It’s the lull before the show…. In this quiet period before The Echo opens I’ve been reflecting on this new body work.

You can trace many repeated forms throughout the works. Though in actuality my fascination with these shapes began long before, i can trace one form back to a piece I saw on display at the Archeology Museum Istanbul a few years ago which I believe is the head of a double sided axe (slide 2). The second form (which I’ve come to think of as a star burst) stems from is traceable to drawings I made using a rubbing of the floor while hosting Drawing Salons for @the_canopy_program_ artists (slide 3).

I’ve called my show The Echo in part because formal echoes reverberate throughout the exhibition: an original source is repeated, transformed, and sent onward. This distinct visual lexicon jumps from sculpture to painting and back again. Flowers sprout from heads and lift into the air; an abstracted infinity sign appears frequently in the form of hourglass shapes, flowers, wings and more; star bursts and imagined galaxies endlessly expand ever outward. Considered carefully, the works simultaneously appear to shift forward and back in time. In my world the echo may in fact be a loop with no clear beginning and no definite end. Like a Möbius strip these works remain nonorientable, implying a future, a past, and an ever-unfolding present.

SAVE THE DATE … Loren Erdrich: The Echo opens October 30th @shrine.nyc ♥️

I’m especially excited about this show because it will feature my sculptural works alongside my paintings! I show my ceramic sculptures frequently in Europe, but this will be my first NYC exhibition dedicated to this part of my practice. Please come celebrate this new work with me!

MEET THE ARTIST

Loren Erdrich’s practice centers on material exploration and themes of transformation. While painting remains at the core of her work, she also engages with stoneware sculpture and drawing. In her paintings, she works on raw muslin with fluid, water-based dyes and pigments, embracing the unpredictability of the medium to blur the line between abstraction and representation. Figures and forms take shape gradually - bodies become stars, flowers flare into flames - suggesting an ever-shifting reality. The interplay between light and color on matte, layered surfaces draws the viewer into a contemplative state, inviting a slower perception of detail and light.

Loren Erdrich (b. 1978) is an American artist who lives and works in New York City. She holds an MFA from Buren College of Art, National University of Ireland Galway, and an BFA from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago, IL. Recent exhibitions include ‘Siren Song’ at Bricks Gallery (DK, 2025), ‘Light Escapes From The Body’ at Bricks Gallery (DK, 2024), 'Little Stars' at SHRINE (Los Angeles, CA, US, 2024), and 'FAINT' at Wasserman Projects (Detroit, MI, US, 2023).

‘You Little Rippa! Crème de la Crème’.

Building on a decade-long creative dialogue between @saint_cloche Founder and Gallery Director Kitty Clark and Australian artist and guest curator Saxon Quinn, the exhibition brings together ten internationally acclaimed artists connected through years of friendship, collecting and creative exchange. Spanning painting, sculpture and ceramics, it celebrates an expanded visual language influenced by skate, punk, graffiti and tattoo cultures.

“You Little Rippa [YLR] is a curated collective of international artists I have conversed with over the past few years,” Quinn explains. “Some relationships continue into ‘penpal’ status — convos about everyday life, family and more, becoming admirers from afar. Artworks are traded, and a number of works from artists in the show are permanent fixtures in my home.”

Featuring works by Colt Seager, Douglas Knesse, Hetty Douglas, Indiana Hoover, Julien Jaca, Loren Erdrich, Mark William Kilford, Sebastian Helling, Sune Christiansen and Zac Hoffman.
