On Thursday, August 14, photographer Regina DeLuise will present her work at “Meet the Artist,” led in conversation by photographer Saskia Kahn. DeLuise and Kahn will discuss the nature of large-format and palladium picture making, sustaining a photographic practice over decades, and DeLuise's experience of publishing her first monograph, "The Hands of My Friends" (Saint Lucy Books, 2024). Through this book, DeLuise brings to light her long-held belief that “loving what you love will lead you to your life.” Books will be available for purchase.

Guggenheim Fellow and Faculty Emerita at Maryland Institute College of Art, Regina DeLuise has worked with photography for four decades. Her work is represented in many private and public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Smithsonian Museum of American History.

DeLuise has exhibited her work nationally and internationally since 1990. She was the 2018 Meredith Moody Fellow at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY. Her work was included in "Migrations and Meaning(s) in Art," curated by Dr. Deborah Willis in January 2020, and she has had two solo exhibitions in New York City, 2022 and 2024 at Rick Wester Fine Art where she is currently represented. DeLuise’s first monograph, "The Hands of My Friends" was published by Saint Lucy Books in 2024.

Saskia Kahn is a photographer and educator based in Baltimore, MD. She earned her MFA in Photography, Media, and Society and is a Professor of Photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, and BmoreArt, and exhibited by NYC Parks. Kahn’s practice blends portraiture and alternative processes to explore themes of memory, displacement, and the connections between people and place.

"Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from The Arnold & Augusta Newman Foundation.

The Robert W. Deutsch
Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s Rubys Artist Grants. This cycle, the program
will provide $255,000 in direct funding to 15 artists in Baltimore city and
county who are working on innovative projects in Literary, Media, Performing,
and Visual Arts—as well as one $25,000 alumni grant to a previous awardee
and two material grants. By supporting new artistic endeavors holistically, the
Rubys aim to enable artists in Baltimore’s creative community to have
sustainable and successful careers.
This year’s recipients exemplify the program’s values
of experimentation, risk taking, and creative innovation. Selected projects
range from explorations of identity, sustainability, personal resilience, and
intergenerational perspectives to public archives, pirate radio and public
health.
