You can be accomplishing a lot and still feel far from yourself.

UNBUILT: Becoming What Remains explores that distance: the gap between the life we present and the life we actually inhabit.

I wrote it to open a conversation about honesty, identity, accountability, and what it takes to live with greater alignment.

Lauren, congratulations on thirteen years sober today!!!! There’s SO much courage inside that sentence. Years of quiet, right choices, unwavering honesty, and showing up for life like a badass.
You’re my favorite human and I’m proud of you in ways a post could never hold. I see the heart you bring to our family and the care you give to the people around you. Sloane has an extraordinary mother, and I’m so grateful I get to walk beside you. I love you. Here’s to another year of the good life! by @oldkidhatch

Well babe, I really wanted to beat you today in posting. And I did not end up doing so.

Happy 3 years of living with me, putting up with me, keeping me alive, and all my craziness that’s included in that. I love you so much, and tho it’s only been 3 years of marriage I can’t wait to see what the rest of our lives will look like. The crazy ups and downs, the turns and twists; I’m so lucky to get to have you by my side for the crazy ride!
Here is to a lifetime more of moments memories and love! Happy Anniversary

Happy third anniversary to my amazing wife. Lauren, I love your generous heart, your fierce independence, and the quiet certainty with which you are yourself. Three years into marriage, I’m still discovering new reasons to love you.
Watching you with Sloane is one of the great joys of my life. She reaches for you with complete trust, and I get to watch the woman I love become the first shape of love our daughter knows.
In the middle of work, parenting, and full days, you’re still the person I want more time with. More laughter, more closeness, more of this life we’re making together.
You are so so beautiful to me. I love you, and I love being your husband. by @oldkidhatch

GRATITUDE POST ABOUT EAGLE CREEK

A few months ago, I traveled home with a client who had just completed treatment at Eagle Creek Ranch Recovery. His return trip happened to coincide with one of my visits to the facility, so we made the trip together. As we traveled, I listened to him talk about his experience. This was his fifth time in treatment, so he had more than enough experience to compare programs. But what he kept returning to was not an amenity, a particular therapy or something written in a brochure. It was the owners. He talked about how often he saw them. How they ran groups every week. How present and accessible they were. He told me that when the clients went to a local baseball game, one of the owners was there with his family.

What stayed with him was that they were not simply telling the men what a life in recovery could look like. They were allowing them to see it. He saw recovery expressed through presence, family, service, responsibility and ordinary life. The solution was not being delivered to him as a theory. It was being modeled by the people leading the program. You cannot bottle that up and sell it. You cannot manufacture it through branding or write it into a treatment manual. You have to see it. You have to feel it. You have to live in close enough proximity to it that you begin to believe it might be possible for you too.

Some facilities have more master’s level clinicians. Some have more elaborate gyms and larger campuses. Those things can matter. But after the better part of two decades in this field, I have never encountered another facility that gives a man a better opportunity to be exposed to the solution than Eagle Creek Ranch Recovery. Recovery is not merely explained there. It is made visible.

If you work in the treatment field and have the opportunity to help a man struggling with substance use disorder find treatment, I say this without hesitation: you cannot do better than Eagle Creek. I do not make that statement lightly. I believe it wholeheartedly, and I am profoundly grateful to be part of it. by @oldkidhatch
