Some thoughts 👇

I’m going through the archives and I cannot believe all the work I’ve created, exhibited and sold. And as of today there are several paintings missing too, lost along the chaos of realising the dream. I can’t even begin to unravel that thread.

I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve been so blessed.

The spectrum has been insane. I literally struggle to grasp all the cool and shtty things I’ve been fortunate enough to experience. I’ve had huge turnouts, massive sales, big crowds. All the way to no one but me in the room, drama, getting kicked out of shows, sometimes no sales for months while I tirelessly crank out as many paintings as I can and honestly the list goes on. I’ve even left halfway through the funeral of a loved one to attend a hyped up auction at a gallery as part of my solo. The organiser “overslept” in the gallery, I watched as collectors, fans and friends turned away from a locked door as I circled the block looking for parking. How messed up is that? 😂

But here I am, I’m alive, happy, healthy and fortunate enough to keep sharing my work, through the highs and the lows.

Thank you, I hope you come again ❤️

Thank you @houtbaygallery for your professionalism, lekker chats and happy collectors! It’s always such a massive pleasure to make the 2 hour trip down from Yzerfontein to be greeted with a good coffee and great vibes. Business with you truly is a pleasure. 👏

I have loved this gallery since the second I stepped foot in it many many years ago when being an artist was but a distant dream. I always said that if I can get into THAT gallery then I made it as an Artist. I’m happy that my persistent portfolio emails and visits eventually paid off and a bucket list item was finally ticked off.

You can find my work on the walls, alongside many other great creations from creators of all walks of life. Oh! And Sculptures in the garden. It’s a piece of paradise.

Happy Wednesday ☀️

So excited to announce OKAJ will be joining us at the Battiss Art Festival this year!!!

Bold, playful, and deeply expressive, OKAJ’s work invites viewers into a world where imagination meets emotion. His instantly recognisable characters, vibrant colour palettes, and striking symbolism explore themes of identity, courage, vulnerability, hope, and self-discovery.

Each painting tells a story, blending contemporary street art influences with fine art techniques to create works that are both thought-provoking and joyfully accessible.

OKAJ embraces freedom of expression, celebrates individuality, and reminds us that art has the power to challenge, inspire, and connect us.

Join us this September as we celebrate creativity, curiosity, and the fearless spirit of South African art.

Battiss Art Festival
24–27 September
📍 Walter Battiss Art Museum, 45 Paulet street, Somerset East

Come experience OKAJ’s remarkable exhibition, meet fellow art lovers, and immerse yourself in a festival where colour, imagination, and creativity come alive.

We can’t wait to welcome you.

These are the moments that make sense to me. It’s not always the fancy galleries, the travelling, the good times, the hotels or the fact that I get to follow my dream.

It’s the moments where I realise the weight of it all, where I get to face it and accept it. My mental illness struggle, the art blocks, the no sales months and the quiet reflections. These moments are what makes it so real.

I love this journey, more than I’ll ever be able to articulate.
