We spent time in this episode chatting about different types of paint, what got him into the hobby, his experience with local painting competitions and what a positive mindset can do for peoples lives! Was definitely a fun episode!

On this episode of the Mini Bar, I sat down with a right proper chap by the name of @daemoninksstudios that just happens to one of the coolest Oldhammer folks Ive ever met... He also happens to be an amazing painter too! As per usual, we go over what got him into the hobby, random off topic bits about our favorite little metal and plastic men, what kind of paints he digs and the always welcome mystery question! Hope you guys dig this one, I had a blast with it!

Welcome to the Mini Bar podcast, where its always fun conversation about painting and random Oldhammer stuff! In this episode, I sat down with @crazymauriceminis who showed up on my radar last year during OldenDemon. He submitted an absolutely stunning 2nd edition Ulrik Slayer and it really caught my attention. Have been following him and his painting journey since... So this episode was awesome to do as we go over his story of what got him into the hobby, who his influences are, our obsessions with Kim Syberg and we take a dive thru his IG as per usual!

Hi all and happy Thursday! So its the week after Las Vegas Open and I wanted to make a full post about it all.

First up, the @verkosvault painting comp! I wound up taking medals for all 9 of my entries. I got 3 Iron medals for my Hornet diorama, Relg the Descender and Moonie bust. Took 4 Bronze medals for my Sisters bust, Space Pickle ,Dark Angel Captain and Blood Angel Chaplain. And finally, I took 2 Silver medals for my Ultramarines and Dark Angels squads. I was a bit frustrated with myself as I hoped Id do better medal wise this time around. But its a good indicator that I need to push myself harder to expand my skill set and level up over the next year. Keep in mind I am BEYOND thankful to have taken what I did, its a complete honor! My frustration is simply in self reflection as I am extremely hard on myself regarding my skill sets in life and its how I get better at what I do.

On Saturday of LVO, I brought my family with me! We were all enrolled in an "Intro to Painting" course and everyone had a total blast! The attached Caveman mini is what was supplied to us. I just kinda went off and did my own thing during the class. But Pepper and the kids really enjoyed themselves! Thanks to @jacksoncwestmoreland for hosting such a great class!

The rest of the day we bummed around LVO, checking out the vendor booths and such. I handed out a ton of OldGrumpyWolf shirts over the weekend and got to hang out with the always awesome @kahacollectibles for the first time! Was great to finally meet her in person! Huge congrats to the homies @voodoo6studios @thedorkdepot @greygobbo and @midnight.gh0ul for doing so epicly and taking medals in the painting comp! Was an honor to compete side by side with you all! Also, was epic finally meeting @lets_get_warhammered @dewbug42 and @figuratively_speakingminis in person! Adored chatting with you all! And a HUGE thank you to @monument_hobbies and @thearmypainter for your support in what I do! Wouldnt be where I am without what you make!

Anywho Ive gotta go do some actual work! LVO was a blast and so many great memories were made! Looking forward to next year. But as always, I hope you all have an awesome and productive weekend! by @oldgrumpywolf

Hi all and happy Thursday as always! Given all the normal Dark Angels troops are out of the way, I can finally start posting the more "fun" minis of the display!

Here is the Dark Angels Sarge model. He took a bit of restoration work. Ive had this guy since my teen years from way back in the 90s. At the time, I wound up cutting off his power sword and using it on a different mini. I snipped it off using large headed wire cutters and wound up messing up the sword hand pretty bad. I sat down and rebuilt said hand using half a plastic hand, some green stuff and a power sword from the 2000s Commander kit. Wound up pinning the sword in place so its a solid mount and wont snap off. First time Ive rebuilt something this detailed!

If you dig this neat lil green gothy lad, be sure check out my Grim Bright Dark Angels Painting Tutorial! It can be found on my ye olde toobs via OldGrumpyWolf (all one word). The tutorial covers how I paint my Dark Angels from start to finish and how you can achieve that fun Grim Bright style on your own.

Anywho, I hope you all like this lil Dark Angels bad lad I restored and my painting tutorial I put together! Today is the last day before Las Vegas Open, and I have a Sisters of Battle bust to finish. Down to her backpack which is nearly done! She will be my 9th and final entry in the painting comp. If youre at LVO, feel free to DM me to meet up! Ill have OldGrumpyWolf shirts and stickers to hand out. Ill be wearing one of my shirts at the show, HUGE yellow and white print on the back, so Ill be easy to spot! But, as always, have an awesome and productive weekend!

Hi all and happy Thursday! Heres the last normal Dark Angel for my full display!

As I mentioned last week, its coming down to the wire for LVO (that starts next Friday). Finished up Ezekiel at roughly 3:30am this morning. Will be sitting down to build the display base tonight for all the minis. Very much looking forward to wrapping up my full Dark Angels display! Has defintely been a challenge to get thru. Endurance test like crazy, especially with everything involved. Im really looking forward to taking a bit of time off during October as Im exhausted!

If you dig this neat lil green gothy lad, be sure check out my Grim Bright Dark Angels Painting Tutorial! It can be found on my YT via OldGrumpyWolf (all one word). Its covers how I paint my Dark Angels from start to finish and how you can achieve that fun Grim Bright style on your own.

Anywho, I hope you all like this lil Dark Angels bad lad and my fun tutorial I worked up! As always, have an awesome and productive weekend!

Hi all and happy Thursday! Heres another Dark Angel from the squad I painted up!

Not a lot to mention this week. Currently working on getting the accompanying Dark Angels character models painted up for the full display Im entering at LVO in Oct. I finally finished Azrael on Tuesday at way too late o'clock in the AM! His banner was like painting an entirely separate mini. Im currently working on the original metal Asmodai. Fortunately he and Ezekiel are mostly cloak, so Asmodai is going fairly quick... Which is a nice change over the uphill battle that was Azrael.

