Truth be told, I’ve always preferred letting my marble creations do the talking rather than standing in front of a camera. ​(English below 👇) ​Η αλήθεια είναι ότι προτιμώ να μιλάω μέσα από τα μάρμαρά μου, παρά να στέκομαι μπροστά από τον φακό. Όμως, μετά από τόση δημιουργία στην mARTable, ένιωσα πως ήρθε η ώρα να συστηθούμε. ​Είμαι η Όλγα. Μεγάλωσα μέσα στη βιοτεχνία μας (που λειτουργεί από το 1999) και το μάρμαρο ήταν πάντα ο κόσμος μου. Μέσα από τις σπουδές μου στην Πληροφορική και τη Διοίκηση και μέσα από τον σχεδιασμό επιχειρηματικών διαδικασιών και το BPR, «είδα» το μάρμαρο με άλλη ματιά... ​Έτσι, το 2014 γεννήθηκε η mARTable. Μια προσπάθεια να συνδυάσω την παράδοση της οικογένειάς μου με μια πιο σύγχρονη, σχεδιαστική προσέγγιση. ​Ευχαριστώ που είστε εδώ και στηρίζετε αυτό το ταξίδι. Χαίρομαι πολύ που πλέον γνωριζόμαστε και... επίσημα! 👋 ​I’m Olga. I grew up in our family’s marble workshop, so marble has always been my environment. Although my academic background is in Computer Science and Management, it was through studying business process design and simulations that the idea for mARTable was born in 2014. ​My goal was to merge my family’s long-standing craft with a modern approach to design. ​Thank you for being part of this journey. Αυτό το κόκκινο δεν είναι μπογιά. Είναι μάρμαρο. ❤️ That red isn’t paint. It’s marble. ❤️ Ένα τελευταίο γυάλισμα και το κόκκινο παίρνει τη θέση του δίπλα στα υπόλοιπα. ❤️ Μικρά κομμάτια μαρμάρου, δουλεμένα ένα ένα στο χέρι. Το καθένα με το δικό του χρώμα, τα δικά του νερά και αρκετή δουλειά μέχρι να φτάσει εδώ. Εγώ σήμερα κόλλησα με το κόκκινο. Εσύ ποιο θα διάλεγες; Κόκκινο, πράσινο ή μαύρο; One final polish and the red piece joins the others. ❤️ Small marble pieces, shaped and polished by hand one at a time. Each with its own colour, its own veining and plenty of work behind it. Today I can’t take my eyes off the red. Κι όμως, αυτά τα κομμάτια θα μπουν στο γραφείο σου. ✏️ Πρώτα ξεχωριστά πάνω στον πάγκο του εργαστηρίου. Μετά, μια μαρμάρινη μολυβοθήκη έτοιμη για τα μολύβια και τα στυλό σου. Το σχήμα απλό. Η δουλειά πίσω του θέλει ακρίβεια και υπομονή! Δες πώς ενώθηκαν. 🤍 mARTable — χειροποίητο στην Ελλάδα. Before it holds pencils, it holds hours of work. Separate pieces of marble on our workshop bench. Each one cut, shaped and finished before coming together as a pencil holder. Το νερό τρέχει και ο δίσκος κόβει το μάρμαρο. Κάθε κοπή μας φέρνει πιο κοντά στη μορφή που έχουμε σχεδιάσει. Η ακρίβεια είναι μονόδρομος. Και το σωστό μηχάνημα είναι αυτό που μας βοηθά να την πετύχουμε. Water flows as the blade cuts through the marble. Each cut brings us closer to the shape we have planned. Precision is essential. Ξέχασα να κάνω την τρύπα πριν γυαλίσω αυτό το μαρμάρινο τρίγωνο. Ήταν λάθος... Ίσως να με επηρεάσε και η μουσική... Πηγαίνω λοιπόν αργά και σταθερά με το τρυπάνι, μειώνοντας την πίεση όσο πλησιάζω στην πίσω πλευρά, για να μη σπάσει το μάρμαρο ή δημιουργηθεί ρωγμή στο σημείο εξόδου. Ακόμη και μετά από τόσα χρόνια στο εργαστήριο, υπάρχουν στιγμές που μου θυμίζουν να κόβω λίγο ταχύτητα. I forgot to drill the hole before polishing this marble triangle. A small mistake in the order of things, but one that needs extra care. So now, slowly and steadily with the drill, easing the pressure as it reaches the back to avoid chipping or cracking the marble. Πριν από 12 χρόνια, μια μέρα στο τμήμα της παραγωγής του οικογενειακού μας εργαστηρίου, μου ήρθε μια αυθόρμητη σκέψη: θα μπορούσε το μάρμαρο να γίνει κάτι μικρό, κάτι που να φοριέται; Έτσι ξεκίνησε το mARTable. Με δοκιμές, λάθη και πολλές ώρες δουλειάς! Eκείνη η σκέψη άρχισε σιγά σιγά να παίρνει μορφή και ζωή. Σήμερα, ανάμεσα στις δημιουργίες μου, χαίρομαι που την ακολούθησα. Και ακόμη, κάθε καινούργιο κομμάτι με κάνει να θέλω να δοκιμάσω το επόμενο. Twelve years ago, while I was in the production area of our family workshop, a spontaneous thought came to me: could marble become something small, something you could wear? That is how mARTable began. Through trial and error and many hours of work, that thought slowly took shape and came to life. Today, standing among my creations, I’m glad I followed that idea.
