We’re so happy to bring you our October programming! We’ve got lots coming at you this month, be sure to check our events page for more information and to sign up!
We’ve got a tree planting this Saturday, October 3rd, join us as we get some more trees into our community! 🌳
October 6th we’re bringing back our pollinator distribution and pairing it with a planting demonstration! The demonstration is open to everyone, however, you must be an Adopt-A-Spot member to receive pollinators 🌼
October 7th we’re having our BIG Wednesday Workday! Come out to our office to help with tasks such as painting the OKCB office building, weeding the pollinator garden, picking up/unloading trees from Native Plants Nursery, prepping school garden supplies and more! 🌟
The following Wednesday, October 14th, we’re looking for volunteers to help prep our school garden at Kaiser Elementary for an upcoming pollinator garden build! 🦋
October 14th, we’re going to Second Story Books for our monthly Sustainability Social Hour! This month we’ll be chatting with Amanda Scofield, you don’t want to miss it! ♻
Saturday, October 17th, we’ll be planting our new pollinator garden at Kaiser Elementary and would love for you to join! We’ll be adding in a variety of native plants to the school campus! 🐝
On October 24th, we’re planting trees in Northwest OKC and we need some more hands to join us! On this day, we’ll also be planting our 10,000 tree as an organization. Come be part of this huge milestone with us! 🌲
October 31st, get spooky with us as we clean us the Asian District! We’ll be sprucing up the district with litter clean ups, graffiti removal, flowerbed maintenance and more! 🗑 by @okcbeautiful

We're officially moved into our new space! Thank you to all our incredible volunteers who've donated their time and resources to getting us moved in! We're putting up the final touches and unpacking the last boxes and this place is starting to feel like home 💚 Want to come by and check it out? Reach out and we're happy to show you around, we're planning some upcoming classes and a big open house here so stay tuned for that as well!

Last week, Earth Academy students visited Skyline for an engaging day of exploration and hands-on learning! Mickey led a tour of the indoor facility, including the Food Resource Center, Eye Clinic, and Style Shop. Students also explored food sovereignty with Travis, took part in an empowering discussion, and got their hands dirty learning about composting through sifting and top dressing the garden. 🌿

Thank you to the @innospec_performance_chemicals team for sponsoring last week’s tree planting project and distribution event!

Their team planted an orchard at our new community space, and through their support 50 neighbors were able to receieve free trees!

118 total native trees and shrubs were supported by this project, and over the next 40 years, those trees will capture 473,126 pounds of carbon dioxide, intercept 1,619,211 gallons of rainwater, and will create over 85,000 square feet of canopy.
That’s a huge impact on our community! Thank you again for being one of our tree sponsors Innospec!

🌎 Earth Academy is officially underway! 🌱
Last Monday, we kicked off this year’s program with an orientation where students got to know OKC Beautiful, learn about the goals of Earth Academy, and get a glimpse of what’s ahead this year.

Then, we headed to Native Plants Nursery, where Brian and Tammy shared their knowledge about the importance of native plants and their role in supporting healthy ecosystems. 🌿

Students also spent time nature journaling throughout the nursery, slowing down, observing the plants around them, and taking a moment to truly appreciate the beauty of the space. ✏️🍃

🌱 Did you know? Food waste is the largest single component of everyday garbage!

Composting keeps food scraps out of landfills and incinerators while giving them a second life. When added to soil, compost brings valuable organic matter, beneficial microbes, disease resistance, and so much more. ♻️🌎

We are so grateful to SSM Health for supporting another community tree planting project! This week, we teamed up to plant more than 20 native trees and shrubs at ReMerge, a phenomenal local diversion program that serves high-risk, high-needs mothers facing non-violent felony offenses. The addition of these plants and trees will add to the beautiful and nurturing environment that ReMerge has created for their moms.

SSM Health has been a great partner in our Tree OKC program, helping to fund and plant more than 150 trees in recent years. We are so grateful for their partnership!

Deadline approaching!!
OKC Beautiful is teaming up with neighbors and community organizations to plant 75 trees in Oklahoma City! 🌳 Trees are free to organizations, businesses, and neighbors in the project boundaries (Between NW 36th St & NW 23rd St and between N Portland Ave & N Meridian Ave) All trees are 5 - 7 foot tall, 5-gallon, 1/2" - 3/4" caliper. You can choose from the following tree species: Black Gum, Sawtooth Oak, and Eastern Redbud. The deadline to request trees is October 12th and all trees will be planted October 24th, weather permitting. This project is supported by the Joseph T. September lessons at our OKC Harvest school gardens have wrapped up🌱 Students across our four school garden sites have collectively planted over 1,500 seeds for our fall gardens! During these lessons, students explored the parts of a seed, investigated seed packets, and illustrated how to nurture a plant in their garden journals

Next month, we’ll observed our crops growing and learn about how plants grow and how seeds travel.

Northeast OKC now has 200 more trees, thanks to a grant from @arbordayfoundation and @internationalpaper! We are SO grateful for the stellar group of volunteers who helped plant with care and love for our neighbors this morning. And, these projects wouldn’t be possible without the neighbors who adopt these trees and commit to watering and caring for them as they grow. 🌳💚