Dont forget, if youd like to check out my Grim Bright Dark Angels Painting Tutorial, it can be found on my YT via OldGrumpyWolf (all one word). Its a fairly indepth tutorial for how I paint my Dark Angels from start to finish and how you can achieve that fun Grim Bright style on your own.

Anywho, I hope you all like my Dark Angels bad lad and that my new tutorial helps with your own painting! As always, I hope you all have an awesome and productive weekend!

Hi all and happy Thursday! I am stoked to finally start presenting new minis as well as my snazzy new 90s Grim Bright Dark Angels Painting tutorial! Sooooo, ere we go lads! And yes, you get bonus points if you heard that in an Orks voice in your head ;)

So much like my Ultramarines, I never seriously painted Dark Angels until this little phase over the last month and a half. Took me an evening or two to come up with my formula for them good ol dark green lads seeing as finding a replica for the old Citadel Ork Flesh/Dark Angels Green wasnt easy. Thankfully, AK made something fairly close with their Black Green. AK Black Green doesnt have quite as much yellow in it as the old Citadel color did, but it did the trick! I also utilized AK Alga Green which is a replica of the old Goblin Green from Citadel that everyone loves.

But yeah, after figuring out my formula, I sat down and went to work on a 5 man squad. I saved the last mini for my painting tutorial. I found doing the first 4 minis is a great way of getting my formula working right and cemented in my brain! The video itself took a little over 2 weeks to make from start to finish. Finishing the Dark Angels tutorial rounds out the 4 major chapters on my channel. Feels good to accomplish a goal that took me 2 odd years to complete!

If youd like to check out said tutorial, it can be found on my YT via OldGrumpyWolf (all one word). This will be my last indepth tutorial for a while. I plan on making some short fun tutorials in 2027, including an update to my Blood Angels tutorial as Ive changed my formula for those red lads a bit!

Anywho, I hope you all like this old Dark Angel bad lad and that my Dark Angels tutorial helps with your own painting in some small way! As always, I hope you all have an awesome and productive weekend!

Hi all! Its the last of my "Throwback Thursday" posts for a while. I have finally finished up my Dark Angels painting tutorial and it is launching via my YT and my Patreon Thurs, Sept 3rd! So with that said, heres the full squad of my old Deathwing Termies hanging out together lookin all snazzy!

I was happy to dig these old guys out and show em off to the world again thru the last month and a half (plus they bought me all the time I needed to do my 5 man Dark Angels squad and complete the tutorial lol). When I posted these on Cool Mini or Not back in the late 2000s, I caught a lot of flak for them because the 90s Grim Bright style was very unpopular as the more gritty and realistic "Grim Dark" Eavy Metal style was the hot new thing! Im glad in modern times, Grim Bright painting is much more appreciated as an actual recognized and respected style!

Im super stoked to post the new Dark Angels painting tutorial along with all the minis I painted for it soon! Feels like it took me forever to finish, but I have to keep in mind that I painted 4 out of the 5 squad members before starting the actual tutorial mini. All in all, the tutorial took me 2 1/2 weeks from start to finish. Feels like an awesome accomplishment as all 4 major chapters will be covered painting wise on my YT and Patreon once the tutorial launches! Im looking forward to next week when I can finally start posting new minis again too!

Anywho, I hope you all like my old Deathwing Termie squad and thanks for the love everyone has shown them over the last month and a half... and as always, I hope you all have an awesome and productive weekend!

Hi all! This is my next to last "Throwback Thursday" for a while. I am finally into the editing portion of my upcoming Dark Angels tutorial. I should have it done and ready for release the fist week of Sept! But for now, here is the final member of my old Deathwing squad I painted up in the late 2000s. The good ol Captain! :D

As previously mentioned, back in the late aughts when I was painting this old bad lad up, I didnt have the confidence to hand paint any of his badging. Thankfully as time has gone on in recent years, Ive really pushed myself to up my game and hand paint smaller details like badging when required. Thankfully, Workshop has redone all of their transfers now to fit properly! But yeah, this old Captain is bare of markings... but oh well, just a small bit of my personal paiting history and somethinng to show for how much Ive grown painting wise. Also, please excuse any yellowing on whites and greys. This was due to Citadels old matte clear coat yellowing over the years.

Fun little factoid, though kind of sad. I wound up designing a really neat custom banner for him that I did in Adobe Illustrator. I printed it out, but never used it. Funny thing is, Ive still got it sitting in my storage box with these guys. Im glad Ive grown beyond a lot of my old bad habits as a painter in modern times so I dont make lazy mistakes like this anymore (as in, I see things thru to the properly now so as to properly complete all the projects I take on).

Anywho, I hope you all like my Deathwing Captain Termie... and as always, I hope you all have an awesome and productive weekend!

Hi all. Its coming down to the final few "Throwback Thursdays". Im well into recording my Dark Angels tutorial (just have backpack left to do) and for these last few weeks Ill be wrapping up showing off my old Deathwing Termie squad from the late 2000s. This week its back to a basic powerfist boi! Last normal Termie before my Captain and the full squad!

As Ive mentioned prior, when I painted this old Termie lad, I really didnt have the confidence to hand paint any of his badging. Kind of wish Id picked up the late aughts transfer sheets that actutally fit properly as GW resized everything. However, I dont have any plans on updating these old guys, though one day in the future I might paint up a new squad

Anywho, I hope you all dig my final basic boi Deathwing Termie! And as always, I hope you all have an awesome and productive weekend!
