Yes, I sometimes shoot photos in the summertime as well.

These are from a gravel ride with @jaakkoposti and @janijohansen from last summer. Jani and I hopped on a @vrmatkalla train from Rovaniemi to Kemijärvi and made our way back along empty dirt roads.

Despite being a life-long bike commuter and having some previous experience with bikepacking, it was on this trip when I truly found the joy of riding bikes. The ability to cover great distances, cruising through beautiful roads and landscapes, ice cold sodas from a roadside shop, chatting with your friends along the way. Thanks for getting me hooked, Jani!

Oh, and the post-ride beer(s) never tasted better.

Went to Lyngen for a few days with @kumpulamarkus and learned some things. About myself, about snow, and definitely him, since this was our first time riding together.

Over the long drive and first days, we talked a lot and came to understand our respective approaches to the mountains and risk management. We were patient, progressed slowly towards more consequential terrain and stuck to our principles despite temptation – a greater success than some epic line in golden light, if you ask me. I’ll take less than perfect light over sketchy vibes any day.

Ahh, winter's just around the corner again. That's what I tell myself while gazing into the dark, cold and wet wasteland that some shit tabloid in the UK aptly named Crapland. Just around the corner!

The first video is one of my best runs from this winter. Soft, fast snow, a steep gully in the trees, my best riding partners in tow – it doesn’t get better than that.

Next up is the worst run of my life. Only days later, we fucked up. After a dry spell, we got too eager and climbed up a couloir despite suspicions. The first rider set off a shallow slab that kicked down. He got caught and went for a ride to the bottom. No serious injuries, but it could’ve been bad.

We were supposed to be smart, careful and conservative, so how did we fall for such an obvious trap? Fresh snow, high winds. Several days of sitting on our hands, new location, limited time. It’s surprisingly easy to walk into that situation against your better judgement. A lifetime of good calls won’t matter at that point, either.

So for next season, I have a really short tick list.

Last week, @williamforsby showed me a cool ridge on a familiar mountain. We could see most of the top couloir, but not the cornices guarding it. So we set up a belay at the top and could see the couloir goes, but it wasn’t the day for it.

Two days later, I returned with @annabellaforsby and we rappelled and downclimbed into the chute. We found stable, somewhat soft snow and decided to go for it. With no time to wait for better light, we made careful hop turns down the chute. Then it was another 800 metres of poor visibility, firm snow and bushwhacking back to the road. And another trip to the summit to retrieve our stuck rope.

Went to Tamok with reports of concrete snow and a grim forecast. Luckily for @leorosaurusrex and I, the expected 10 cm of new snow turned into 30+ at places. Taking care to avoid storm slabs and overhead hazards, we scored one afternoon of perfect snow and pristine weather. Sometimes it pays to roll the dice! taken in Norway by @oilinki
