One of the simplest ways to support sea turtle conservation is to wear it – and our Limited Edition ORP SeaBlend T-shirt lets you do just that.💚

And with every purchase, you’ll also receive the symbolic adoption of Ugg, a wild hawksbill turtle we’re tracking through our Photo-ID research. 🐢

Along with receiving a digital adoption certificate, you can choose to also get updates on Ugg’s re-sightings for one year. (Wild turtle re-sightings cannot be guaranteed.)

Made with a unique seaweed and carbon-neutral cotton blend, this T-shirt is created with both people and our planet in mind.✨

Want to wear your support in style? Shop with the link in bio!🔗

Meet our new Nesting Season Intern for Seychelles, Jade Moustache! 🇸🇨🐢

Jade recently completed her BSc in Environmental Science at the University of Seychelles, where she developed a strong interest in marine conservation and sea turtle research. Her research project too focused on sea turtle nest translocation at North Island, and explored how the timing of translocation influences hatching success.🤔🥚

But that’s not all, Jade has also completed an 11-month Marine Conservation Training Programme with Big Blue Divers, earning her Divemaster qualification.🤿

Having already taken part in sea turtle patrols and other conservation activities, Jade is excited to build on her experience through nest monitoring and research at ORP.

We’re so excited to have her on the team and can’t wait to follow her journey with us in Seychelles.

Please join us in giving Jade a big turtley warm welcome! 💚

A sub-adult green turtle spotted in Kenya with a moderate case of fibropapillomatosis (FP).

FP is a disease characterised by tumour-like growths that can affect a sea turtle’s skin, shell, and internal organs.

While the scientific community does not understand this disease entirely yet, our research in Kenya has shown that some affected sea turtles can recover spontaneously, while others may not.

The lesions you are seeing on this particular green turtle here are a mixture of older tumours and newer ones, suggesting that this particular individual’s immune system is fighting the virus .🤞

However, a full clinical examination and diagnostic imaging by a sea turtle veterinarian would be needed to better understand its condition. Unfortunately, our team in Kenya does not yet have the capacity to carry out these assessments.

For now, we’ll continue monitoring the area and hope to encounter this individual again. Each sighting can help us learn more about FP and how it affects sea turtles in the wild.

Patient Update: Manjè 🐢💙

Manjè is making great progress! She can now dive to the bottom of the tank and stay underwater for a couple of minutes 💪

Although her posture is still not quite normal, we’ve introduced Targeted External Weight Therapy (TEWT) to help her improve. We’re hopeful she’ll continue making progress and be ready for release soon! 🌊

You can be part of Manjè’s healing journey by adopting her! 💙 Link in our bio.

#NewPublicationAlert: New research on our satellite tracking project is published in Endangered Species Research 🛰🗺

Olive ridley turtles face growing pressures from entanglement in ghost nets, but little is known about where these entanglements may occur or how olive ridleys’ use of the oceans could make them more prone to it.

In this study, we analysed the track results of five of our olive ridley turtles that were clinically treated and released to better understand their movements in the Indian Ocean through statistical movement models.

We found:

🛰 The movements are HIGHLY VARIABLE between individuals, meaning discerning a common pattern among all of them is hard

🛰 They all come from different areas of the Indian Ocean, with only one possibly having reached foraging waters in the Bay of Bengal

🛰 One olive ridley turtle returned to the Maldives after a sojourn in the middle of the Indian Ocean!

These satellite tracks and the analyses we’ve ran help improve our understanding of how olive ridleys in the Indian Ocean use the seascape, which can help us better understand their habitats, the use of these habitats and where they may be getting entangled.

After quite a long halt, we’ve finally had some sea turtle nesting activity here at Raa Atoll 💚🐢

Earlier in September, our first green turtle mama came ashore and attempted to nest, but unfortunately left without laying.

However, she returned the very next day and successfully laid her nest during the day, tucked away in the bushes.🍀

We remained optimistic that she might return to lay another nest, as female sea turtles can lay up to eight nests in a season, usually with around 14 days between each nesting attempt.

Sure enough, she returned a few days later, but once again left without laying.

Then, the very next night, our team received a call from Prakash, one of our wonderful security hosts, about a sea turtle that had come ashore to nest. 🫶🏽

Thanks to Prakash’s quick call, we were able to witness the nesting and collect crucial data. The mama took almost four hours to complete the nesting process, during which our trained team collected nesting data.

👉Our team was able to collect this data under permits granted by the Environmental Regulatory Authority of Maldives, contributing to our ongoing monitoring of sea turtles in Raa Atoll.

Meet Loice, our ORP-Kenya Sea Turtle Monitoring & Research Intern.🇰🇪 🐢

Born and raised in Kakamega County, Western Kenya, Loice grew up far from the ocean. So her connection to the marine environment began while studying Marine Resource Management at the Technical University of Mombasa.

Her interest in sea turtle conservation grew during her first attachment in 2024 with Kwetu Training Centre for Sustainable Development, when she encountered a community working to protect sea turtles.

She then went on to volunteer with Mtwapa Maweni Turtle Conservation, taking part in beach activities, clean-ups, conservation events and community awareness programmes.

Through her second attachment in 2025 with Mariners for Action in Malindi, she continued working with coastal communities on conservation and environmental education.

Now, Loice is taking her experience into the water through our Internship programme and building her skills in underwater sea turtle monitoring and research.🌊

So please join us in welcoming Loice – we’re excited to have her on the team!

Let’s talk about Nadya’s healing journey! 🐢💙

Nadya continues to make encouraging progress and is getting stronger every day. Over the past few days, she has been exercising more consistently, allowing her to dive for longer periods and reach greater depths.

Her increased strength and ability to remain underwater for longer are positive signs of her recovery. 💙

Our veterinary team will continue to monitor her closely and support her throughout her healing journey.

You can be part of her journey by adopting her — just follow the link in our bio.
