Now, nine large dogs are being taken into custody as part of an animal control seizure connected to an ICE deportation case in Charleston County. We need to make room for them, and that means finding temporary foster homes for 15 dogs already in our care TODAY. We know asking you to bring home a dog on short notice is a big ask. But if you’ve ever looked around your house and thought, What’s one more dog? …we might have a pretty important answer for you. ❤️ Here’s the good news: You don’t have to provide everything! Pet Helpers supplies the food, crate, toys, necessary supplies, medications as needed, and support. You provide a safe place, some patience, and a little love while a dog waits for their next chapter. Jake and another dog, Munchi, were living with their owner, who had lost his home and was staying in his car or motels. Imagine the stress and uncertainty they were all experiencing. No stable home. No normal routine. Just trying to survive each day. 💔 Then something happened. Jake and Munchi got into a fight. Their owner was bitten while they were fighting, but he couldn’t tell which dog had bitten him. Both dogs were taken to OC Animal Care for quarantine. And now Jake is facing euthanasia. 💔 How is this fair? Dogs sometimes fight. We don’t know what triggered this fight, what happened between them, or whether the situation could have been prevented. We do know that their lives had been turned upside down. Dogs feel stress. They experience anxiety and fear. They can sense when their world is falling apart. And yet, Jake may lose his life over an incident whose circumstances remain unclear. One incident should not define his entire life. Jake is only 2 years old. He has so much life ahead of him, but he may never get the chance to experience a stable, loving home again. He didn’t choose to become homeless. He didn’t choose to end up at a shelter. Police described him as friendly and easygoing. Shelter staff found him welcoming, cooperative, and happy to be around. Even in a crowded, stressful environment, #Gideon handled himself with grace, walking calmly past barking dogs and greeting people with the warm spirit that seems to come naturally to him. And every day, he waits. He waits in a small pop-up crate with a wagging tail, hopeful eyes, and the same loving heart he arrived with.
