💔 Book Review 💔

Strangers by Belle Burden

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - You all know I love reading a hyped book, and this one deserves the hype. The details of this memoir seem too wild to be true, but it’s fact (ish) and not fiction!

Picture this: it’s the start of the pandemic and your husband of 20+ years leaves you. You’re left to navigate the earth shattering reality of a divorce and the pandemic for you and your kids alone.

Despite Belle’s privilege and wealth, the book is still relatable because she’s honest about her thoughts and feelings during this time. You feel like you are right beside her through the rollercoaster of emotions.

Everyone experiences highs and lows in life. There are people who support you and ones who talk about you behind your back (although for most of us it’s not at a fancy country club at our summer house). It’s deeply unsettling to learn that you never really know someone even if you’ve spent 20+ years with them. But ultimately you can always depend on yourself 🤍

✨ Go girlll, it’s your birthday ✨

I’m interrupting my normal posting rotation (or lack there of) to be grateful for another year around the sun! Life has been busier than ever, so I’ve been spending less time on my phone. But my birthday felt like a good time to pop back up to say hi because I miss you all and Bookstagram 🤍

I started my day off eating my favorite donuts with my best friend, mom, sister, and nephew 🍩

I blinked and another year went by! I can’t believe it’s been 4 years of talking about books, Bravo, and now Heated Rivalry with the best internet friends 🤍

As much as I love the book recs, the people are my favorite part about this space. From book clubs to random chats to my weirdest Hinge messages, I love this little community 🥰

🚀 Book Review 🚀

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Let’s start this year off with a review of one of the best books I read last year. It’s beautiful, it’s gut wrenching, and it’s emotional. It absolutely lives up to and deserves all of the hype!

On a side note, I love that TJR isn’t churning out multiple books per year. You can tell all the research that went into this book, and it made me want to savor it as I was reading.

Go into it blind: just knowing it’s about some of the first women going into space. Have your tissues ready because it will get you (see last slide) 😭

🫎 Book Review 🫎

Any Trope But You by Victoria Lavine

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I gave into the hype around this book, and I was not disappointed! Sometimes as a romance reader you just need a book that’s easy and gives Hallmark and this is it! It’s set in Alaska with a lot of snow, so it’s the the closest thing to a holiday romance you are gonna see from me this year 😂

Margot is a famous romance author who gets cancelled after her readers find out she doesn’t believe in the happily ever afters that she writes about. Her sister decides to send her off the grid to Alaska for 6 weeks. When Margot gets to Alaska she realizes that she is out of her depth not only because she’s not the outdoorsy type but also because the proprietor of the property, Forest, is every romance trope rolled into one hot lumberjack who happens to also be a doctor (Dr. Mountain Daddy) swoon 🥰

This book is also short, so you could easily read it in a day during your holiday break or save it for your next poolside vacation!

📖 Q3 Wrap Up 📖

Q3 was another good quarter! I binged a couple of series, which was so fun! For those of you with kindle unlimited and even if not, I recommend both The DC Stars (hockey romance) and The Bourbon Boys (bourbon distillery/ranch romantic suspense) if you need a series to binge!

Doing these videos is always so fun for me because it reminds me how many good books I’ve read. I’m guilty of forgetting most books as soon as I finish them 😅

🤠 My Cowboy Romance Rankings 🤠

Giddy up! You know I love a cowboy romance, so I finally decided to rank all the ones I’ve read. I like my cowboy MMCs to be grumpy, spicy, secretly sweet, and bonus points for a single dad. I like my FMCs to be strong, sassy, and badass.

This is not a comprehensive list. These are just the ones I have read (and a couple I haven’t read because they aren’t out yet)! I’ll spare you from my individual book reviews, but you can find them on my Goodreads!

My favorite from each series is marked with a cute little pink cowboy hat! Heartless will always be my #1 overall for ever and ever 🥵

📚 Mini Book Reviews 📚

Life has been busier than ever this year, and I haven’t invested as much time in this account as I would like! Since I’ve been posting less, I thought we’d catch up with a few mini reviews for some of the books I enjoyed this summer ☀️

The Bodyguard - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - The perfect easy, quick, funny yet emotional, predictable, heartwarming, feel good, hallmark worthy book! For my closed door romance lovers, this fake dating, forced proximity, love triangle is for you!

These Summer Storms - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Another forced proximity romance with a whole lot of family drama! This is a good one to break up a string of cheesy romances. The sibling rivalry is already off the charts when Alice returns home for her father’s funeral. Only to find out everyone has been given a specific task in order to get their inheritance, and it gets even worse because everyone has to complete their task or else no one gets the money.

Hoax and Kisses - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I loved this one! Spice in chapter 2, enemies to lovers, autism representation, burly/grumpy/small town man…what’s not to like?! We had the honor of Elodie coming to the @booked.with.allie book club. It was so fun to get insight into her writing process and how she balances it with her full time job!

Wild Card - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I didn’t know how I was going to feel about the ex boyfriend’s dad trope, but it worked in this one. It has forbidden love, forced proximity (I’m sensing a trend with these tropes 😂), and so much Clyde! The most annoying part was Bash being immature.

P.S. I Hate You - ⭐️⭐️ - Unfortunately I didn’t like this one 😬 The FMC was sooooo whiny. It ruined the entire book. I know a lot of people liked how the characters dealt with grief, the brother’s best friend trope, and second chance romance, but I was not one of those people.
