Dayo Adedayo wins 2026 Africa’s Best Tourism Photographer Award! A Happy Monday morning that starts with some great news! Thanks to all of you that responded to my humble call and voted to support my friend, foremost Nigerian photographer and storyteller, Dayo Adedayo, who visited me in Wasimi just over a week ago. Last night in London, with the help of your votes, he won the Award for Africa’s Beat Tourism Photographer for 2026. It is a reminder that when we come together in a united Front, with the exceptionally gifted persons that our country continues to breed organically in all spheres of life, Nigeria can become the greatest country on earth within a very short period of time. The light of another Nigerian Super Star has just been added to the expanding constellation! Congratulations Dayo. In the picture taken inside the new ‘Bashir Adewale Adeniyi Gymnasium’ in SOCA last week, Dayo is the bearded genius standing! I am sitting. Segun Odegbami by @olusegunodegbami
On ‘90 mins with Mathematical’ - inspiration and aspiration in a package - this weekend! Earlier this week, two massive things happened in the life of Segun Odegbami. The Editorial Board of Vanguard newspapers, one of the most respected national publications in Nigeria, honoured him with the 2026 ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’. The good news was delivered in a letter that the honoree describes as ‘overflowing with love’ in his remark to the delegation. Two days after that, there was a historic meeting of three great personalities in the world of Art and Sport - Photographer and Storyteller, Dayo Adedayo; Film maker and Cinematographer, Tuñde Kelani; and ‘Your’s Truly’. They came together during the working visit of Dayo to document the Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy. The events of the day were captured in words and pictures put together by Dayo within two hours of our parting. Tunde Kelani describes Dayo’s report as ‘simply the work of a genius’. On ‘90 Mins with Mathematical’ this Saturday, October 24, the letter and the report, both special tributes, will be delivered in an oration to the public. Join the MGP, Maxwell Lawrence, and Mathematical from 7:30 am on Eagle7 Sports Radio 103.7FM Abeokuta. Earlier today… Blessed by Uncle Sam Amuka! Every day comes with its own package of surprises in my life. Today is very special. You may have to wait, however, for the gist in my syndicated column in the Vanguard this weekend. For now, join me to celebrate. At noon today, from the blue, emissaries from Vanguard Newspaper visited me and presented me with a gift straight from Heaven. One of the most respected national publications whose publisher is one of the most respected, accomplished and distinguished Nigerians that I have ever met in my life, Uncle Sam Amuka, sent ‘angels’ with good tidings and a celestial gift to me. The Editorial Board of the national newspaper, led by the Deputy Editor, Adekunle Adekoya, came to present me with a letter conferring on me the most prestigious Vanguard ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’. The actual ceremony comes up during the ‘Vanguard Personality of the Year’ event in Lagos on January 8, 2027. It was a very emotional morning for me - a mixture of disbelief, sincere appreciation and utmost humility In the picture, from the left are: Tony Ubani, Deputy, Group Sports Editor; Your’s Truly, trainee reporter; Prince Osuagwu, member of the Editorial board; and Adekunle Adekoya, Deputy Group Editor. ‘Buka T’ continues the work of Lee Evans’. This is for your Sunday delight. ‘Buka T’ is the nickname of a very well-known, hardworking, and very accomplished Coach in the firmament of Nigerian Track and Field. He was a former national Decathlete, former Police Officer, and the coach that discovered and trained Tobi Amusan during her formative years in athletics in Ijebu Ode. He has nurtured many other athletes to national and international prominence. Last month, ‘Buka T’ left a very lucrative job as a coach in a regular secondary school in Port Harcourt to take up residency in Wasimi Orile as Director of the Track and Field academy in the Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy, SOCA. He takes over the role introduced by legendary African/American Double Olympic Gold medalist, World Champion and multiple World record holder, Lee Edward Evans. Lee served in that capacity for two years, before he was snatched away by death some three years ago. Last month, ‘Buka T’ joined SOCA to fulfill his passion for developing athletes and his dream to continue Lee Evans’ mission to produce the next generation of Nigeria’s best international sprinters and jumpers from a specialized sports secondary school in Nigeria. He has embarked on that journey with truly remarkable strides: identifying and selecting his wards; constructing and fabricating indigenous facilities on the campus; designing special