It’s a rural area where resources are limited and people like Heather Lawson are often left picking up the pieces. I’ve networked with Heather through rescue throughout the years, and I cannot say enough about the work she does. She is a highly respected local trapper and stray rescuer who shows up again and again when animals have nowhere else to turn. She picks up the pieces where animal welfare agencies don’t in their community. But Heather is drowning. This sweet girl was dumped at a cemetery FULL OF MILK. 💔 And she was only one of three dumped dog calls Heather received that day. Her house is full. Rescues are full. Wardens are overflowing. Heather said something that broke my heart: “I don’t want to trap when I know they have no place to go.” She can get them to safety. She just needs somewhere for them to land. This girl takes food gently, wants to be near people, walks well on leash and showed no aggression toward Heather’s dogs through a gate. Heather will work on vetting/rescue backing if we can find a foster. 📍 LIMA/DAYTON/CINCINNATI/COLUMBUS & OHIO RESCUES: PLEASE STEP UP. And even beyond. A discarded mama dog. You don’t have to save them all. Foster one. Give Heather one open space so she can continue her work and help the next dog who needs her. Please share. Please tag rescues. She is approximately 10 years old, although we cannot confirm her exact age. We were first alerted about her a few weeks ago. At that time, we were unsure whether she was owned or if we would be able to intervene. This week, she was spotted again — and her condition has gotten significantly worse. She has had a large lump/tumor growing for more than two years, and it has now progressed to the point where it is oozing and bleeding. 💔 Her owners have agreed to surrender her so that she can receive the medical attention and treatment she desperately needs. We are incredibly grateful that they are allowing us to step in and help her. We know medical cases like this can be overwhelming. We don’t yet know what her diagnosis will be, how extensive her treatment may be, or what her future will look like. But we do know she deserves a chance. ❤️ She has lived with this growing mass for years. She has endured this for far too long. Repost 🐾 @barry_renee_w 🚨 FREYA HAS ABOUT 16 HOURS LEFT. 🚨 Look at these Videos. She has absolutely no idea. Freya doesn’t know that today is her deadline. She doesn’t know that the quickly growing mass on her little body may be serious. She doesn’t know that the shelter doesn’t have the resources to find out exactly what it is or whether it can be treated. She just knows that the grass feels good. She knows there is a toy to chase. She knows she can run and roll around and be silly and happy when someone gives her the chance to get outside of that kennel. And looking at these pictures tonight, that is what is absolutely breaking my heart. Freya is only 5 years old and 49 pounds. She’s experienced with dogs and kids. She’s heartworm negative. And somewhere on her right side is a rapidly growing mass that needs diagnostics and veterinary care beyond what the shelter can provide. The shelter notes that it may possibly be inoperable. But “possibly” is not an answer. Freya deserves the chance to FIND OUT. She is RESCUE ONLY, which means somebody cannot simply walk into IACS tomorrow and adopt her. We need a rescue willing to commit to her, and that rescue may need a committed foster willing to give this little girl somewhere safe to land while she is evaluated. She currently has $525 pledged toward her rescue and medical care. At 5:00 PM TODAY—Monday, October 5—her deadline arrives. Please don’t look at the words “mass” or “possibly inoperable” and decide her story has already been written. Look at HER. Look at the little girl rolling in the grass. Look at her running with her toy. Look at that happy little dog who has no idea that a clock is ticking somewhere behind her. She is still here. She is still happy. She is still Freya. Need a committed adopter tonight!! HELP! Niko’s last day is TODAY, Sunday 10/4. He must be out of North Central Shelter by 4 PM. He got an extension, but still no one has come for him. Please do not let him die. 💔 Niko #A2290650 is a 2-year-old red Pittie who arrived at the shelter injured, with wounds on his body and a limp. Despite that rough start, he has shown everyone a sweet, playful side. He loves toys, fetch, affection, and belly rubs. He knows “sit,” proudly brings the ball back, and has been social and playful with other dogs. Niko is now Rescue Only after an incident during an “Adventure Buddy Day” away from the shelter. After spending a happy day at the park and picking out toys at Petco, Niko fell deeply asleep in the car on the way back. When he was suddenly reached for, he startled awake and nipped the woman who had taken him out. The woman involved emily_lizbethh is speaking out because she does not believe Niko should die for that moment: “Niko is the sweetest boy. He let me scratch behind his ears, leaned in for love, licked my face, and rolled around in the grass soaking up the day. He was gentle, affectionate, and so full of joy. When he woke up suddenly, I think he thought I was reaching for a toy. I want to be 100% clear as the person involved: this was an accident, not aggression. He was abruptly startled from a deep sleep after an overwhelming day and misread a gesture. Niko spent the entire day showing me his true, loving character. He does not deserve to die because of one split-second mistake.” Niko is hidden in the back, running out of time, and needs an experienced rescue, foster, or adopter who understands dog behavior and will give him time to decompress. Repost from @brits_pits • “DOG REACTIVE.” Two words that could cost Blue & Princess their lives. Both have been labeled “dog reactive.” But there are ZERO notes provided explaining that label. No context. No details about what was observed or under what circumstances. A label like this can make an already difficult situation nearly impossible for shelter dogs. People scroll past. Adopters hesitate. Rescues may not have the resources to take the chance. Their odds are already stacked against them. Blue and Princess are both only 1 year, 11 months old. They have their entire lives ahead of them, yet because of shelter capacity, BOTH WILL BE AT RISK OF EUTHANASIA STARTING 10/06. I’m not saying the label should be ignored. Any dog should be responsibly evaluated, introductions should be handled appropriately, and adopters/fosters should understand exactly what they’re taking on. But these two deserve more than a label with no explanation. They deserve to be SEEN. They deserve someone willing to ask questions. They deserve a chance to show who they are outside of a loud, stressful shelter environment. Please, SHARE BLUE & PRINCESS. Her intake showed bilateral entropion, skin irritation, and abraded and irritated paw pads (as if she had been walking for days on hot pavement 💔) Her intake was 9/14/26, entropion surgery and spay was on 9/21/26, started treatment for upper respiratory infection on 9/25/26. It’s wonderful the entropion and spay were done, but her little body is taking it hard.
