeling is when you think your life can’t get worse and then it suddenly does. I have now learned to prioritize my peace.

I’ve lost track of the number of times my blood has been drawn, my body being poked, prodded, injected and scanned, the anxiety-inducing emails and phone calls, and all the medical appointments with doctors and specialists.

All it took was one doctor to believe in me and immediately sent me to the emergency room instead of continuing treatments or waiting for a referral which could’ve taken months. Though she worked within a for-profit clinic, she prioritized my quality of life. She quite honestly, probably saved my life. Little did I know how serious this was and began a series of emergency room visits at different hospitals too scared to operate on me and chronic abdominal pain. Navigating the Canadian healthcare system was a nightmare but I’m grateful to have had the support of Dr. Jennifer Hulme, Dr. Shirin Dason, Dr. Christina Ince, and my nurses. Women’s health is so minimized, under-researched and overlooked, but only you know your body best. You live in it.

I have learned more about the female body through stories from internet strangers and social media in this short time than I knew in my entire life. Advocating for myself has been a difficult process, but my gut feelings were right every time. I am lucky to have been in the care of such confident healthcare professionals because it could have been so much worse if I waited any longer. It was only when they opened me up, they realized that my blood supply was cut off and I was indeed living with a dead organ for who knows how long? I was right.