programs for the different age groups and classes; weekly training on the standard facilities for his selected boys and girls at the MKO Abiola International Sports Arena. Last night, I went to see the work he has been supervising in the construction of a unique 200-meters grass track aesthetically embedded within the school environment. It will be a beauty to behold when completed in the next few months. The ‘Adewale Bashir Adeniyi Gymnasium’ is already being put to good use by students in the senior classes only! In the picture is ‘Buka T’, alias Ayodele Solaja, against the background of the setting sun yesterday, standing between the new grass tracks under construction inside SOCA! Anatomy of State Football Associations - on ‘90 mins with mathematical’ State Football Associations are a very important component of the general architecture of Nigerian football. Their status and roles in football development have become the central part of the ongoing crisis and reforms. Who are they? What do they do? Who are their constituent members? What are their primary and secondary functions? On ‘90 minutes with Mathematical7’, this weekend, we look at the State FAs through the eyes and experiences of a current Chairmen, a shining light of that constituency, an award-winning administrator of football development in Edo State, Dr. Fred Newton Erhunmunswe, a barrister and Chairman of Edo State Football Association. Plus….wait for it… the man Fred succeeded as FA Chairman in Edo State, who he credits for guidance and a lot of what he was able to learn about the FA and achieve - Dr. Franklyn Ilaboya! He will be joining us too. The public is in for a treat - everything to know about State Football Associations, the body at the heart of the proposed reforms in Nigerian football! It is TF’s birthday! I am in Ibadan. Today is the anniversary of the day of the birth of TF. How time flies. It is hard to think back and ‘locate’ where the years have gone since we met half a Century ago in Ibadan. Now, ‘Sarki’, as I fondly call him for reasons best kept amongst friends, is leaving me far behind and knocking ‘dangerously’ on the door of octogenarianism. So, it is happening in his beautiful home in Ibadan this afternoon, as a few friends congregate to celebrate with him and pay the great man a little tribute. By the way, TF is Tunde Fagbenle, the prolific writer, publisher, Public relations ‘Guru’, entrepreneur, and foremost social/political Commentator and activist. On behalf of all the ‘boys’, this is wishing him a great life..still ahead. The picture captures a few of the ‘boys’. From right of picture: Dr. Babayomi Taiwo, Yomi Layinka, Ambassador Yemi Farounbi, the Celebrant, Tuñde Fagbenle, Gbenga Adebusuyi, Hon. Taiwo Akeju, Dejo Olugbodi, and Yours Truly. From Warri, back to my Roots. Believe it or not, I am in Jos. The last time I visited Jos was some 10 years ago. Since then, I have not been to the town where the foundation of my life was laid, where I spent the first 17 years…..until this morning. I landed in ‘Tin City’ a few hours ago. Courtesy of Prof. Ayo Omotayo, the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, I have been invited to share a little of my humble experiences in ‘Sport as an enabler of the Orange Economy’ with participants of the Senior Executives Course 48, 2026, in Kuru. I have not been this excited about visiting Jos for a long time. I am hoping that it is true that the ‘killings’ around the Plateau are subsiding, and that the environment is fast regaining its old reputation of being the best place on the planet to live; a trough on the Plateau ringed by mountainous rocks; the land with the best, all-year-round cool weather; surroundings of bewildering rock formations; deep lakes formed from abandoned tin and columbite mines; rich l, exotic and beautiful fauna and flora; and a melting pot of settlers from all over Nigeria. The Odegbami family arrived in Jos in 1939. My numerous cousins still live there to this day! I am glad to be back. I shall find some time to visit my old schools, St. Theresa’s Boys’ school (primary) and St. Murumba College, the school that has produced more players for the senior national team of Nigeria, the Eagles, than any other school in Nigeria’s entire history! In the picture: standing beside me in the suit, is a former DIG, Leye Oyebade, one of those that facilitated this my return to my roots! I shall report my experience on this trip, as well as that of yesterday in Warri, in my various platforms this weekend! Watch out! Segun Odegbami by @olusegunodegbami
