You did it ⚡️⚡️⚡️

You played it so much that DARLIN has hit 5000 streams in the first week of her life in the world!

Thank you to everyone whose been playing, sharing and singing along to Darlin this week 🤎

I am over the moon and in absolute awe of what is possible in this life 🦋🥹 taken in FrequentSeas by @okatiemilae

It was so surreal to hear DARLIN have her first radio spin on Thursday morning with @sarahinthehowells from ABC Sunshine Coast Music.
I didn’t expect to get emotional when I first heard it playing..

DARLINs been my little mantra that I’ve been playing in my bedroom, and in cafes and streets for the last seven years - reminding myself to get out of my head and have no fear in chasing my dreams: which is many!

There’s been heaviness and challenges in every corner of my life, with the load specially weighing heavier the last few years, so for me, to put aside money (slowly), whilst supporting myself independently through a degree in Chinese Medicine, and take myself off on a hectic independently booked and funded tour across 10,000km of Australia, and finally record DARLIN - was a huge feat for me, and somewhat a relief.

Releasing music is always scary.
You’ve poured thousands of dollars into a song that is likely to have no financial return or even praise, but you do it anyway for the love of creating and sharing with the universe.
But there’s something different about DARLIN, I know she’s going to go places, and I know the biggest place she can be is in someone’s spirit to help them get out of their heads and chase their dreams.

I’m really proud of me, and that’s a goal in itself.

I’ll make any excuse to come home to Adelaide 🤎

This was the place where music really lifted off its feet for me and made me think ‘maybe I could write a song?’ 🎵 its also the place where I had my first singing lesson at 6 and got gifted a my first microphone - a giant plastic echoing microphone from Santa, remember those? ⚡️

This October I will be heading home to South Australia to lap up time with my family & friends, and also play some incredible shows! And also head the central markets and McLaren Vale Cellar doors 😬

I’m bringing my bass-bae @nurainimusic along for the ride, where we will be groovin and stomping away to some Americana-desert-soul tunes - like you’ve never heard before Adelaide!

I’m so looking forward to playing alongside @ervnbabymo and @_ali_quinn in some incredible and intimate venues around South Aus.

Tickets are live! Head to my bio Linktree 🎟️
I’d truly love to see these shows fill up - so I can stop searching for another income source ⚡️ and also not break even.
Musicians solely rely on your support, to buy tickets, merch, spread the love and share our music 🤎
If I’m not your cup of tea, share this with someone else who would love a night out of story telling, honesty, lyrics that hit and music that shuffles your shoulders.

Help keep this industry (and me) alive!

Holy moly it’s been a time, but it always is!

I think this year I’ve been more of a flying duck, my feet don’t seem to touch the ground much these days, and whilst I’m absolutely exhausted, and wondering how I’ll get through the next leg of shows and travel on little sleep, I also know these adventures and personal milestones are going to be ones I look back on and wished I did more of ✨

The South Oz tour has been fast paced and full of life and memories, and I have muchhhh to update and share with you - including a new single! Eek!

Tonight’s my last show with @nurainimusic as she jets back home for a festival and I carry on for two more solo shows in Stirling and Aldinga with @thewildfolkpresents

If you’d like to come to tonight’s last duo show at @thejoinerywineroom , tickets will be available on the door 🪕🚌🌻 taken in Henley Beach Jetty by @okatiemilae

Goodness me, look at the time, how did October arrive so quickly?!

In 3 more sleeps, @nurainimusic and I take off via big bird to South Australia to begin our ‘South OZ’ tour!

We hit the ground running with our first show this Thursday night at @ern.malley with the groovy @ervnbabymo in Magill.
Friday, we borrow Dads car and camping gear, mums blankets and pillows, and make our way to Willunga for the @fleurieufolkfest for three shows across the weekend!
Sunday we refresh ourselves at the margarita bar @yonderaldinga ready for our first headline show together in Aldinga!

Then we recoup, hydrate, do some washing and get ready for our next run.. but I’ll tell you about those in a bit!

If your based in SA or have some friends, tell them about us, come support two indie chicks chasing their dreams together 🌻⚡️🤎🪩
Otherwise, enjoying watching from this side as we bring you along the journey!

We can’t wait!

Welcome to the very first Locals in the Loop Backyard Sessions, an intimate afternoon of live music, storytelling and community, tucked away under the rainforest on the Sunshine Coast.

For our debut session, we’re bringing together two incredibly talented local artists, Katie Milae and Christian Patey, for an evening of beautiful songs, acoustic sounds and stories as the sun sets into the evening.

Katie Milae brings her desert soul-stirring folk, with deeply personal songwriting inspired by place, travel, landscapes and the people she encounters along the way. Christian Patey blends acoustic and electronic sounds with a soulful voice, drawing on years of touring, collaboration and songwriting across Australia and beyond.

This is a BYO, all-ages, family-friendly afternoon designed to be enjoyed at your own pace.

Bring your favourite people, BYO chairs or picnic rugs, pack a picnic, bring your drinks and settle in for an afternoon of live music under the rainforest canopy.

📆 Saturday 7 November

One song. One lunch break. A touring partnership.

Katie Milae invited Nuraini to play bass on a song during a trip to Townsville. Over a lunch break, Katie says, Nu learnt the bass parts for almost the whole set. They’ve been taking their music down the road together since.

The Sunshine Coast artists joined Arts Garden during their South Australian visit to talk about the less glamorous craft of touring: lining up venues without zigzagging across the country, choosing people you can live alongside, and occasionally remembering to stop talking.

Their playlists take turns, too. Katie’s country-folk choices have led Nu towards cowboy boots. Nu’s music sends Katie somewhere she wouldn’t normally go. They’re hoping to find time to turn that exchange into writing together, with a European tour also in their plans for next year.

For now, the room matters. Katie prefers being close enough to meet people and see their faces. They look for venues that genuinely care about hosting artists.

“We don’t wanna be background music.”

We also heard Nuraini’s ‘Movers of the Light’ from ‘Luna’. A story her auntie told her about manta rays became a metaphor for stepping into your power and letting your light show.

I drove past one of my old homes today, here in Adelaide.
This once was my Mamas house, where I returned to after travelling overseas in my 20s, with an empty bank account and a knee needing reconstruction.
It’s also when I dusted off Lady Milae and committed myself to songwriting .

My first ever song Melancholy was written in this house by candlelight, during a 4-day long black out.
During last night’s gig at @yonderaldinga when I was story telling certain songs, I realised a lot of them were actually written here in Adelaide, or finished somewhere here..

Melancholy was written on my mothers couch,
Molasses Skies was written on the sand dunes of West beach,
Darlin began in Kupito Forest and finished in the caves of Willunga…
Ain’t the Man in my little Cottage on Rose Street..

Maybe Spring and returning home, might unleash some new lyrics in me 🌸🌳 taken in Adelaide, South Australia by @okatiemilae

POV: you’re flying to the same gig, the same destination, but at different times and on different flights.

One of us enjoyed a few more drinks,
One of us rolled with celebrities,
One of us had an aisle seat, the other one had their elbows bashed a few times by the coffee trolley..
