POSTS STORIES REELS

It has been a tough summer. We said goodbye to our grandma, CatDad’s mom, who passed over a month ago, at the age of 96 😿🙀. Olive and Rye both went to visit her multiple times and brought her a lot of joy in her final days 🕊️ we miss her a lot 💔 and have been taking extra good care of CatDad.

We have been seeing an amazing internist @metro_vet Dr. Hutton who is helping the humans guide Rye’s care through Cushing’s Disease and more recently, extremely elevated liver values. She has been taking a new medication for the past few weeks to hopefully bring her numbers down and we just found out this week that her liver values have come down dramatically and is now only “mildly elevated”. Rye’s cortisol levels are also now at the very edge of high normal so we are going to increase her Cushing’s medication just a little more to hopefully put her in “normal” range. It has been stressful but the news this week really helped lift our spirits ❤️‍🩹 feeling the most hopeful we have in a long time.

Rye has become much less food aggressive and demanding. We also managed to find a probiotic (VisBiome) that is helping to stabilize her 👹💩 overall she seems a lot less stressed and out of whack. While her fur isn’t growing back just yet, she has stopped losing weight and even put on a few ounces. This is all amazing news ❤️‍🩹

Now we are working diligently towards another major goal that we can’t wait to share more about 🥹 it will probably be a few months yet but we are incredibly excited to have hope on the horizon. 🌞🍁🍂

Do you have any good news to share, furriends? by @oliveandrye

Humom wrote a mini guide to help people who want to start walking their cats on a leash 🧡 we should have some printed up very soon and we were wondering if anyone would like us to send you a printed version or a digital version when they are ready? 🧡🐾🍁we meet so many people out on the trail who said they wanted to get started or have tried and got stuck 💜💛 so it seemed to make sense to start carrying something we could give to people.🧡 if you want one send us a message with your name and mailing address or email. We can send them anywhere in the world! 💌🧡🐾 if you find it helpful you can always send us a little tip at PayPal.me/kicey 🧑🏻‍🦰💸 to help cover the cost of printing and mailing and keep us in Temptations 🍗

Tiny brave cat under giant golden larch 💛

Fig, my little swamp thing, cannot get enough of a bog boardwalk 🪵🌲🪾 we hadn’t gone on a walk together in weeks and the park we went to first was closed🙀We had a nice walk, exceptionally warm and sunny day. Though right towards the end, Fig wanted to check a twig that ended up getting sap on both her back feet🐾 (and humom’s 🍑) and then on the way home on our own street, Fig got carsick all over Humom 🤮 not every hike can be perfect 😹😹

If anyone else has to manage removing pine sap from pet fur, we use a cooking oil that is non-toxic to cats like olive oil or coconut oil and just massage it into the sappy spot with your fingers. Then use some Dawn or pet-safe shampoo to remove the oil. It is absolutely not fun for anyone but it is very effective! 🌲 this is the 3rd or 4th time we have had to remove sap since we got here less than five months ago. One of the perils of the pine tree state, I suppose! 🌲

Autumn Olive 🫒🫒

For those of you who didn’t catch it on our stories, Olive had a seizure on Sunday. Today we took her to the vet to have her 🩸phenobarbital levels checked. So apparently her level is “toxic” 😩 which is alarming. And so tomorrow we are getting a call from her vet to discuss a new dose. According to the tech we spoke to, this level can cause… seizures! So we have to dose down rather than up.

Her seizure was probably only a minute long and after a half an hour she was seemingly back to normal Olive 👽 otherwise she is her normal sweet weird self. And today after the stress of a vet visit we are having some lovely sunshine and warm weather so we get some time on the catzebo 😎🌞🐈🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🍂🍁 by @oliveandrye

9 YEARS! How has almost a whole decade of this little niblet passed already? 🖤🧡💛 Little Fig, happy ninth adoptaversary. We are so happy we crossed paths and made you a part of our little family. You have left a permanent mark of love on us all, Piglet. Stay weird baby girl. 🖤🧡💛 by @oliveandrye

The Kitchen Goddess has spoken. Making Big Noise should be forbidden. (Apologies for terrible camera work) by @oliveandrye

We had this enchanted forest all to ourselves 🌿🪵✨ pure peace and deep connection to nature.

It hasn’t sunken in completely that we live in this exquisite little paradise and we can visit whenever we want 😻 so much to explore 🍃🌲

Finally got out to take a cat adventure this weekend for the first time since we moved to Maine 🌲🐾🪵 we had gorgeous weather, plenty of twigs, a gentle breeze and humor did a spot of foraging too 🍄(first lobster mushrooms! 🦞) 🌞 most humans there were busy swimming in Sebec Lake and relaxing so we had the woods to ourselves. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful spot nearby. 🌞🪨🍄‍🟫🌲🪾#peakskennystatepark by @oliveandrye

That’s one way to do it. 👽 by @oliveandrye

Hello friends 💚 we are excited to let you know that we all moved to the Central Maine Highlands🙀🙀🙀 and we couldn’t be happier about it. We bought a house on 13 acres with woods and a pond and lots of birds and frogs and deer with plenty of windows to spy on them. 🌲🪵🍃🍄🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈🐦‍⬛🦅🦉🦟🐸🦌

We moved at the very end of May so we are still working on getting everything settled but wanted you to know that the girls are doing great here. We are in black fly country now so going out hiking has been challenging because humom and Fig both are bug magnets 🐾🦟🪰🧲 they swarm and gobble. Currently working on a Fig bug veil DIY project to correct this. by @oliveandrye

It is (the day after) #WorldAsthmaDay 😮‍💨 and we like to share this every year to remind people that cats can and do suffer from asthma just like humans. Olive used to have episodes of coughing due to her asthma brought on by seasonal allergens but this was one of her very last attacks almost 6 years ago. When this first started happening we thought she was trying to get out a very stubborn hairball. It happened a few times a week and slowly escalated to daily and even more than once a day.

It is important to note that coughing can be caused by other things besides asthma and it would require a vet’s diagnosis to know for sure which usually involves an exam🩺 and chest X-ray 🩻 to confirm. Coughing can also happen for spontaneously for no real reason, once in a great while, but if it becomes frequent especially increasingly frequent or for longer periods it is good to get it checked out. Then you can both breathe a bit easier! 😯😮‍💨💨 by @oliveandrye