Xray of FIFA’s visit to Nigeria. The delegation from FIFA and CAF came and left Nigeria earlier this week at the invitation of the NFF, for an assessment of the challenging issues in Nigerian football administration that require FIFA’s intervention. They held meetings with different groups and stakeholders. Since their departure, no one has been able to put together a summary of what transpired within all the groups. On ‘90 mins with Mathematical’ this Saturday morning, we shall attempt to connect with some stakeholders that participated in the discussions for their views on what transpired, and what, in their thinking, Nigerians should expect following the meeting. What happened during the sessions? What were the issues discussed? What is the impression the delegation left behind? Is their visit and their reactions during the sessions reassuring? What is likely to happen next? The MGP, Maxwell Lawrence joins me to peer into all that happened in Abuja, on Eagle7 Sports Radio, 103.7 FM, Abeokuta, from 7:30 AM of Saturday, September 19, 2026. Tune in terrestrial on radio if you are in the Abeokuta environ. Or click on https://eagle7fm.com/ when it is time and be connected. Meeting with FIFA - foto no dey lie! What a day today has being. The meeting with members of the FIFA and CAF delegation went pretty well. I was not surprised at the conviviality of it all. Providence has a hand in the way things have been coming together like a joy saw puzzle. Members of the Nigerian football fraternity were brought together today in a friendly spirit like old friends. They discussed without any rancor during the session that I attended. It went like a breeze. The FIFA delegation, in their few remarks during the conversation, demonstrated that they know the main issues with Nigerian football pretty well. The meetings have added to their knowledge and would enrich their report to FIFA. They, obviously, were very well briefed. At the end of the 3-hr meeting the feeling I left with was good. This particular FIFA’s intervention is a blessing, a necessary step to take in order to enforce any reforms that will come soon. Reforms are coming, with or without a Normalization Committee. It was also clear that everyone is on the same page as to the few key issues that need immediate attention first. It is also clear that only FIFA can provide the instrument to enforce any final decisions. There shall be likely compromises by all the parties , every one giving up a little and taking a little! Mission to Abuja accomplished, i could not wait to ‘wash’ the good feelings everyone seemed to leave with. I invited Mitchel Obi. To join me for my regular sumptuous Lunch at Akisco’s Restaurant downtown Abuja. It was typical Gboko service - a variety of 6 different local soups served with fresh river fish and charcoal-smoked local chicken laced with spices mostly indigenous to Benue State. The taste is out of this world. Between Mitchel and I, we sat and had a feast. This picture is NOT to whet your appetite but to show you that ‘Foto no dey lie’. Segun Odegbami by @olusegunodegbami
FIFA are coming to town! On Monday, September 14, 2026, a FIFA delegation will be in Nigeria at the invitation of the Nigeria Football Association to consult with football stakeholders and conduct an assessment of the prevailing situation of things at the Nigeria Football Federation/Association. Nigeria may be the most visited country by FIFA on the issue of crisis during election in the history of the world! Why? Why does the mention of FIFA conjure fear in Nigeria? What is the actual role of FIFA in the internal affairs of its member? Is a Normalization Committee imminent in this particular case with no Executive Committee in place? What should Nigerians expect from this FIFA-intervention? On ‘90 mins with Mathematical’ we shall attempt to answer these and other questions. Join ‘the MGP’, Maxwell Lawrence as he invites the public to an open conversation on the subject in the morning on Eagle7 Sports Radio, 103.7 FM, Abeokuta, from 7:30 AM of Saturday, September 12, 2026. Or click on https://eagle7fm.com/ when it is time and be connected. Olusegun Odegbami, MON, OLY, AFNIIA, FNIS, GS Ambassador. by @olusegunodegbami
Happening now! The congregation of hundreds of Egba sons and daughters, under the auspices of Egba National Association from 20 chapters of the organisation in the USA and Canada, is meeting in Nigeria for celebrations marking the 10th Biennial Convention holding in their ancestral home in Abeokuta for the first time. It is a feeling of a totally different kind to be amongst your kith and kin, some of the crème de La crème of Egbaland at home and abroad, rekindling feelings and relationships amongst some of their own. For the past two hours, I have been thoroughly humbled by the experience, listening to the richest renditions of the Egba Yoruba dialect, in poetry recitals, music and citations! All the surviving kings of Egbaland are present representing the best and some of the most sophisticated traditions and culture in the world. With the setting here, this night has only just begun. If you are an Egba, and you are not here, you are definitely missing an experience! Chief Olusegun Odegbami, Tayese Ago Oko, Oke ona Egba. by @olusegunodegbami
