Eva and I were walking along the beach in Jūrmala on a beautiful summer day when we noticed a woman sitting alone in the sand, drawing spirals.

The spiral has been our symbol for years. It means something very personal to both of us. It’s something infinite, something that always finds its way back to itself. We use it a lot, so whenever one appears somewhere, we notice.
We talked about it for a moment.

Some time later, the same woman came up to us and introduced herself. Her name was Saskia. She was visiting from New York, where she teaches at a film university. We talked, laughed, and at some point she asked if she could take some photos of us on film.

Months later, these photographs arrived in our inbox.

I don’t really know what I believe about signs. But I love the idea that sometimes life leaves little threads between people and places, and every once in a while you get to notice one.

We’re so pleased that next Thursday afternoon photographer Vincent Cianni @cianniv will be coming to the Light & Color class at @micaphotophotos to talk about his recent two volume publication, “Archive/Journal: 1985-1995/2001” @daylightbooks

This work brings together the personal and political with so much heart. Volume 1, “Archive 1985-1995,” reproduces 80 black-and-white photographs of the NYC Pride marches during the height of the AIDS epidemic. Volume 2, “Journal: 1985-2001,” features personal narratives from Cianni’s journals and visual stories of lovers and friends who were living with or who died from AIDS, reflecting on his journey with HIV and his experience with activism surrounding HIV/AIDS from the same period as the Pride photographs.

I was like could it be? when I saw Criss in my peripheral since I’d photographed him the summer before and remembered he’s from the Bronx and I was sitting way down at the end of Brooklyn. by @ohsaskia
