🎪 WHAT A WONDERFUL CORBFEST! ☀️🎪

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make Corbfest such an amazing celebration of our community, including our fantastic partners @corbettcommunitylibrary and @standrewscatford. So much time, care and creativity went into bringing the event together and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in making it such a success. 💛

A special thank you to our wonderful volunteers and helpers who worked throughout the day to make sure everything ran smoothly. Your energy, dedication and willingness to lend a hand made such a difference.

We’d also like to say a huge thank you to @singalongsally for bringing so much fun and energy with a fantastic children’ session. It was wonderful to see so many little ones joining in, singing and having fun.
A big thank you too to our beautiful choirs - @vocallective.choir and @soulchoirs - who shared their talents with us on the day. Your music was a real highlight and added something very special to the day.

We’d also like to say a huge thank you to all of our fantastic stallholders. It’s always so special to welcome local businesses and makers to showcase products and share local talents.

A big thank you to our café team too, for keeping everyone fuelled and looked after throughout the day. Your hard work was very much appreciated!

Seeing friends, families and neighbours come together, enjoy the activities and spend time with each other was exactly what Corbfest was all about. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did❤️☀️

Take a look back at Back to Basics!

🔥🔥🔥🔥

A few weeks ago, we had an epic Creative Futures industry networking event, Back to Basics, bringing together emerging creatives, industry professionals, and a packed room of ideas, advice, and inspiration.

Check out some photos of the action courtesy of Chief @keithsykes22.

Hosted by Lewisham Music’s @creative.futures.lm in partnership with @pcam_society, @prsformusic, and @cockpitstudios, the event created a space for honest conversations, practical learning, and valuable networking across the music and creative industries.

From practical sessions on music business, royalties and getting paid for your work, to deep dives into creative workflows, pitching and collaboration, attendees gained invaluable insights from speakers including Paul Reynolds and Becky Wix (PCAM), David Newton and Jataneel Banerjee (PRS), former Lewisham Music student and film composer Oleta Haffner, and Shumba Maasai (Plus Trbe Productions).

The event concluded with a lively panel discussion, networking opportunities and open decks DJing, creating space for new ideas, collaborations and creative connections.

It was a poignant reminder of why we do what we do - bringing creatives together to share knowledge, build confidence, and jump head-first into their own CREATIVE FUTURES!

BIG UPS to our Creative Careers Producer, Tilda and a huge thank you to everyone who attended, contributed and shared their expertise.

Keep an eye out for the next event and START CREATING YOUR FUTURE NOW!

Hey, have you heard our debut album "She Looks Up at the Trees"? It features a special collaboration...

In 2023 we were part of the @nucivilisation performance of "Focus" featuring Nubya Garcia. The first half featured a new work by composer, @oletahaffner and her awesome piece, "Chemy"!

We fell in love with it and spoke to Oleta about collaborating. We were awarded the Peter Whittingham developmental award in 2023, so thankfully we could get to work!

In discussing the direction for the album, we came up with the concept of the 'Climate Crisis', with a hope the album would help encourage continued discussion and awareness of our affected climate.

And with Oleta's film music background, she came up with a mood board and narrative for each of the four elements, and how they are affected by the changing climate.

For example, in ‘III. IGNIS’ we hear the flickering of small flames develop into large scale expansive wildfires.

And a peaceful rainforest scene depicted by a serene cello solo and bird sounds on the violin is violently shattered by aggressive 'Bartok pizz' and 'prepared' viola in 'I. TERRA'.

Hey new listeners!

We are J. A. M. String Collective 🎻

We are an improvising string trio, who started out playing jazz standards, but now also take inspiration from other contemporary string sounds such as @carolineadelaideshaw & @attaccaquartet @sudanarchives @annaphoebemusic and enjoy writing our own material.

We are very happy to share our debut album "She Looks Up at the Trees" with you bringing all these influences together - an exciting mix of jazz, improv and contemporary sound worlds, all with a solid dose of groove.

It is the culmination of about two years of work... there were times when I thought it wasn't going to be finished, it was tough, being a new mum my brain often felt scrambled 🫠

It was a challenge to find time and energy 🥴 but also there were times I had new inspiration to draw from, like my daughter's sheer thrill at seeing trees in our local park...her whole body shaking with excitement. I found joy in the nature I had been taking for granted. Big up #DownhillsPark & #LordshipRec N15!

Somehow, together as a three, we found the time to finish this project, taking in the new experiences in all our lives.

We invited the talented @oletahaffner to compose a new suite of music for us, and bringing her experience in film music , the music and the album's concept started as a depiction of the climate crisis, specifically how it affects the four elements (Elemental Suite - TERRA AER IGNIS AQUA feat. @kayesmensah )

As we worked on more material however, we found ourselves wanting to celebrate nature and planet Earth, moving into a more positive light, celebrating soil, the trees, waves, rain, a bird, the many stunning versions of the sky.

On 'it comes in waves' Miranda reflects on her experience of miscarriages, something both M and Jules went through...sometimes we have to cede control to nature and go with its ebb and flow. Very proud of her to have the courage to perform these words live at our gigs.

Please check out the album on Bandcamp & streaming services! And if you like what you hear, please pass it on!
