Sooooo, that’s a wrap on the first year of the @theacademy Jonas Gwangwa Composition Initiative! It’s been an absolute blast this year and it’s been fantastic to meet and work with fun and talented people.

Now for my speech *clears throat*

A big shout out to the amazing @nainita_desai for mentoring me this year as part of the Initiative. Our conversations have been very transformative and I’m truly grateful for your guidance, thanks so much!!

Thank you @theawfc @ivorsacademy @universalmusicgroup @mercurystudios.co @abbeyroadstudios @tom_warriors @spitfireaudio and every individual who has taken time out of their busy schedules to help myself and @peteredwardsmus learn more about film music and the world it sits in.

It was also great to meet @hendersondp the director of @noteofdefiancefilm and watch the film on the big screen (will do an official post soon!) Thanks for having me write music for your film.

I haven’t won an Oscar but I’ve stood next to a massive one so, does that count?? 😂 Anyways, thank you all! Much love, Oleta x taken in Everyman Cinema King's Cross by @oletahaffner

Kinda wild I finished my Masters degree back in 2019! Things that have been consistent are my love for thematic writing and fantasy genre. And last year I got to put those loves to use with the BFG! by @oletahaffner

Improvising/ musical story telling over A Plagues Tale: Innocence

The game and its sequel has been a bit of an obsession for the past few months so have started streaming and playing the piano. The score by @oderiviere is fantastic and have been learning a lot about creative ways music has been used in the game.

Who’s excited for Resonance?

Here’s a snippet from the BTS for Aqua which is part of the Elemental Suite I was commissioned to write for the @jamstringcollective as part of their debut album She Looks Up at the Trees.

It has a great addition of @kayesmensah who wrote and performed the spoken word element to this piece.
