My child is 1 in 6.

Mental health effects us all. It can be especially gut wrenching when our child experiences it.

Whether you are a parent, teacher, grandparent, aunt or uncle, our children are often our greatest pride and joy. They are our future. We love them, raise them, teach them, laugh with them, play with them and nurse them back to health.

As protectors, we want to do everything we can to keep our little ones happy and healthy. But unfortunately, genetics, society and trauma all play a major role in the development of mental health conditions, and children are not exempt.

Studies show that 7.7 million youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year—that’s one out of every six children in the U.S.

Like this post if you love someone who who struggles with their mental health, and here’s your reminder my sweet friend, you are not alone! #endthestigma #childhoodmentalhealth #adhd #anxiety #momlife #adhdawareness #adhdmom #mentalhealthmatters #momsofinstagram #reelsinstagram #reels #instalike by @ohkelliana

As parents, there’s a lot we worry about. Worrying about school shootings shouldn’t be one of them. Unfortunately, it is.

Since Henry was old enough to understand, we’ve had a plan. Yes, my 10-year-old child and I have a plan if a shooter comes to his school. Let that sink in for a minute. And when it does, ask yourself…am I okay with the reality that American children are sent to school in?

The one where, on any given day, someone could do the unspeakable at their school? The one where a 5-year-old is practicing an active shooter drill? The one where parents tell their kids what to do if a shooter comes?

Because that’s a reality I’ve never been okay with. And yet, here we are—again. Each side will point a finger at the other, and we’ll be right back here because we can’t get out of our own way and put American children first.

If you’re not okay with school shootings, that’s our common ground. Next, we work toward solutions, even when they don’t look exactly like what we want…because changing something this systemic will take everyone working together.

Introducing George Pierre St. Cloud šŸ˜

Georgie is a 12 week puppy who was rescued by @sammys_animalrescue earlier in September. Upon rescue it was determined that his right front leg needed to be amputated. From that moment on, it felt like we were destined to be together. Thank you to @saracate27 for opening your heart and home to dogs in need, and making them feel seen, known and loved.

We are smitten, welcome to the family sweet boy. You are loved! @gomattcole @mckenzielcole @lincolnjmcole taken in Ridgefield, Washington by @ohkelliana

You don’t have to love every part of your body to care for all of it. šŸ¤

Day 3 of Confidence Rising: Listen to your body.

Today, pause and ask: ā€œWhat would help me feel cared for right now?ā€

Then choose one small thing: rest, something to eat, comfortable clothes, a stretch, or movement that feels good.

Your body deserves care today, exactly as it is.

What’s one way you’re caring for yourself today? ✨

Your inner critic has had the mic long enough.

Day 2 of Confidence Rising: Change the conversation.

Today, notice how you’re talking to yourself. When a harsh thought shows up, ask: Would I say this to someone I love?

ā€œI’m terrible at thisā€ might become ā€œI’m learning, and I can ask for help.ā€

We’re practicing being kinder to ourselves in a way we can actually believe. One thought at a time.

What’s something you could say to yourself more kindly today? šŸ¤ taken in Ridgefield, Washington by @ohkelliana

I could use a little mindset reset. Maybe you could, too. šŸ¤

For October, I’m bringing back a little of Confidence Rising…small daily actions for self-love, confidence, and caring for our whole selves. I’m doing this right alongside you.

Day 1: Give yourself some credit.

What’s one thing you appreciate about yourself that has nothing to do with how you look? Your humor, your determination, the way you care for people, it counts!!

Finish this sentence:
ā€œOne thing I appreciate about myself isā€¦ā€

Share below or keep it just for you. Follow along in my Stories for each day’s prompt. No catching up or perfect streaks required. taken in Ridgefield, Washington by @ohkelliana

I’m so excited to share that I’ve stepped into the role of Interim Executive Director for Ridgefield Main Street.

In many ways, this role feels like the place where two important parts of my life come together. For nearly two decades, I’ve worked in leadership, marketing, brand strategy, public relations, and storytelling—leading people and organizations to better understand who they are, connect meaningfully with people, and turn ideas into action.

Alongside that professional work, my involvement in the community work has shown me the power of bringing people together around a shared purpose. It’s given me the opportunity to use my experience in service of something deeply personal: strengthening the community I call home.

Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside our former Executive Director Marykay, an incredible Board of Directors, dedicated volunteers, downtown businesses, community partners, and so many people who care deeply about Ridgefield. That experience has only strengthened my passion for this work and this community.

I’m grateful to our Board for the confidence they’ve placed in me during this transition, and I’m proud to continue building on the momentum already underway: supporting our downtown businesses, strengthening community partnerships, and connecting more people to the heart of Ridgefield.

This is a new chapter, but it also feels like the culmination of so much of what I’ve learned, built, and cared about throughout my career and community work.
I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead and truly honored to serve this community in a new way. ā¤ļø taken in Ridgefield, Washington by @ohkelliana
